Way.

FFIV: good characters and GREAT music, coupled with a smooth battle system and a "just ok" plot, all stuffed into an on-rails experience with little exploration, even less difficulty/strategy/planning, and no customization or party-building at all.  Everything is decided for the player and every playthrough is identical.

FFIV The After Years: good characters and great music, coupled with a smooth battle system and a MUCH more intelligent plot and handling of characters, tons of party building and potential for customization, as well as just the right amount difficulty to keep you playing with the myriad of cool characters you can use.  Tons of replay potential.

Those are just the facts.  I know which one I'd sooner go back to.

Really loving the Memoria podcasts, guys!

But have to say: Final Fantasy X-2 is one of my Top 5 FFs.  It sounds like some of the hosts need to go back to that one.  Amazing combat, superlative job system, great soundtrack and visuals, and a plot that actually does get pretty good toward the back half.

You guys were also pretty unfair toward The After Years which, from an objective standpoint, was easily superior to IV as an RPG.  Come at me.

You really don't think Pippin heard all about Bilbo's adventures while living in the Shire??  Bilbo probably told that story hundreds of times.  Everyone in the Shire could have made that joke.

Ok, it all makes sense now.  Good on you.

I feel that Vince Guaraldi’s "A Charlie Brown Christmas" soundtrack always deserves a shout out whenever holiday music is mentioned.

Really didn't think I would be posting in this thread, but randomly saw the name "Vince Guaraldi" and now have to, once again, tell Frosty that he's a good person with excellent taste.

My Vince Guaraldi station is my most played Pandora station, all year 'round.

the last two Star Trek movies were some of the worst films I've seen

You must not watch many movies.

I'm sure there's a reason Tarantino's films are popular, but I certainly don't know what it could be.

Anyone else try the Lost Sphear demo?  Impressions?

I'll just go ahead and say that I was surprised at how good it was.  Not that it was omg so good, but that it was surprisingly good, while I expected bland nonsense.  Needs English voices, of course, and the animation could use some work.  Also, movement is kinda slow.  But other than that, I was surprised at how interesting the world and story felt (being obviously on the side of evil, at least for the run of the demo). The "good guys" that you're fighting not all really feeling that "good", either, was interesting.  I legit wanted to know more.

The music is superlative.  Loved every tune, it was right up there with the best of Gust etc.

And, of course, the battle system: surprisingly fun and varied!  The one boss fight feels absurdly difficult, even though I did beat it on my first try.  I'm curious if that's what we can expect from all bosses in this game.

First of all, you'd need an antiVIRAL. *pushes up glasses*

Second of all, I have no clue.  I just put it on 80% zoom for a week and then this Monday when I logged back in, everything was tiny, so I went back to normal zoom and it's all back to normal.

It boils down to whether or not the idea of superb turn-based combat and character creation trips your trigger and if that is the case then don't hesitate.

That sounds like EXACTLY my kind of game.

My limited experience with EO tells me that it's pretty good about giving the player creative ways to heal with other classes.  But obviously if you skip the traditional "Healer", then it's going to be more difficult, but you do at least get more firepower to try and tip the scales.

Once I wrapped my head around some of the mechanics in Untold, I was surprised how often I could heal through seemingly random actions, especially against mobs.  The Highlander class had some neat skills in this regard.

I don't understand how he got into your attic in the first place if he can't get out

one time my cat climbed under the floor boards in my bathroom and we had to cut her out.

tl;dr animals r dumb

That just doesn't seem possible.  If there is a way in, there's a way out.
