it is going to take a monumental effort.

There is no video game in the last 10 years whose soundtrack is as "monumental" as Nier Automata's.  That's the point.  To me this was similar to something like HORIZON ZERO DAWN (on topic) beating Persona 5 over on horizonzerodawn.com's GOTY Awards.  It was a sham.

There's "Great", and then there's "Once In A Lifetime", and it is always a shame when the latter is overlooked.
As much as I love Automata, I still prefer the 1st Nier's soundtrack.

Can't argue with this.

P5 was all style, no substance, much like every other Persona (still bitter on that TMS thing; "Looks great. Fantastic even. But where's the crossover?"), while XBC2 really didn't capture that feeling of running up and down on the back of a giant that XBC had (also undocked modo; like staring into the abyss of a college student's early 3D software portfolio). BotW was probably its strongest competitor in terms of graphics last year.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

So you would rather give an award to something that would just be replaced by the next "big" Marvel summer movie next year, rather then a classic that will still be remembered probably after we are dead and gone?

Last I checked, they don't stop selling Movies just because a sequel is out, so no, I don't think so. Because that scenario does not exist. Infinity Wars would be a continuation, not a replacement. Heck, it's not even guaranteed to be good, I'm simply going with the metaphor. Overall, I'm just more concerned about watchability/enjoyment factor of a piece of entertainment than I am its percieved cultural influences, especially since said influences usually require way more than a year to be said with any amount of certainty.

But again, I think I still don't get what the point of awards are supposed to be. I thought it was just a bunch of people who frequently engage with certain subsections of entertainment to gush over the things that came out this year that they liked the most and they felt resonated with them for various reasons, which were then broken down into categories.

Apparently some people see more in it than that, and I just don't get why.

That's certainly true of the expansion where everyone was just too cold.

when they make the sequel, they really should overhaul the inventory system, it was the only glaring problem with this game. Some more enemy variety would be nice too.

Ugh, the inventory. So sick of running out of resource space and having to constantly drop/sell stuff.

I think the biggest issue with the inventory was the extreme amount of parts you obtain that had 1 use and never needed to be used again. They should have their own category that doesn't overlap the materials or items. It'd be nice to say the least.
