I don't mind the new Aether mode, but the rewards are kind of pointless since they're sort of circular. Winning in Aether mode gives you rewards that allow you to build your keep better so you can... win more at Aether mode. Unless you want more Grand Hero Battle units, of course, though I'm not especially interested in them.

So far I've had 4 defense matches in Aether Emblem, and four losses.... At least one of the matches ended with a player ragequitting on me because he walked into a trap which ended with one unit picked off and nobody left to deal with my +5 TA Etrurian Scum (and yet the game lists this as a 'Failure'; kinda bullshit if you ask me), but the other three were complete losses. Turns out I have no way to deal with bullshit like Aversa, Veronica or +10 Reinhardts yet (or the AI being incredibly abusable).

Not terribly sure about this mode to be honest. Its got some great elements to it like managing your base and seeing other peoples' teams and strategies, but on the same token, this mode is pretty fucking ruthless (in both resource consumption and in player objectives; especially with crap like ragequits penalizing the Defender) and heavily favors whales, much like Arena/AA are. That failures themselves add up to further disparities between players who are lucky/wealthy enough to coast through Lyft will end up with stronger bases compared to players who can't keep up, invest poorly or were just born under an unlucky star.

Meanwhile, no sign of the next Calendar yet, but given that we're sneaking up on Book 3, I suspect they're going to be withholding it for awhile. Not that there are many surprises these days given how formulaic the monthly schedule has been (Tap Battles are constant, monthly events come either in ridged order (+_+, GCN, VG) or are date based (Legendaries), and banner specific events are tied to banners (FB, GHeBs, etc)), its mostly just a question of whether we see another Seasonal or Draw Pool Banner and what kind of Bait Banners, Refines and Quest Sets show up.

It amuses me that Boost skills were introduced with the Gaiden Banners (thanks Boey) and only lasted a month before the HP inflating Infernal was introduced to start devaluing them. Even if you were to merge them and 4th tier them (ala Fortress Def/Res 3), they'd still be garbage since only a handful of units can even crack the 60 HP barrier (I guess I could staple Water Boost onto Arden now that he's no longer merged capped; 82 HP with merges, Summoner Support, a blessing, HP+5, a forged replacement to Brave Sword+, and not including anything map specific like Bonus Unit status which could potentially put him at 92 HP; I think I'll wait for an Earth Boost seal before doing all of that so that Arden could have 61 Def (before buffs) instead).

And the big problem with Bartre's refine is that doing anything beyond Fury was going to lead to Axe of Virility powercreeping Basilikos (they're already pretty similar with Basik's -1 Cooldown and L&D 3 versus Prozaxe's Anti-Armor and Fury 3), which wouldn't have sit well with FE 7 fans (not that Basilikos was that good to begin with, but that's neither here nor there). The other problem is that its hard to justify spending big on him when I have Frederick who has a roughly better statline to begin with (+5 HP, +1 Atk and 2 Move to +3 Def, +1 Res and 3 Move; and hell, Axe of Virility would be better on Frederick anyways since the extra Def gives him more room to not die from a love tap after Fury 6 bleeds his HP dry).
Single-Player RPGs / Realms Beyond; turn-based party CRPG w/ 3.5e D&D rules [Kickstarter]

There's an upcoming RPG I'm pretty excited about called Realms Beyond: Ashes of the Fallen.  Players can create / control a party of up to 6 characters.  It turn-based tactical combat on a hex grid and using the Open Game License (i.e., 3.5e D&D rules).   They're also releasing the game with the editor / toolset so it will hopefully have some good user created mods eventually.

It's currently on Kickstarter at around 93% of the goal with just under 5 days to go.

I finished Dances of Deception a couple of days ago and now look forward to reading Symphony of Fates to see how Kaiya's harrowing saga ends before heading into Masters of Deception (which takes place between books 1 and 2 and stars a couple of the cooler side characters in Kaiya's story).  Man, those last few chapters of Dances of Deception were INTENSE!  Whew!  And it looks like book 4 will be an absolute barnburner.  I'm not even sure how I randomly stumbled onto this series, but I am so glad I did.

Why do I have a feeling that Square Enix in terms of managements is a total dumpster fire?  Seriously, they can't seem to stay on schedule for any of their projects.
To some extent the problem is announcing things LONG before they are ready to be announced (e.g., if I recall correctly, the director for the FF7 Remake wasn't even aware he was directing it till after it was announced). The inability to get anything done in a reasonable time just compounds the problem. I feel like it might be that they have perfectionist directors that are obsessed with maxing out the graphics so high that it takes 3x as long to get anything done than if went with a slightly lower or more stylized graphics, but that is entirely speculation.
A couple of days ago, I saw the film Bohemian Rhapsody in my local recliner theater.  I had a great time watching it.  Rami Malek's performance as Freddie Mercury was out of this world.  I also loved that the film was not a heavy-handed documentary but rather a rollicking rock opera.  It took some creative liberties, to be sure, but what movie doesn't?  This was meant to be a rock opera film, not a heavy handed thesis level documentary.  Basically, the reason I liked it is the reason many critics hated it.  I often felt that exhilaration I felt either seeing live bands or performing on stage myself, and that feeling is not easy to replicate in a movie (which is a more passive experience to me.)  And learning that Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara (a Parsi whose parents were from Gujarat, India) makes him even cooler!  One of the greatest rock stars to ever walk this Earth was essentially my ethnicity.  Boss!

Queen is simply one of the greatest bands to ever walk this Earth.  Forget about Freddie's multi-octave vocal range for a second.  Brian May is easily one of the finest guitarists alive.  Roger Taylor is an incredibly dynamic drummer.  And John Deacon is one of the most underrated bassists out there.  If you take the bass out of any Queen song, it's trash.  Dude has the groove, the pocket, and the chops.

I could've lived without a Noctis DLC (I mean ... didn't we just play the whole game as Noctis?). But I was very hopeful for Episodes Aranea & Lunafreya. Sigh...

Hopefully the Ardyn expansion makes for a decent prequel.

I honestly enjoyed this game a great deal.

ATK/DEF Bond is great, Gale Dance is niche, and Water Boost is garbage. The boost skills were already niche when they were first released, but powercreeped skills that are nearly as powerful as Boosts and stupidly inflated HP values in PvE content has made them completely useless. They have to change boost skills to at least +8 of a stat to make them worth using again (also lower the HP requirement to just more than opponent's HP rather than having +3 on them).

BST powercreep on the new banner is stupid, but I guess not unexpected at this point. At least they had the sense to restrict Null Followup to Infantry, which finally gives them something unique and is actually useful (Well, Infantry Pulse/Rush can be good, but they need really specific setups to work well).

Saber's refine is pretty interesting, but I'm kinda disappointed in the Elibe refines (go figure the 5* exclusives keep getting the cool ones). To be fair they're mostly boring-but-practical refines. Shanna's is a tried and true formula, Florina's kinda forces her into melee range so I guess people who gave her DC/Berkut's Lance will be sticking to that, but I think Bartre's is a waste. He's usually only going to get use out of two of the stats on Fury (unless you +SPD him, but even if you stack on it his SPD is average at best), and it cuts into his HP if you use him for Panic Ploy. I guess it'll give him 1 more Atk than the Mt refine so it has that. He would've much preferred an ATK/DEF Bond/Solo effect I think. Killing effect would've worked too, or hell, even Heavy Blade.

But the important news is Aether Raids. So far I like it, although I gotta say I would've preferred they just applied these changes to Arena itself since now the two modes are kinda redundant, but I guess that's about half the game now. Even though you have to go through the annoying task to destroying the two resources on the enemy's side to get maxed out points (via Aether regeneration), it's really not that bad because you get to set up 5 teams in advance and just pick the one you want to attack with. Obvious teams to make would include anti horse-emblem (complete with a Green Raventome to double check LynHardt), Armorslayers and Wing Clippers (though that last one's not so important since buildings really get in the way foe them in this mode). As a side effect it seems like it's nearly impossible to not get losses on your defense at some point, but I guess we'll see.

Most fun part is the defense building though. Naturally, I set out to create the most annoying defense I could possibly muster.

The tome dancer is important, gotta make her go last after all. I just gotta unlock my fifth slot so I can put in Brave Lyn.

Also they need to make it so people can fight their friend lists. How else are we going to out-annoy each other?
