Game Journals / Re: A Game Journal Reborn

I just finished Shadows of Adam today.

Overall, an OK JRPG. It's got heart and is technically sound, but it's rough around the edge in some places.
It's a wannabe clone of Chrono Trigger and it does it pretty well.

The graphics are nothing to write home about but it's stylistically correct throughout the entire game.
The music is pretty good and whoever composed it really went for that Chrono Trigger vibe.
It's sad that, while competent, the story just never engages you.

One complaint I have is that there is such as thing as too many dungeon puzzles in an RPG... or perhaps it's that it's always the same 3 types of puzzle that they repeat over and over in that game.

Also, if anyone thinks of playing it: when asked, DON'T TAKE THE RING.

Somehow we all missed Today's Menu for Emiya Family

Ep.1 is out and ep.2 will be out Feb1 then more every month.
This is the good kind of Type-Moon.
That opening is so good too.

Emiya would totally ask the grail for a cooking show.

Yakitate Japan (28-episode peacock):   I guess this captures my sentiments.

Yeah, I just finished re-watching it myself and I remembered something important while doing so: the last season is pretty meh.
Like, if around episode 50 you start thinking it's not as good, it won't get better.
It should have stopped at the Monaco arc to end on a high note.

Pop Team Epic looks too silly to comprehend. I'll be laughing at it from a safe distance, as I did with Nichijou/Ordinary Life.

Trying to decide on an anime to watch. My internet's been iffy lately, so I think I'll go through my DVD/Blu-Ray collection.

Should I watch:

Black Lagoon?
Cowboy Bebop (Rewatch)?
Trigun: Badlands Rumble?
Banner of the Stars?
Mazinkaizer (Rewatch)?
Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories (Rewatch)?

Figured I'd ask, since I'm really in the mood for fast-paced Action and/Or Sci-Fi awesomeness...and I got a lot in both categories...

Banner of the Stars is very very slow. I'd wait until you want something void of action.
Don't know Redline... so I guess my answer would be Black Lagoon.

With that list you give, it feels like Zegapain would fit well.

On the plus side, I'm sure they will reconsider using XSEED next time instead of NISA.

^Shut up. Bravely Default has the best battle system in a turn-based game I've ever played, hands down.

While unconventional, I'm giving that win to Ar Tonelico 2.

Hell, I'm even going to edit an explanation here.
AT2 has a Dark Souls battle system where even if you are facing an impossible challenge due to a difference in stat, if you have the skills, you can turn everything around and win.
(I know, sorry for 'dark souling' but it's the best representation of this)

I know you guys are joking around, but damn...I liked both Star Ocean 4 and Bravely Default. Kinda weird for me to see people shooing others away from them, especially when it's already clear that they showed enough interest to buy them in the first place. At some point, you just gotta try to get some value outta what you bought...and that's if he winds up sharing your opinions of them.

How did you not cringe to death watching THIS ?

Star Ocean IV? Are you just checking to see if anyone here hates you?

I voted for it.
I mean, if he wants to play it, he should do it before anything else on that list because it will seem even shittier after playing a good game.

Marle having a bow that makes her not useless in the endgame on the DS version is nice though.

So I finally got to watching Pop Team Epic episode 1.
I think I liked it. It's weird...

Watch episode 1 to see if you like it. There's a couple of RPG jokes in episode 1.

If you need that extra nudge:
Spoiler: show

What? More?
Spoiler: show

EDIT: Interesting... In the French segment, one of the VA is Yugo from Wakfu (

Wearing a shirt Vaan?
Maybe they can finally fix Vaan's abs.

Erm, Squeenix already fixed them in the baseline HD edition.

Gonna be some awesome costume mods

Actual skirt Ashe?
Wearing a shirt Vaan?

And yet another title change.
I should technically keep the "Switch" part... but I dunno, I feel like leaving the same item for 2 years isn't fair.

So, about Yakitate Japan...
I've told like a couple of people to watch it in the last year or so but it's kind of fuzzy in my mind because the manga and anime were a long time ago for me.
Just to make sure I'm not leading people astray I've just started re-watching the anime.

I'm at ep.15 and completely hooked on it.
It's just so damn good.

It really was a genre defining anime. You can see how it settled many future 'tropes' of shonen battle cooking.
Also, the puns and just pantastic.

EDIT: I totally forgot about the nun. Man, she's awesome.
EDITER: Oh my...

Food Wars! (season finished):  I've enjoyed the series up to this point;  I think the idea of translating the shounen formula into a cooking anime works well.  However, the "arch-antagonist who wants to take over the world" trope isn't one they should have attempted.  It doesn't fit naturally into a cooking show, unless you're willing to crank it up to Kill-la-Kill or JoJo levels of absurdity.   This series has picked a bad time to start taking itself seriously.

You may want to look up "Yakitate Japan".
