Beyond the Beyond also had memorable character designs, but not in a good way, all the characters looking as though they had Down syndrome, and I didn't care for Final Fantasy Tactics' noseless designs, which really clashed with the serious nature of the game. Typically, I'm not a stickler for character art, but things like those really stuck out for me. So on the whole, memorable character designs for me tend to be far more negative than positive.

Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth - Beat the Second Stratum boss, got access to master classes, and am in the third now. The guild hall music is freaking amazing.

Resonance of Fate - Farming for green hexes so I can link terminals to the next story area and hopefully stand a chance against its boss.

I gave up posting on message boards for Lent.

Anyway, I beat Salt and Sanctuary during that time, and despite dying more often due to falls and regular enemies than to bosses (most of which, including the last, I beat on my first try), not to mention the minimalist music and narrative presentation, I definitely found it more enjoyable than the Souls games.

Slowly making my way through Etrian Odyssey V, and I've put Resonance of Fate on hold for a while.

There are other RPGs with visible encounters that do them somewhat poorly, like Grandia and the SaGa games, where enemies charge you regardless of strength.

The soundtrack felt somewhat phoned-in, as for me has been the case with most Western RPGs, but it was definitely my favorite title of the last year.

I beat Super Mario Odyssey. Got it instead of Breath of a Wild when ordering a Switch over the phone (since GameStop's site was giving me trouble) due to a fuck-up on their part, but I'm definitely glad I got to play it, and Zelda will be my next Switch game.

I also finally got through Chapter 4 in Resonance of Fate, and only needed to recover the statue's health once with 50,000 Rubies, barely scraping through the boss battle at the end of the Forest of Idols.

I think any text should be skippable as well, particularly for players such as I who would rather read the dialogue than listen to every voiced line completely.

Well, for me, analog stick if you can move diagonally, but for just four directions, the d-pad is fine.

Unnatural battle dialogue. Even popular RPGs have it. Like, who the hell shouts "No good!" when defending an attack? (Vexen in the Kingdom Hearts games)

One of the biggest offenders in my mind is Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete where they shout things like "Ferocious wind!" and "Mega magic flame!" That's actually *worse* than shouting the names of attacks.

The shouting of attack names in Tales of Symphonia was at least bearable since characters tended to preface it with something like "Are you okay?" and "Don't overdo it."

One of few games that did battle dialogue right in my mind was Final Fantasy X, which was very subdued in that regard, and they said things before defeating foes like "See ya!", "It's over." or "Farewell!" before offing foes.

I enjoyed Suikoden II myself, aside from the somewhat subpar translation with endless name inconsistencies.

I beat Dragon Age: Inquisition today. Definitely enjoyed it, and the endgame wasn't terribly drawn-out.

Dragon Age: Inquisition - I'm in the Fade Rift world or wherever, and think I might be getting near the end.

Etrian Odyssey V - On the fourth floor of the First Stratum, and haven't had many problems with healing and such.

Kingdom Hearts Union X - I did most of the available Proud Mode missions, and got my character to Level 300 thanks to Raid Bosses.

Resonance of Fate - Stuck on Chapter 4, raising money so I can use the restart option with the health of the statue I have to escort to the end of a dungeon fully restored at least twice, since I tried restarting once and the statue still was a pincushion in the last few areas.

Salt and Sanctuary - Haven't played in a while, but I'm working to get my max load up so I can one-hand a katana without slow movement.

Super Mario Odyssey - I think I'm at the Lake Kingdom.

I watched the original Soylent Philosopher's Stones Fullmetal Alchemist, this time with the English dub, since the first and second times I watched it subbed, and wasn't aware the second time I could switch the audio to English. I watched Conqueror of Shamballa as well with the English dub, and overall, it's definitely still one of my favorite animes.

Dragon Age: Inquisition - I'm at the formal ball or whatever where approval of the nobles matters, and need to find out how to advance.

Etrian Odyssey V - On Level 3 of the labyrinth, working on the mission to find the Sunstone at day and the Moonstone at night.

Kingdom Hearts Union X - Still working on the Proud Mode missions, and am past 400.

Resonance of Fate - Still in Chapter 2. I think I'm getting a good hang on the battle system, and have managed to fight well without using the action point-draining run-and-gun mechanic. I've been gaining supplemental levels by swapping weapons among my characters.

Salt and Sanctuary - My character can one-hand a spear now, so I can somewhat safely poke at enemies. I got a katana that's more powerful, so I'll get the skill to one-hand it as well.

Super Mario Odyssey - In the freezing desert, after beating another of the Broodals. Definitely a fun game.

I tried the original Elder Scrolls and wasn't a fan. Don't care much for classic Western RPGs.

Finished the Maze Runner series, and enjoyed it, despite some similarities to the Hunger Games books.
