General Discussions / Re: Completion List 2018

Thus far...

Quote
1. OFF
2. Chroma Squad
3. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
4. Batman: The Telltale Series
5. Monster Hunter World
6. Batman: The Enemy Within
7. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
8. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
9. Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
10. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
11. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
12. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
13. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete

I have two gaming goals for the year.  First, beat at least 10 games on a list of 12 that I posted on my blog:

http://therealmonsoon.blogspot.com/2017/12/gaming-goals-of-2018.html (only 3 out of 12 done so far, yikes)

And second, beat at least 8 Zelda games.  Plan from the beginning was to replay the four Game Boy Color/Advance titles, then replay the A Link to the Past / A Link Between Worlds duo, then play 2 Zelda games that I hadn't played before (Breath of the Wild was the first of these).  I'm already 5 out of 8 on the Zelda quest, and the 8th will probably be Majora's Mask.

I still think I can finish these two goals lists, but I've already been hamstrung by Monster Hunter World (which dominated my February and March), and playing Super Mario RPG and Lunar 1 and 2 for the podcast.  So yeah that's what I've been up to.

This is either a remake or a sequel of a game from 3 years ago.  RPGFan covered it

It's a little weird that PQube is publishing it, since they're based in the UK and this game is banned in that region.

I've thrown about 160 hours or so into it.  I'm not interested in doing tempered hunts, but I've beaten the story and I'm having fun making HR armor sets.  Hunted a few Deviljho this weekend.

The awards feature was released in 3 parts from January 23rd through 25th. They wouldíve been on the sidebar for about a week following the 23rd.

And the discussion in Discord wasnít terribly lengthy or even organized into its own channel. It was easy to miss. I saw the most discussion of the awards on the Facebook page. I donít think anyone made a forum post about them, which is a little unusual.

HTC Vive - probably the most well-reviewed virtual reality headset. It typically costs about $600 for the base version. They recently announced a new model as well.

Dragon Quest XI. That game looks gorgeous and I adore Dragon Quest. Hopefully the worldwide release is on all three announced systems.

Octopath Traveler if that comes out in 2018. The demo was great and I really, REALLY liked the two Bravely games. Not sure if that working title should be changed or not, heh.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. If this counts as a JRPG then itís near the top of my list. I love the IGA-style Castlevania games; I miss having them around; and Bloodstained looks like one in all but name.

Hi everyone, it's been a minute.

Retro Encounter just hit episode 100.  The episode itself is an atypical one, where six panelists play a game to pick a future Retro Encounter episode.  They start at a list of 12 games, and end at a list of four games.  Those final four became a poll, and that poll will become a Retro Encounter playthrough episode in November or December.  Episode 100 is partly playing that elimination game, and partly reminiscing about over two years of Retro Encounter.

It contains episode spoilers (technically), but the final poll is right here for your voting pleasure.  The poll will last a week, and go on longer if there's a tie.

In the next two weeks we have a pair of Final Fantasy XII episodes, and in October we continue living in the PS2 era with a pair of Digital Devil Saga episodes.  If you want to give feedback, criticism, or suggestions regarding the Retro Encounter podcast, then message me on the forums or email retro@rpgfan.com.

I live in an area with a thriving Vietnamese communit, so there are an abundance of pho restaurants all around. I couldn't be happier. I get a bowl or a banh mi at least once a week, which can't be good for me but it's goddamn delicious. There are even specialty vegan pho places around!

TL;DR Viet food is pretty good in the D.C. area.

What's odd about DC is that the best restaurants are in the suburbs. DC area also has some excellent Ethopian places to eat.

Underrated food place, Philly's Chinatown.
Can confirm.  There are a lot of good Ethiopian joints near me; some Eritrean ones, too.  Plus eating it in a group is fun, because of the big pancake and side sharing.  Hm, it's been several months since I've had Ethiopian....
