Star Ocean IV? Are you just checking to see if anyone here hates you?

I also see a vote for Bravely Default. Your enemy list keeps piling up.

I know you guys are joking around, but damn...I liked both Star Ocean 4 and Bravely Default. Kinda weird for me to see people shooing others away from them, especially when it's already clear that they showed enough interest to buy them in the first place. At some point, you just gotta try to get some value outta what you bought...and that's if he winds up sharing your opinions of them.

I've almost bought SO4 multiple times. With the exception of the VAs the trailer looks good. I really liked SO3 too (more than SO2). I think whats holding me back isn't that from what I read that it might be bad, but that it will be bad and 70 hours long.

I HATED Bravely Default. I bought it on launch day but I should have known. I never really liked the FFesque job system except in FFX-2 and FFT (some people do, personal taste). Grinding is rarely ever fun anymore especially w/ a battle system that IMO wasn't fun. Plus the characters were annoying. Graphics were good tho, and I did sell it on amazon for a miniscule profit. So there is that and according to reviews its seems like I'm in the minority thinking that its lousy.

Voted Trails of Cold Steel because its an all-time great. Its long as hell though and you'll probably go directly into CS2 after finishing it. So your next 160hrs of gaming are probably set.

I'm perfectly ok with that.  Trails is my second favorite RPG franchise.
I'm voting for Cold Steele as well.

The games MAJOR fault is its development budget of $52. The potential is there but holy hell. Its like a group of 12 people trying their hardest to make a jrpg.
I just gave up 90 hours in.

@Frostillicus - yes.  Yes I am.  And you'll notice SO4 has 1 vote, while all-time classics Finding Paradise and Rune Factory 4 have none. :P

@Lian_Kazairl - I bought the entire Mass Effect trilogy for $5 I think summer of last year.  But I played ME1 on 360 ages ago, so I'm actually excited to play through it again on PS3 all the way to its divisive conclusion.

@Aeolus - have you not played WoFF?

No, but I have played Rune Factory 4. Its a good-ish game and a far cry above RFs 1 & 2. Your mileage will vary though depending on how much the RNG likes you (I'll give you the rest of the trip report if and when the RNG likes me enough to let me beat the game).

As for WooFF, I kinda moved on from the FF Franchise back during the early parts of the FFXIII trilogy decade (when it became painfully obvious on just how blatantly Squeenix started cashing in on my nostalgia). I still haven't played Explorers, All the Bravest, FFIV: The Wonder Years, Dissidia, Alltherythym, Record Keeper, My Life as a King/Darklord, etc.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

I voted Cold Steel because it is my favorite among the options. I do wish I could have also voted for Rune Factory 4 though because it is sad that it has less votes than Star Ocean 4. :(

Oh thank god, someone else that dislikes Bravely Default. I'm not the only one!

I'm not at all surprised that some of my selections to add to this poll aren't exactly universally loved.  But they're games I am really interested in experiencing for myself.

For Bravely, that Job System will get me to forgive a LOT.  And for SO, I'm just interested in getting to play around with another SO battle system after so many years.  If I am not enjoying a game, I will just stop playing it.  I have no qualms about leaving a bad game unfinished, so length doesn't matter much to me.

People tell me that BD2 is better, and its cheaper now. Not that I'll never know for sure. You may like the job system, but you may not like the battle system. Its FF1's battle system only you can "DEFAULT!!!!WEEEEEE!@@!!!!@!!!!!!" which means skip a turn to have a stronger hit the next turn. I gave up after about 15 hours but even with the job system it still just seems like you are going to end up with a tank, a black + white mage, and someone who likes to punch things.

^Shut up. Bravely Default has the best battle system in a turn-based game I've ever played, hands down.

...sorry if that sounds like I got too defensive, I was just genuinely shocked at his remark about the combat system, especially since comparing it to FF1 is just straight-up false. Seriously, I don't care that you hate Bravely Default, but don't make shit up just to make it sound bad, man. Not cool. There's a lot of strategy that goes into it, especially with bosses. You can't "just have a tank, Black + White mage, and someone who likes to punch things" when you're dealing with elemental dragons that all needed to be approached differently. Plus, there was just some really cool party combinations you could pull off, and I often felt rewarded for experimenting with the job system. It is such a big part of the game, that I get not liking the game if you don't like the job system. But if that's your thing? If you liked the job system in Final Fantasy V, FFX-2, etc., then I'd say it's worth a shot.

Not even saying it's the 'Greatest game ever!' either, since the shinanigans it pulls in the second half (third act?) really sucked out my enthusiasm for the game. But what I did play was awesome, and I really want to finish it, just so I can experience more of that job system, and the battle system that utilizes it.

While unconventional, I'm giving that win to Ar Tonelico 2.

Hell, I'm even going to edit an explanation here.
AT2 has a Dark Souls battle system where even if you are facing an impossible challenge due to a difference in stat, if you have the skills, you can turn everything around and win.
(I know, sorry for 'dark souling' but it's the best representation of this)

Which is good because it would be impossible to finish otherwise (or was that an optional boss fight? I forget).

Also, lol at bringing up the Elemental Dragons re:BD's combat system (proceeds to make at least one character a Ninja, Umeki everything forever).

Bravely Default was more about picking out the most broken Job combinations at the time and auto-battling everything.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

I played the quite lengthy demo of BD when it came out.  The battle system is awesome.  I have no reservations about that part.  Just the infamous grind is all I'm worried about.

There's not a lot of grind to the game. Just play with encounters on until you finish your first lap through and then just manage your Exp/JP while boss rushing the rest of it.

What you should be concerned about is your button mashing skillz. You need to hammer fast and furious to unlock the bad end (and trust me when I say, don't be shy about this, you'll be given a litmus test immediately thereafter to see if you are ready, and the game will kindly restore you to the point before your decision to take the game off the rails once you've obtained said bad end, with loot and all).
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.
