I'm going to refrain from using a guide, since this is the first time I've ever played this game, and I have too much respect for it to cheat.

Good on you.  I'm of the opinion that following a 100% guide removes the whole point of playing the game.  May as well just watch a LP on youtube.

Using a guide for one part when you're stuck, though, or after you've beaten the story, that has a lot of value.

Part of me is like yass queen, you don't need no guide, enjoy your game.

But the other half of me is like "but the true ending of suikoden 2 is so touching..."
Loving the shit out of Sevendust's new single, "Dirty".
Nothing profound or groundbreaking about it.  It's just straight-up good old Sevendust, who still has it after 20 years.

Suikoden Dos - After winning the battle with Kiba's force (which was surprisingly easy), I've been roaming the map, looking for recruits. Came across Meg & Gadget, who have a pretty sweet Unite attack. I also finally figured out what Stallion meant by "training", and then he joined.
Still not sure how to recruit some of the obviously recruitable people I've met along the way...  I'm going to refrain from using a guide, since this is the first time I've ever played this game, and I have too much respect for it to cheat.

Driver: SF - Getting towards the end of the game. Just started chapter 6. Was finally able to afford my favorite car in the game, the McLaren F1. Races are now a non-issue.

If your predictions end up being true I might consider saving my orbs for Leif and friends, I was pretty damn lucky on the Performing Arts banner way back, pulling 3 of the Focus units, so I already have Inigo and Shigure. Though it did come back to bite me and I'm still mad that I drew 3 fucking Gaiuses last Legendary banner and now I'll have to wait god knows how long before PA Olivia is available again. At the rate they're adding new seasonals they'll never be able to cycle through them faster via Legendary banners so I don't know how the hell they're planning on fixing that.

IIRC Ephraim's not showing up this time so Fjorm can get another go. Guessing they'll be doing the same thing going forward, not having 2 Legendaries on the same color (just to make it that much more annoying to get one of each so you can do well in an entire mode). Hopefully whatever colorless Legendary we get this time around will be Fire to make up for Ephraim not being there, and they'll keep color balance within each Legendary element.

Dunno about Grima though, it'd be weird as hell to have her being a Legendary "Hero" since so far the theme seems to be either an OC donut touch character or a version of a character at the end of a given game (Ike's a Vanguard and for Ephraim it straight up says he defeated the Demon King). I think Corrin F might be more likely if that's what they're going for.

Trails of Cold Steel

I wonder if my wife will be opposed to me marrying this game?

I've explored the schoolhouse down to the 5th level and fought the Freeze You Constantly Dragon.  Gave me my first party wipe.  Went back in and changed nothing but my strategy and won with only the loss of Gaius.  Poor Gaius, I was really enjoying having him as my #1.  With his 4 ARCUS lines he was incredibly effective at putting all kinds of fun status effects on enemies.  But to the bench he goes, leaving Alisa as my new #1.  I've changed Gaius' master quartz from Falco to Raven to give him more speed and really focus on getting those debuffs out quickly.  However, that will definitely impact his Evasion.  I honestly haven't been using Insight the way I probably should.  Heck, even the Freeze You Constantly Dragon was wasting turn after turn going after Gaius on my second attempt, and I wasn't even thinking about the EVA boost Insight gives as being the reason Gaius was dodging so well.  I'm bad at this game.

My current Alisa build is ATS/HP based.  I'm wondering if I should try to make her more of a healer, though?  She's still using her Angel MQ, which is why I am focusing on her HP.  But for healing she only has Teara and Thelas, for now.  Wondering if I should try giving her Holy Breath or something to go with it.  She has plenty of great offensive Arts, though.  With her Red/Red/Gold quartz requirements it makes diversifying her a bit difficult.  Any advice?

Alisa is less of a healer and more of a revival specialist. If I remember correctly she also has the best CP restorer ability.  Her offensive arts are good from what I remember but took a crazy long time to get off.

I used Gaius early a lot in CS1 but not too much after that. I gave fie his MQ and turned her into a speed/evasion tank.  I suppose if you wanted to you could give him rean's or laura's MQ and turn him into a slightly faster Laura (damage would be lessened as a trade off for a better ability to take a hit and speed/evasion).

Fie is great out in the field, arguably the best character against multiple opponents in random battles. She can occasionally make a tough boss easy if you could seperate her from the party and draw the monster's attn. If she does get hit tho she's pretty much toast, her damage is kind of weak-avg and her debuffs/status effects rarely work on tough bosses.

New girl you mentioned in spoilers is a decent defensive player but OMG slow.

some peoples who are a better CS player than I can supposedly make Emma the strongest player in the game. However for me she'd always get hit with a status effect, take 1-2 hits and die. Her special and some spells are crazy powerful tho. I think there is a build where you can concentrate on say 1 (maybe 2) color spells (black?), use orbs to decrease the casting time and give her anti-status effect equip/orbs.

After racking up a 4.75% pity rate on the Awakening Banner, I finally got a 5 star unit before that fucker went away completely tonight. Specifically a +Res/-HP Elincia....that's heard me.

I don't know if it's worse to get pity broken by a unit you don't want (and likely will barely use), or to run out of orbs before the banner ends without a 5*. +RES/-HP on Elincia is a bummer, but at least you didn't get -ATK or -SPD. Still, Elincia's probably the best Red Flier for a while (Wing Sword bumped Caeda up quite a bit but her noodle arms still kinda hold her back), so you'll probably get a decent amount of use out of her.

The worst part is being tapped on Orbs right before the one-two punch of a Seasonal and Legendary Banners. Especially since I was hoping to get Fire Ephraim this go around (or at least a fourth copy of Fjorm), and the seasonal reduxes are likely going to be the Child Performers (Shigure and Inigo) and some combination of Henriween, Frakenjakob, Nowitch and Nekora. Rumor has it that the newest Legendary will be Female Grima as a Colorless Dragon (its going to be so funny when Aversa/Gangrel/Walhart/Validar show up later on with so much powercreep that any one of them could chump the Grimas).

As for Elincia herself, I don't mind pulling her since she completes my Red Flier collection (beyond NYCamilla), so much as I mind the fact that I can't seem to pull a Red Flier with good traits for the life of me (my Nowitch is still +Def/-Atk while both of my Caedas are Neutral and none of my Pallas have a + in either Atk or Spd (and often have -Atk or -Spd instead). At least her traits means that she's getting a Super Boon (even if 31's still not enough to run Ploys off of), not that it helps her much with her 32 HP total.

That all said, if there's one thing to be said about fixes implemented for this round of the Tappa! Tappa! Tappa! mode, its that the first five floors on Normal Mode now has 8 enemies. Laughing out fucking loud.

But what about slipping on rocks when it rains?

That right there wins my "dumb gameplay mechanic of the year" award. All the funnier that something so frustrating as the rock slippage be incorporated in a game otherwise so fantastically done.

Now that you have me musing over it, I'd go so far as to call it darkly comedic.

Cabin fever due to a couple of snow days resurrected this in my brain.

*snip, snip*

So the three (edit: in Dincrest's party) proceed through a dungeon that resembles the tomb of the unknown king in Final Fantasy 8 ( but more slimy, more cramped, and more disgusting.  It's quite easy to get lost in this dungeon since everything looks the same and there are some rather foul enemies, but eventually the party reaches a point where the earsplitting "frogfanny" sound shakes their very core and jiggles their bowels.  The follow the sound to the boss battle:  A giant...

panda sized creature that looks like a swamp green furred otter crossed with a skunk.  This creature is immune to water attacks and its signature fart attack reminiscent of a skunk spray can easily decimate the entire party.  Ergo, this is one of those boss battles where the party only has a limited number of turns to take down the beast before it fully turns around and lifts its tail.

Dincrest, Roko, and Alexandra manage to defeat the beast, proceed a little further, and find a ladder to a large ceiling grate.  They peer through it to see Crestee's party causing some havok of their own in the castle.  Timing a well placed burst-through perfectly, Dincrest and Roko smash through the gate, leaping into the fray with Alexandra right behind.

Meanwhile, 100 years in the future

Zidd is back in his secret lab in the Norgo Mountains making little to no progress in discovering the Decoy Eye's secrets.  He has spent many sleepless nights indefatigably trying to harness this thing's power, all the while muttering to himself how some old hermit in the swamp seems to know more about this than a mad genius like him.  Zidd only seems to disengage when he needs to eat or go to the bathroom.  This is where we're exposed to one of Zidd's peculiar habits.  Every time he needs to use the bathroom, he always needs to declare "I have to go pee-pee in the potty" or "I have to go make a potty in the bathroom" before heading to the toilet, regardless of who is or isn't around.  Still, the call of nature doesn't bother Zidd as he believes (in his own mind) that he does his best thinking while sitting on the toilet.  While engaging in one of those incredibly satisfying bowel movements that makes you feel 10 pounds lighter afterwards, Zidd has an epiphany regarding the Decoy Eye and laughs maniacally as the screen fades out.

Back to the past
The stench of these three intruders bursting through the floor is enough to cause most everyone to let their guard down, allowing the entire entourage (Crestee, Alexander, Leora, Dincrest, Roko, and Alexandra) to...
