How long do you play an RPG for in one sitting
« on: January 11, 2012, 12:17:03 AM »
Just curious. might start playing Grandia 2 for like 8 hours but I've never played a game for that length before. The most 2 hours in one sitting though

It's not something I consciously track, but I only could binge if I was really, REALLY into a game, and I'd probably still be pausing and stepping away frequently.

Depends on the game. I managed to blitz through Nier in one 20 hour romp for the first completion. I can essentially play any game til I get bored, hungry, tired, or find something better to do. I've put 24 hour runs in before, with ample potty breaks and nourishment. It's just got to be engrossing, otherwise I'll normally do 2-3 hours on a game.

Longest is probably an Oblivion session lasting 10 hours.

I once played Risk on PSX for 14 hours w/ a friend. Didn't even finish the match

When I start a session of a RPG I try to play at least 2 hours, its just not the kind of games I enjoy playing by little parts.

RPGs? Usually 2-4 hours, before I get bored, hungry, tired or just generally want/need to do something else.

....Or, basically, the same thing D. Agent said.

But when I played Mass Effect 2, I had at least one 12-hour session in there somewhere. No regrets.

I rarely play any console game, regardless of genre, for more than 1 hour. PC games I generally get to about an hour unless it's particularly involving, then it's more like 2. If I'm really enjoying a handheld game then I will literally just sit and play it for hours.

I seem to be par for the course here, usually doing a 2-4 hour sitting, depending what life has in store for me. Just did about 3 in War on the North, for example.

However, if I've a day off that I don't need to get out and about for auditions, banking, other such things, I can camp out at home for a big binge.

Longest is probably an Oblivion session lasting 10 hours.
Definitely one of my bigger binges. I totally have done that, and thensome. I'm pretty sure I've banked a 13 hr. day on Oblivion. I think I also did when I rented Borderlands for a week, putting in several 5-10 hr. days. Minecraft too. Ugh. So addicting.

I once played Risk on PSX for 14 hours w/ a friend. Didn't even finish the match
Haven't played for quite that long, but I've had similar encounters while playing Civ 3/4 with my best bud. Pulling all nighters before we even know what's happening, just doing hotseat - it's madness.
Just Greg, thanks.

Dark Souls took up an entire 12 hours when it came out. So it depends on the game.

If it doesn't grip me, 2-3 hours or so. If it does, until I'm dragged away by force.

Usually 1-2 hours and 1-2 sittings a day. But if there's a game I need to review and I'm really, really into it, I might play up to 10 hours a day. Technically it's work, so I have an excuse.

Usually during the weekdays, 1-2 hours at most (many days, not at all). Every other weekend, or so, if I'm really really into a game, I'll lay back and pull an 8 hour. Needless to say, since I'm playing Xenoblade, that's happened a lot recently. But once in a while I'll binge a little on a weekday. Today I played for about 5 hours, but that's very rare.

During school: 1-2 hours, portable gaming more
Weekends or Days off: 5 hour runs, maybe more with breaks.

Given up a lot of gaming for hobbies and buddy time with buds.

Depends more upon my schedule than the game hooking me actually. Days I work I normally play @2 hours early in the AM, then work, play @ an hour to unwind when I get home. Days I am off I'll play (assuming I don't have prior commitments, I try and have at least one "me day" every other week) from the time I wake up, usually @6 AM at latest until @ 8 PM with a few small breaks here and there.

I'm guessing when I finally get Skyrim, or even New Vegas (I'll probably get that 1st when a package on is realeased) I'll go for a marathon run. I'll shoot for 10 or 12. Probably 12. I mean that's how long a work day is for me so why can't I play games that long?

I suppose the question is implying that people play rpgs differently than other games? I wonder if it's ever really been that way at all. I'm sure COD or Halo nuts will play for hours on end as well. Or even just someone playing Uncharted.

I generally play games 4-5 days a week. Most of the time is at night after my wife and son have gone to bed. I'll play for an hour to an hour and a half. Sometimes I get consumed and lose track of time and stay up way later than I should. Getting up at 5:30 is a bitch when there's a great game to play.
On the weekends, it depends upon the season. In the Winter, when it's cold and miserable outside, I'll sit down and play a couple hrs on Sat. and Sun. During nicer weather, I spend almost all my time in the garden/outdoors, and my gaming time "suffers". Basically, I need Winter to catch up on my games. The warm weather lately hasn't been helping.
