Pillars of Eternity or Torment Tides of Numenera?
« on: December 29, 2017, 01:47:38 AM »
I got both for Christmas, and I know both are going to be a massive time sink.

Any recommendations?

I've only played a little of both, but I will say that Pillars engaged me a LOT more. It gets off to a really strong start, and from what I played, it didn't lose its momentum. I actually need to go back to it  I only put it down because so much other stuff came out. So, I think Pillars is the one I would pick up first, if I were you. :)

I really need to give Tides another shot but from what I played it really didn't hook me at all.  I felt no connection or engagement with any of the characters.  Admittedly I didn't get very far...but that's because I was too bored to continue.

And this is coming from someone who regularly claims Planescape: Torment is his favorite game of all time.

Pillars is great though.

Thought both were pretty weak.

Torment's definitely weirder if that's what you're after. It's not quite on the level of Planescape Torment, but it's still delightful. You can pretty much go combat-free, too.

See, this is how I felt. I just could not get into the game. I'm glad I got it from my rental service.

Tyranny =P

I'll second this. While it has its own flaws, Tyranny was more enjoyable than either of those games.

If Tyranny comes out on console, I'll play it.

In the meantime I am almost done playing Pillars. It's been great.
