A couple of days ago, I saw the film Bohemian Rhapsody in my local recliner theater.  I had a great time watching it.  Rami Malek's performance as Freddie Mercury was out of this world.  I also loved that the film was not a heavy-handed documentary but rather a rollicking rock opera.  It took some creative liberties, to be sure, but what movie doesn't?  This was meant to be a rock opera film, not a heavy handed thesis level documentary.  Basically, the reason I liked it is the reason many critics hated it.  I often felt that exhilaration I felt either seeing live bands or performing on stage myself, and that feeling is not easy to replicate in a movie (which is a more passive experience to me.)  And learning that Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara (a Parsi whose parents were from Gujarat, India) makes him even cooler!  One of the greatest rock stars to ever walk this Earth was essentially my ethnicity.  Boss!

Queen is simply one of the greatest bands to ever walk this Earth.  Forget about Freddie's multi-octave vocal range for a second.  Brian May is easily one of the finest guitarists alive.  Roger Taylor is an incredibly dynamic drummer.  And John Deacon is one of the most underrated bassists out there.  If you take the bass out of any Queen song, it's trash.  Dude has the groove, the pocket, and the chops.

Why do I have a feeling that Square Enix in terms of managements is a total dumpster fire?  Seriously, they can't seem to stay on schedule for any of their projects.

I could've lived without a Noctis DLC (I mean ... didn't we just play the whole game as Noctis?). But I was very hopeful for Episodes Aranea & Lunafreya. Sigh...

Hopefully the Ardyn expansion makes for a decent prequel.

I honestly enjoyed this game a great deal.

ATK/DEF Bond is great, Gale Dance is niche, and Water Boost is garbage. The boost skills were already niche when they were first released, but powercreeped skills that are nearly as powerful as Boosts and stupidly inflated HP values in PvE content has made them completely useless. They have to change boost skills to at least +8 of a stat to make them worth using again (also lower the HP requirement to just more than opponent's HP rather than having +3 on them).

BST powercreep on the new banner is stupid, but I guess not unexpected at this point. At least they had the sense to restrict Null Followup to Infantry, which finally gives them something unique and is actually useful (Well, Infantry Pulse/Rush can be good, but they need really specific setups to work well).

Saber's refine is pretty interesting, but I'm kinda disappointed in the Elibe refines (go figure the 5* exclusives keep getting the cool ones). To be fair they're mostly boring-but-practical refines. Shanna's is a tried and true formula, Florina's kinda forces her into melee range so I guess people who gave her DC/Berkut's Lance will be sticking to that, but I think Bartre's is a waste. He's usually only going to get use out of two of the stats on Fury (unless you +SPD him, but even if you stack on it his SPD is average at best), and it cuts into his HP if you use him for Panic Ploy. I guess it'll give him 1 more Atk than the Mt refine so it has that. He would've much preferred an ATK/DEF Bond/Solo effect I think. Killing effect would've worked too, or hell, even Heavy Blade.

But the important news is Aether Raids. So far I like it, although I gotta say I would've preferred they just applied these changes to Arena itself since now the two modes are kinda redundant, but I guess that's about half the game now. Even though you have to go through the annoying task to destroying the two resources on the enemy's side to get maxed out points (via Aether regeneration), it's really not that bad because you get to set up 5 teams in advance and just pick the one you want to attack with. Obvious teams to make would include anti horse-emblem (complete with a Green Raventome to double check LynHardt), Armorslayers and Wing Clippers (though that last one's not so important since buildings really get in the way foe them in this mode). As a side effect it seems like it's nearly impossible to not get losses on your defense at some point, but I guess we'll see.

Most fun part is the defense building though. Naturally, I set out to create the most annoying defense I could possibly muster.

The tome dancer is important, gotta make her go last after all. I just gotta unlock my fifth slot so I can put in Brave Lyn.

Also they need to make it so people can fight their friend lists. How else are we going to out-annoy each other?

@Aeolus - that's mostly how I remember SG: Atlantis, too. As for Galactica, yeah, the newer one. It's probably not worth rewatching in full, but I loved how it started out, at least.

But I'm not sure I could put up with the ages special effects, set design, and overall look of Babylon 5. It's not just the CGI that bothered me, the alien designs and ships all look too wierd to me. Plus I spoiled a few bits in an effort to convince myself it was worth a shot...I think I'd rather read a novel adaption instead, which is saying something considering my general apathy towards literature.

Necroing because

End of the road boys. No Aranea, Lunafreya or Noctis for you.

I suspect it has something to do with this:

Between this, The Quiet Man and the running joke that is the FFVII remake, I find myself so glad I washed my hands of Squeenix a long time ago.

Also, I vote the thread title be renamed FINAL FANTASY XV, This is reality based on a fantasy.

Bought a month of Amazon Prime for Halloween-related things, and decided to rewatch a bunch of old sci-fi while I was at it, plus some new stuff:

Battlestar Galactica (Mini-series) - This was a fantastic way to start a dramatic sci-fi series, and it reminds me why I was so excited for it back in the day! Almost jumped straight into the main series, but that'll have to wait until another time. Besides, I fell out of love towards the end of either Season 2 or early season 3. It felt like they dragged it out far too long, made worse by the fact that the humanoid Cylons were just...stupid, IIRC. At least for a machine race. I guess we wouldn't have much of a series if they were actually efficient, ruthless, and logical, though...

Stargate: Atlantis - They didn't have more than 2 seasons of SG1, so I tried to start this instead....but I couldn't figure out what was going on. I'm pretty sure this spin-off actually started in an episode of SG1, so it didn't introduce the characters, and started off with a ton of techno-babble without much context. I don't remember actually enjoying this one much, so I'm not gonna bother with it.

Babylon 5 - WOW! This has not aged well - neither in effects, set design, or acting. Gave up after a couple of minutes. Not really my cup of tea.

Let me guess, you're referring to the Aughts grimdark BSG miniseries and not the made-for-TV movie 70s BSG miniseries (which is also pretty good for what it is and the period it was made for). Unfortunately, I feel that the Aughts BSG aged very poorly over the last decade and change. Once you know all the mysteries in play, all that's left is relentless pessimism and the poor filming techniques that plagued the later Aughts.

As for SG: Atlantis, it was one of those things where all the effort went to the base show and it never got out from under SG-1's shadow. It doesn't help matters that the SG-1 writing model (episodic A plots with a seasonal/series-wide B/meta-plot running in the background) doesn't work quite as well on SG:A as the show wasn't nearly as grounded as SG-1 was (so you can't just pop into an episode and know the gist of what's going on; especially since Atlantis lacked a 95 Stargate movie equivalent to serve as a primer for the meta-plot).

Meanwhile, I too have been going through Babylon 5 recently (and still am). My advice is to skip The Gathering (i.e. the pilot; as the show steadily improves in quality over the first two seasons) and to embrace the 5 mile long 90s Time Capsule drifting all alone in the night (its like being 8 years old again, plus you can almost see the effect it had on things like Starcraft and Beast Wars).

From what people have datamined, the banner is actually supposed to be Kidzura's imaginary entourage (which might explain Camilla, due to her being 'big sis', in exchange of making literally everyone else on the banner more of an asspull). Still would've preferred Scarlet over yet another Camilla (especially for a Mage with poor Spd and not enough Atk to compensate; nevermind the fact that we've just got a really good Flying Red Mage and the means to make her actually really good soon). Also sounds like this banner is going to be our Lead-in/Prologue for Book 3 (in the "I can't believe Summoner is fucking dead!" meme sense).

For other stat news, the Corrins are Trainee Infantry Dragons (not quite 170 BST but close) with Male Corrin powercreeping launch Female Corrin almost entirely (Fae's still holding on against New Female Corrin), Mikoto is almost a straight powercreep on Bride Lyn (Lyn has +2 Spd over Mikoto's +7 Atk, the other stats are generally more comparable to each other), and Kidzura is tied for highest Atk out of our current Dancer roster but is otherwise a slow Green Infantry Mage.

As for the refines, the base upgrade just gives everyone +2 Mt to their previous weapons/refine options. For Dew refine options though, Saber is by far the big winner this go around with +3 across the board and Distant Counter upon starting combat with a fully charged Special (this effectively turns him from a Sigurd prototype/glorified speed bump for Range=2 units into discount Red Fjorm).

The others are sadly far less spectacular with Bartre and Shanna only getting Fury 3 and Hauteclare effects respectfully, while Florina gets +4 across the board against melee units during enemy phase (which might have been significant on somebody other than Florina).

One thing that people haven't really mentioned in regards to Aether Castle is that there are two fixtures that you must place in your castle that can reward opposing players extra Aether stamina if destroyed, so if you thought that there was a chance that this mode wasn't quite as pay2win as Arena Assault is, then prepare to be disappointed.

But most important parts of the update are that Relay Defense seems to have been quietly taken out back (whether it'll be sent to a farm upstate or not remains to be seen, but....), and that Blessed Gardens has finally been shoved into a sub menu (where it belongs, you sub menu mode) in favor of the new hotness.

Edit Blow: They've posted the +_+ rewards and bonus units. Atk/Def Bond is the headliner, Water Boost and Gale Dance are definitely Seals as well, and thank naga that Bonkers is one of the bonus units (as I don't have to spend any orbs on this banner); especially in face of Vanilla Ryoma and Leo being the other two non-banner bonus units.

"Don't let your memes be dreams" -Reinhardt, probably. Too bad his victory dance was soon drowned out by the sound of the Fates hategasm.

I'm mostly ambivalent about the Valla banner (Null Follow-up is dumb, but then again you'll be forced to drop Wrath/Desperation/Special Spiral in favor of it so it probably won't be as big a deal as some are making it out to be). To be honest even though the community seems to be freaking out over it, I actually find "what-if" alts like these more interesting than putting a popular character in a santa outfit or whatever. The main problem is that it's taking the place of a "normal" banner- hell even just limiting ourselves to Fates there's still a ton of characters who haven't been added. That and Camilla does not belong on this banner in any way whatsoever, Arete would've made way more sense and she can get them waifubux anyhow.

I'll enjoy seeing what Bartre's Viagraxe brings us, and I guess they wanted to calm any Elibe rage before March comes along by also giving us Shanna and Florina weapons (Raigh still gets to rot though). I only have Florina at 5* right now, but I have Bartre and Shanna with good IVs and I've wanted to promote them for a while, so I'll have a lot of things to play with when the update drops. Saber getting Golden Dagger is pretty funny, I'm pretty sure every single person just stole it back from him after he joins the party.

Big news is the incoming new mode with 2.11 (and not 3.0!) though. Strange that they're adding a new mode now, you'd think they'd just save it and make a huge update when 3.0 drops, but I guess they need to tide people over for the month. I'd say this is that town-building mode they teased a while back, but I think they really missed the point if they think this is what people want. It's not really a problem with the mode itself (basically it's just My Castle from Fates, except I guess the Order of Heroes also possesses Ant Man shrinking technology that lets them take their buildings everywhere), but I think when people think "town-building simulator" in the context of phone games they're thinking of those afk-townbuilding games instead of an Arena 2.0. Letting it have its own separate stamina bar is kinda insane given how busy the game gets when ++s or whatever are running, but at least it's one that resets daily rather than one on a timer so you can spend it at your leisure.

We also get 3 whole new currencies (that's what, like 12 now?), one of which is to buy GHB/TT units. Might seem like a pretty nice deal until you notice that Aether Raids will probably only give you something like 50 Grails a week for the average non-whale (that's assuming Lift is something most people can reasonably max out every week like personal rank in GC, otherwise it's probably more like 30 Grails or something). It takes 3200 Grails to get 10 copies of one unit, so it takes like a full year to get one fully merged unit (also 200000 feathers since they come at 4*). They'll probably give out a couple via other events too, but I'm guessing it'll be like Sacred Coins where they're dripfed pretty strictly.
