@Mickeymac92 -- All I gotta say is Tekken 7 is awesome. Although I am not gonna defend the bowling. I mean, I can't even bowl as my mondo-awesome klyde-lee kustimization.. What the hell is that about? Oh and I wish I didn't suck so bad at fighting games.... there is that too.

@Rook -- I share in your sentiments. The thing about FF/Chrono remakes and ol' JRPG's of yesteryear is quite simply I've been spoiled by modern convention. Games have just gotten TOO good for me to find appreciation for much beyond the art and music of older titles. The charm may still be there but it isn't enough for me to ignore what I COULD be playing nowadays.

Or that one Genesis game that came out a few years back that was basically an indie devs' Deviant Art OC adventures through Godwin's notes and was sexually predatory enough to sound like it came from a big time Hollywood movie exec (and also littered with mismatched assets stolen from wherever the devs could nick them from).

That made me "Lol"... Thank you Aeolus.

I really recommend Adult Tiki. I raised one of the weapon upgrades became available, and now she's one of my favourite Lyn counters.

I'm really loving this t_t. Good rewards coming in at a good pace, maps that aren't terrible, a boss that puts up a fight (unlike the last one), several easily available bonus units, and holy shit, Alfonse is great when on bonus steroids! Mine has Desperation and Brash Assault, and once his HP reaches critical levels, everything dies. His def is pretty awesome too.

Are you talking about Pier Solar and the Great Architects? Because that...doesn't sound like it, but it's the only recent Genesis RPG I know of...

@Frostillicus - yes.  Yes I am.  And you'll notice SO4 has 1 vote, while all-time classics Finding Paradise and Rune Factory 4 have none. :P

@Lian_Kazairl - I bought the entire Mass Effect trilogy for $5 I think summer of last year.  But I played ME1 on 360 ages ago, so I'm actually excited to play through it again on PS3 all the way to its divisive conclusion.

@Aeolus - have you not played WoFF?

No, but I have played Rune Factory 4. Its a good-ish game and a far cry above RFs 1 & 2. Your mileage will vary though depending on how much the RNG likes you (I'll give you the rest of the trip report if and when the RNG likes me enough to let me beat the game).

As for WooFF, I kinda moved on from the FF Franchise back during the early parts of the FFXIII trilogy decade (when it became painfully obvious on just how blatantly Squeenix started cashing in on my nostalgia). I still haven't played Explorers, All the Bravest, FFIV: The Wonder Years, Dissidia, Alltherythym, Record Keeper, My Life as a King/Darklord, etc.

And yet still we have WARGARBLLLLL WHERE MAH CHRONO TRIGGER and FF6?!?! crowd. News flash: they even remade your CT and FF6 like-games you always wanted. Its called I am Sestuna and Bravely Default. Oh and both those games are trash grindfests but I'm sure they'd be incredible where they belonged, in 1994. You are even getting your Secret of Mana. Oh and here comes a new Dragon Quest, whose archaic battle system and barebones story will probably bore you to tears by hr. 30.  RETRO JRPG MASTER RACE R U NOT ENTERTAINED?

Calling you out on this. Bravely Default was a poor substitution (even before getting into the second half, or the original JP version) and I am Gundam! was pretty much a publisher funded College Student's Grad Project (littered with plagiarism, completely tonedeaf, had only one moderate hook to run into the ground, horribly unbalanced, and just shabby all around). Hence why Bravely Second is a game that most people only consider to have existed at one time, but isn't talked about much, and nobody listed Lost Spheda (I could be wrong, its been a while since I checked) in their Anticipated Games of 2018 Thread posts.

Besides, for every CT/FFVI fanboi still griping about the lack of sequels, you still have plenty of Suikoden fandom clamoring for a true Suki VI, or Level 5 fans wishing for lightning to strike the same place twice for Dark Cloud 3, or Shadow Hearts fans waiting for the IP to fall into someone else's hands.

wait wut? I am Sestuna was plagarized? The only dialogue I remember is go here and get that. How the hell do you plagarize that?

Name the game I'm describing: Your character ends up on the shores of a distant island where he meets a girl who's about to go on a world saving pilgrimage that'll end with her life. Along the way you'll meet 4 other random jobbers who'll assist in keeping this chick safe on this journey. You'll be antagonized along the way by some random broody asshat for bullshit reasons. I should note that the previous journey involved the parents of the girl who Pilgrimaging now. Can you name me?

I mean I wouldn't mind a Suikoden sequel either (though I didn't like 4-5). I also wouldn't mind a Phantasy star 5 (assuming Sega could make a good PS5). Its just that I feel people are making games similar to the 90s games (the DS has a few) only they aren't that good because its not the early 90s anymore and that kind of gameplay just doesn't fly. Also I kind of feel like people have kind of taken this gen for granted because much of the games coming out are pretty damn good. Maybe I'm having a hard time explaining myself or maybe I'm babbling nonsense becuase my head is full of medicine as I've been in bed for 2 days with the flu. dunno.

You may be thinking of games like Black Sigil which thought it was being clever with its retro homage, but instead made everything Bigger, Longer and Uncut and then implemented a gameplay system that does not work on that scale at all.

That said, I wont argue with you on the matter of this gen's quality. Compared to the PSWii60's gen where the highlights were Nier 1, XBC1, Deadly Premonition, TWEWY, and maybe Valkyria Chronicles, and the FFXIII Trilogy; 2017 alone blows that entire era out of the water. Hell, the PS2/Gamecube/Xblock era was actually kinda weak in terms of quality JRPG experiences (there were a number of worthwhile titles, but most of that era was littered with crap like Magna Carta, Odin's Slowdown, the original .//Hack quadlogy, Kingdom Hearts 2, among others). Hell, it says a lot of that era where the Ar Tonelico games were held in higher esteem then the usual dreck when they were little more than glorified VNs armed with a somewhat okayish gameplay system and stuffed with more innuendo than a Bond film. And for handhelds, even the DS was a goddamn wasteland for JRPGs (the best there was Radiant Historia, a game made on a shoestring budget and ran a combat system that can be summed up as 'Step 1: Lay Trap, Step 2: Push Enemies onto Trap, Step 3: Success') and that was the one that buried the PSP (although most, if not all, of the credit belongs to Sony on that one).

Voted Trails of Cold Steel because its an all-time great. Its long as hell though and you'll probably go directly into CS2 after finishing it. So your next 160hrs of gaming are probably set.

I'm perfectly ok with that.  Trails is my second favorite RPG franchise.
I'm voting for Cold Steele as well.

The games MAJOR fault is its development budget of $52. The potential is there but holy hell. Its like a group of 12 people trying their hardest to make a jrpg.
I just gave up 90 hours in.

The madmen actually gave us a QR seal. I bet Armads will get some kind of upgrade next time they add more reforges since everyone can run his signature combo now. I've so far avoided promoting any Subakis to 5* so it's nice to have my misering rewarded. Now they just need to add Distant Counter, Steady Breath and Fury seals (the final one just so people can run a Triple-Fury Eldigan who takes 18 damage after battle). It's just that as always, it sucks to have to constantly shift seals around so you can only ever have one guy carrying the QR seal.

Promoting Adult Tiki would certainly go well with the QR seal, but personally I've had a -SPD +DEF one (Personally I think if you have the option you should just dump SPD on her since its unsalvageable anyway) at 4* for a while, and while she does her designated role really well, I've never felt the need to promote her because people just don't run axes that much, mostly one of Hector, Amelia or BIke, and you don't need such a dedicated unit like Tiki to take them out. Her weakness to Nino's brute force and Naga kinda limits her ability as a team Red too. That and her optimum build really wants you to stick Steady Breath on her so she can spam Aether or some other long charge move.

My main reason for wanting to promote A Tiki is because I don't have the younger variant to run alongside my 5 star Nowi and Fae (I also lack Ninian, who's kind of the linchpin to the whole Dragon Emblem idea, but she'll hopefully pitybreak my heart sooner or later). I really don't care about optimum builds that much since I don't whale for that kind of nonsense (or at all for that matter). Besides, the real reason is to have another Dragon to throw at those fucking AA Bowlins because two isn't enough.

I probably should just go with +Atk since its easier to jack up Def in the long run (especially with Forges) and since the devs keep buffing Armor Emblem, the novelty of having a Red 42 Base Def, 2 Mv, DC Tank has become rather less novel (especially since I have two of the three Armor March Armors). But given her utter lack of Spd, 3 points of Atk isn't going to be rocking any boats either. Hmm...

I've almost bought SO4 multiple times. With the exception of the VAs the trailer looks good. I really liked SO3 too (more than SO2). I think whats holding me back isn't that from what I read that it might be bad, but that it will be bad and 70 hours long.

I HATED Bravely Default. I bought it on launch day but I should have known. I never really liked the FFesque job system except in FFX-2 and FFT (some people do, personal taste). Grinding is rarely ever fun anymore especially w/ a battle system that IMO wasn't fun. Plus the characters were annoying. Graphics were good tho, and I did sell it on amazon for a miniscule profit. So there is that and according to reviews its seems like I'm in the minority thinking that its lousy.
