PoSoM: And beaten. I still have the Plat to go but for the most part this 'remaster' does some really fucking stupid bullshit that does everything in its power to make the game unplayable. I've had roughly a dozen crashes altogether (at least one per day plus one or two more from when I didn't take the hint and still kept on playing). Other bugs included having to switch up the spells the Sprite was casting due to the game choking on the query and not running the spell's script without another spell stuffed into the query instead, everybody getting knocked out of bounds on a frequent basis, enemies with such a backlogged query of incoming damage that they just freeze there without doing anything (they still remain viable targets while like this but they don't go away until you leave the screen), enemy AI with a bad habit of chain casting all of their magic (the second tier of Wizard Eyes and their endless stream of Cure Waters say hi; bonus points for making Bosses even less threatening than they were before because you aren't dealing with a storm of particle effects on a regular basis with them), musical tracks that vanish off the face of the earth if you bring up the PS Menu for any reason, and the list goes ever on....

That being said, I cannot fully condemn this version on the grounds that if this gets a stability update down the road, this might not be a bad alternative to the other versions, but only because MP gets restored from Leveling Up (play your cards right and have no need to spend hours spamming Wall in the Sprite's Village), and the fact that you can get back into Pure Land proper after reaching the Mana Tree (the one honest-to-god point-of-no-return from the original is no more so as long as you fight and defeat every enemy in the game, then you too could beat the game at a reasonable level and still walk away with a shiny Plat). All the other 'improvements' are superficial at best (also, its kinda stupid to be resting at Neko's Inn and hearing about Elinee for the umpteenth time when I came to load up on Barrels and top off my MP because I just cleaned out Neko's wares at the Mana Palace and no longer have any use for money).

And yes, the Lich's boss fight music now sounds as overly busy-as-fuck like most every other remade track in the game. Meridian Dance fortunately didn't get butchered (but that's more likely due to the fact that they reused the fuck out of that track for SD3 and so the devs have that one ingrained in their minds).

News on the next round of updates have been revealed.

The first new mode sounds interesting with its massive multihero conceit, and more importantly, makes use of the friends list.

The second new mode is basically to make blessings ubiquitous which in turn should make it friendly to F2Pers (although I think you still need at least one Legendary unit for each element).

And finally, a new weapon for Soren plus forges for him, Leo and Vanilla Eirika (Vanilla Roy and OG Male Corrin will get theirs someday).

I do want to get to the original, but for now I've got to clear some stuff in my backlog. Unless Dragon Quest XI's release date ends up much closer that I'm thinking, it'll be a while yet before the next big thing comes along, so there's plenty of time.

XC1 is something special. Its easily one of the last great JRPG's that we got imo.

Well, I've got my depressing Takumis and now I'm both sad and happy. Sad because, shit, that backstory, that confession, that everything. Happy, because I beat Infernal with Takumi backed up by two dancers and Klein. It was a really tough battle what with all those (ranged) reinforcements and all, so I'm pretty proud of myself.

Got one of them up to 5 stars, but I'm not entirely sure what do you with rest. Maybe I'll just build all three and bully GHB characters who are dumb enough to cluster together and not move.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to that free Ike. I feel bad for Soren that he'll have to end his support with Brave Ike, but two green units hooking up just isn't a very tactically sound decision. I'm sure him and strategically appropriate Ike will get along just fine. Now, I'll just need a not-green Soren for Brave Ike and everything will be perfect.

Hopefully it'll become something they release after the game releases.

All good, all good.  My aim with my post was to bolster the list thread of "whats" with "whys."  Why do folks value the stories they put in their top 10 games?

I think something else that sticks with folks is when a story challenges us in some way.  Like, for me, Gabriel Knight's story challenged me because the titular protagonist was not a pleasant person.  But because he was the kind of person who I normally wouldn't associate with, I found myself more intrigued by him because his world view and interactions differ so wildly from mine:

Everyone else seems to die too quickly, though, and like with Nyx, I just don't have ability-enhancing mods to compensate with sheer damage. I don't know when or where I'm supposed to get those from. :/

Playing Warframe kinda means you have to hit the wiki all the time

He's perfectly entitled to his opinion, just as I'm entitled to mine.
Ahh. There's an opinion I can get behind.

And to no one's surprise we're all getting a brand new Legendary to go with that new mode on the 28th (well, okay, most of us are getting a brand new Legendary, the rest are getting a free Aether/Warding Breath/+1 Merge).

Second, third and fourth went to Wharja, Axzura and Hector respectfully (which is unsurprising due to Axzura getting a second chance with a recent Legendary banner versus Wharja's once go-a-round, while Hector just got totally kneecapped by Vector). The rest of the top 30 just goes to show how utterly stupid this vote was since it was completely dominated by seasonals and heavy meta.

Possessed Takumi comes with Fury. Because he's angry.

Actually, no, angry may be the wrong word. I spoiled myself by reading the mined data, and he's mostly confused and sad and says 'The enemy!' only slightly more often than Brave Lyn.

The Fury 3 is not a joke though.

They also gave him Vengeance (which is a joke because he only has 37 HP at Level 40).

That said, Skadi has the potential of being bonkers on slow/clogged maps. Especially since his stat spread gives him effectively 48 Atk and 40 Spd to follow up on the free 10 damage. Pairing him up with Pain+ bombs Azama or Lucius is even more hilarious for AoE damage.

Also, Zonkumi looks like a goddamn Shining Force character (olde skool, though minus the closeted furry, none of that Tony Taka crap).

Edit: Finally sat down and hammered out a winning strategy for the C&A BHeB on Infernal. Turns out all I had to do was pull out all the goddamn stops with Klein, Airzura, +1 Cordelia and +1 Nowi (admittedly Airzura was only level 20-ish and not much of a combatant). Klein drops the Axe Pegasus (its imperative to manipulate the AI into putting the Peg Knight over by the right side so that Klein can fire from relative safety; through clever numbers manipulation I'm able to fool the AI into going after Nowi instead of Cordelia), while having Cordelia and Airzura wait on the other side to come over to support the other side. Turn two has Klein and Cordelia bust up Corrin while making sure that a Def buffed Nowi is now standing in the bottom lefthand corner of the right side so that only the Archer can attack and die to DC. Next turn involves a tag team of Klein softening up the Sword Peg followed by Cody finishing her off followed by Airzura dancing Cody, followed by Cody roughing up the Blue Mage, followed by Galeforce shenanigans ending the Blue Mage. With only Airzura and Cody to attack, Azura tries and fails to drop Cody and the next turn is a wrap. It took two stamina pots and a full bar to figure out the precise sequence of events (and SS distribution) that needed to occur to achieve the desired results.

Now to start grinding the T_T and the Fjorm quests like a motherfucker.

He's perfectly entitled to his opinion, just as I'm entitled to mine. I wish I had a more serious post to offer on finishing the game, but for the most part I feel like I'd just be repeating myself. Instead, I had a little bit of fun... Actually a lot of fun. The criticisms are still there though, and I stand by them, just as I stand by every other criticism I leveled toward the game. I still ended up with 84 hours played, and considering I bailed on Star Ocean 5 after just 10 (a.k.a. the half-way point), it's not like I found the game utterly atrocious. Funnily enough, those three words do a pretty solid job summing up my feelings.

I do want to get to the original, but for now I've got to clear some stuff in my backlog. Unless Dragon Quest XI's release date ends up much closer that I'm thinking, it'll be a while yet before the next big thing comes along, so there's plenty of time.
