We just shot a little promotional movie for an upcoming guild event to recruit new members, and it's basically a few of us doing our thing badly on purpose as a friendly challenge to newcomers. "Think you can do better? Come visit blablabla." Since people find me weirdly approachable (I can walk around with my half-asleep zombie gaze and headphones, and strangers will still aproach me to tell me all about how the government is conspiring against them), I agreed to fuck up some archery. I hadn't shot barebow in ages, so I grabbed the lightest training bow we had and... actually did pretty okay during my warm-up shots. Not good. So then I just kinda stopped aiming and did worse. The plan was to do the third and final arrow a couple of times to get the best worst shot.

That's when everything went perfect/absolutely wrong. I haven't been sleeping well the past couple of weeks. I was tired, I had an headache and I just wanted to be done. Muscle memory took over and I fired. Great, right? Except that muscle memory is relevant to my own bow, which weighs like 2,5kg with stabilisation on it and has a draw weight of ~28 pounds. This was a piece of wood with a string we give to grannies. I overshot the target, the arrow bounced off the wall and with a giggly non-vocal 'oh shit' I turned towards the camera and said my lines and I said them well.

The persoon shooting the little promo was very happy with the result. If the other archers see this, and they will, I won't be able to live this down for a long time.

I do not know how to feel about this.

I'm probably going to lose some more sleep.

There's a recently abandoned Subway restaurant near my apartment. I walk by it on the way home. Almost every single day for the last two weeks or so, there's been this goose standing outside, staring in through the glass front door. Not even acting aggressive or defending something. Just... staring.

Aw, it's the Hachi of Subway!

Went to another convention this weekend, but this one was held in large exhibition halls and focused more on western popculture. It was the first time acting a sales person for the magazine, and it was hard. The sound management throughout the hall was bad, and even back in one of the  vendor areas I was overwhelmed by the amount of sound coming from the event areas. It made it very hard to hear what people were saying.

I want to say the scale of it all was amazing, but frankly, I prefer the more cozy conventions. For instance, I wanted to say hello to some people I know or even work(ed) with, but several of them were locked behind tight signing schedules - tickets available at the counter. These things are less fun when friends are DLC.

I haven't even gotten to the worst thing yet: my own fuck-ups. My facial recognition software is bad. Not 'what are black people?' bad, indiscriminately bad. Usually this is not much of a problem, because contexts and an eye for details give me enough to work with before I get caught being an inconsiderate dumbass. That was not the case this weekend. For what it's worth, I hadn't seen my former editor-in-chief in nearly five years and back in the good old days, I was a freelancer that barely saw the inside of the main office. That said, I'm still going to beat myself up for this for the next decade or two.

Well, Takumi's luck is still working:

That was pretty much my wishlist for this banner. And they're all atleast decent IVs too. Not sure yet what I should do with that Lucina. My current one is better.

Total investment in this banner: 46 orbs. Time to save up for the next one.

I was shopping for new glasses today and ended up in a small independent store in some sidestreet. It looked nice and they had a dog! Couldn't find any frames I liked, so I decided I'd rather have new lenses put into my current ones, which they were happy to arrange, because my current frames are made of one of those flexy titatium alloys and are still in good shape. Then there was some confusion. I looked very familiar to them and they thought I had been there before. They felt bad about forgetting my name! "This is my first time here, but does the name R***** sound familiar?" And they're like: "Yes, it does actually." Apparently they vaguely know my clone/doppelganger/long lost twin/whatever from some place or another.

Or not. Later, I described these people (and their dog) to R and they don't sound familiar to her at all. So I guess there may be more copies. Awkward.

Though I'm surprised you didn't sink a few orbs trying to get Tomato man.

The odds are too bad. It's not that I dislike Eirika, it's just that I don't need that many. I'll give it another shot when he's on a better banner.

Chucked 160 orbs at the new banner and got:
1x Sharena
1x Alfonse

Noteworthy 4 stars:
3x Sothe (one +atk one to build, two disappointments to fodder off)
2x Klein (it's always nice to see him)
2x Soren (both with terrible banes, but hey, finally more merges!)
3x Lukas (I'm not sure why I'd ever need three but if I want to get serious about building one, I now have a +def, -spd one)
4x Niles (uh, Iceberg for everyone?)

Maybe I should see if I have something like a +atk Niles and build one sometime.

Blah, more eggs.. However, Catria looks like a good unit, Kagero has an unique movetype-weapon combo, Sharena exists and Alfonse has some real meme potential, so I'm going to try to get atleast one of them.

Preferably Alfonse, because he makes me laugh.

Xander: Our weapons are!
Reinhardt: Magic!
Camus: Loyalty!
Alfonse: SPOON!

Seriously, it might tick me off if I don't get him.

Kinda happy I got male Morgan despite many people saying he's underwhelming. He can take out Grima with only a little assistance, meaning my original team is often the only team I need on L7. The other teammembers are Cherche (until she maxes HM), a healer (rotating based on who is closests to hitting a HM milestone) and whatever blue tome/lance/bow/dagger unit is closests to getting some HM feathers. Cherche and Morgan do most of the work though.

If you don't use it, you lose it. That goes for about anything but knowing how to ride a bicycle. And well, if you don't really learn in the first place... Yeah, I think there may be more people like that. On the other hand, social awkward people can now make friends more easily thanks to the internet. On the other other hand, end up in the wrong echochamber and you could end up with some very weird ideas.

I don't drive, but I do use public transportation often and the drivers in this area are definitely a bit too comfortable on the road when they only have to share it with a few people. One of my friends from the city came here late in the evening once for a sleepover and was certain the busride here was going to be her last.

Speaking of public transportation, I have a big trip ahead of me because I apparently have to justify myself before the grand council of anime geeks for going against one of them and fighting for volunteer's rights for fair compensation. It's a two hour trip there and the one back may be even longer, because one slight delay means getting stuck at a station for ~55 minutes.

That sad, the whole things is hilarious, because there are so many misconcentions about me on their end. Some of them picture me as a blunt teenager (I'm a blunt adult, thank you very much!), others assume my "twin sister" is me (but my own mother made the same mistake, so I shouldn't be too harsh), and it seems many don't know what I actually do because I don't paste my face on everything. On the up side, the fact that I'm relatively unknown means that they're not aware of who my allies are, meaning they accidently decided on a meeting spot that's not as neutral as they think it is. Soon, they will learn not to underestimate the connections of the most powerful knitting club! (I mean seriously, most of our members are upper echelon geeks - we we can work with more than just literal strings if we want to.)

Nerd politics are entertaining, if nothing else.

(Though I could be in serious trouble despite having good back-up.)

My Elise with Savage Blow 6 was the MVP there. She carefully chipped away at their HP while the dancers and Reinhardt kept her save. Once the enemy was softened up enough, Reinhardt, also supported by the dancers, went in for the kill.

Oh, and I got a male Morgan. He's going to be part of Team buffbot Eirika.

I just realised it took FE Heroes longer to 'make' a Finn than it did my sister. My nephew was born in early November.

Thought that +8 Reinhardt that joined me earlier today was yours. Good to know I was right.

I set Alm (with Falchion upgrade) as my lead. It seemed like the appropriate thing to do. Not to mention that he can smash through nearly anything when he's at full health. I hope people have fun using him.
