Holiday music thread (tis the season)
« on: December 09, 2017, 11:46:20 AM »
Xmas/Holiday music.  Some people love it.  Some people hate it.  So let's spread some holiday musical cheer with our favorite yule-time music.

I was one of the Xmas music haters until my friend Ray did a "Punk Rock Xmas" compilation of wild, weird, wacky, and out there Xmas music.  Here are some of the piece from his compilation that I really like:

"Christmas in Las Vegas" by Richard Cheese https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0nZ1igeAsE

"The Season's Upon Us" by Dropkick Murphys (lyrics kinda NSFW) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gxYZRAowdzc

"Christmas Party" by Dead Milkmen https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4dROKw4maA8

"Happy New Year" by Spike Jones and the City Slickers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_4BrQeTFKo

"Winter Wonderland" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx09UOnQbBQ

"The Night Santa Went Crazy" by Weird Al https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FJU4GrXztE

"Oi to the World" by The Vandals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKk-2Pu2N8g

"My Mother Gave Me a Gun for Christmas" by The Pork Dukes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE4mg88GhHc (That song amuses me, because the bridge where he sings about a Coca Cola ICBM reminds me of the Pepsi missiles in Project A-Ko)

"Xmas has been X'd" by NOFX https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWSYbVqmDGU

"Credit Crunch Christmas" by Toy Dolls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhRfaSebKsI

"Homo Christmas" by Pansy Division (This one is a VERY NSFW song, but hilarious): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoJS_95HWGI

"O Come, O Come Emmanuel" by Bad Religion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLCxbXfyXCo

I enjoy holiday music, but mostly in instrumental form.

I feel that Vince Guaraldi’s "A Charlie Brown Christmas" soundtrack always deserves a shout out whenever holiday music is mentioned. I play it several times each holiday season.
His rendition of O Tennenbaum is almost instantly recognizable:

Trans Siberian Orchestra, with it's progressive metal touch, has put out some pretty good Christmas albums over the last 20 years.
I think the most popular track of theirs is "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw0-nhQeqbc

Also, if you’re down with chip tunes, 8-bit Jesus is pretty good stuff.

"A Toolbox Christmas" deserves an honorable mention. Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like, and it's great.

Really didn't think I would be posting in this thread, but randomly saw the name "Vince Guaraldi" and now have to, once again, tell Frosty that he's a good person with excellent taste.

My Vince Guaraldi station is my most played Pandora station, all year 'round.

My favorite Charlie Brown holiday song by Vince Guaraldi is "Little Birdie" from Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

And here's another fun one: Deck the Halls by Kasio Kristmas (it's instrumental) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga5aX-YsfYM
