Single-Player RPGs / The Next Fire Emblem Thread
« on: March 08, 2018, 02:39:12 AM »
In before yet another Kozaki designed Male/Avatar (but clearly implied to default to Male) Sword Lord (take THAT Leif).

But yeah, the next Nintendo Direct was announced yesterday, set for today, its highly likely that we'll finally get something from that announced FE Switch from that FE Direct last year, but I'll be finishing up my deliveries for the day on the opposite side of town when this goes down, and I really wanted to make the above joke. Link to the offending Direct: (watch it totally have nothing worthwhile, let alone anything about any supposed FE Switches)

Basically, I'm really hoping for a Female Lord this time (or at least a Female Lord that's not incompetent/overshadowed by the male lords; i.e. Lucina if she were an actual Lord instead of an honorary one (outside of certain DLC)), and preferably one sans the crotch window (I'll endure Miniskirts and/or Bicycle Shorts). Basically, I'd like a female FE character to get a Prf that isn't also on her male counterpart and not added to a remake because IntSyst decided to make their dramatic change there (last one was Thani all the way back in FE10). Bonus points if the Lord this time is a Bow or Staff Lord instead of yet another Sword Lord.

Other hopes include it actually being good, and having an artist that isn't Kozaki (he got better with Fates, but I still feel like his designs are too messy and not actually well designed; especially the female stuffs).

And hell, if this does turn out to be a total bust, then I'll repurpose this as a general Megathread (although the Heroes talk can remain in that thread since it'd just bury this one).

Its not even been six months since they announced Sen III and now they're announcing #4. Though it does look and sound like we might be nearing a culmination with this one.

Single-Player RPGs / Zwei: The Arges Adventure
« on: December 01, 2017, 06:52:50 AM »
XSEED is releasing Falcom's 3D Action-RPG Zwei!! for the PC this Winter, retitled as Zwei: The Arges Adventure. Source

Now this is one I've been excited for. It seems to be fairly obscure, even by Falcom standards, but it looks like a fun, quirky game. I'm not sure how the second game compares, but I'm just glad we get to play the first one, even with a title change.

Single-Player RPGs / Secret of Mana: The Remake!
« on: August 25, 2017, 06:26:45 AM »

Adventure of Edit: On second thought. I don't have anybody to play this with anymore.... T_T

At least it means "SD3 Remake and worldwide release when?".

Secret of Edit: Also, I hope that screenshot of English Text doesn't mean that they're staying strictly to the old Woosley Localization, especially if VAing gets involved.

So it came up in the Game Journal that a new Tales of Megathread might be nice, especially considering that we have a barely used Symphonia thread on the front page along with a Beseria thread for the latest game, and neither is a good place to talk about Vesperia, the latest popularity poll results, or the latest Tales of Crossover game.

So discuss your tales of Tales of Whatever, and hell, bring the crossover kids along. God knows we still need to keep talking about Project X Zones 1 & 2, amirite? (Don't answer this.)

I'm going to be so ever loving pissed if this is a mobile title.

And I'm going to hold my composure until I'm certain that they don't do something stupid like give us Bland von Japanese Highschooler McEveryMaleAnimeProtagonist or make it yet another Persona clone.

Single-Player RPGs / Fire Emblem Echoes
« on: January 18, 2017, 07:28:07 PM »

Probably the biggest piece of actual news that came from that FE direct. There's the next remake, and its of Gaiden (figured it'd either be this or 4). Lets hope they actually try to rebalance it this time (or at least design some actual battlefields instead of empty plains), or failing that, leaving it alone enough to let westerners experience the majesty of FE2 Archers and Falcon Knights.

(Kinda disappointed in Celica's redesign. Should've gone with a more yellow pallet.) Edit: renamed the thread while I'm fixing my post.

Yeah, I know right?

Anyways, what exactly was the inspiration for Mara?

So who wanted a new not-Fire Emblem?

(Warning: Was made in SRPGMaker on personal time & dime and is freeware, so don't expect anything fancy (&| terribly stable yet). Also, being a Kaga game, expect Nintendo Hard, minimal Waifu Wars, and excessive amounts of dudes telling women to get back into the kitchen. Also also, something something Japanese something....)

So now its Gust's/Koei-Temco's turn at taking a crack at that Magical Girl JRPG genre that's still criminally underrepresented. Hell, its already better off than Level 5's/Banpresto's/Squeenix's/Compile Factory's attempts by virtue of not being outright skeezy (though I'm not holding my breath on this, especially since it got announced alongside 'Totally-not-Lesbians of Azure 2'), not aimed at the wrong demographic for a serious attempt at this, containing an actual magical girl (well okay, Superheroine Chronicles did have Symphogear and Dream Hunter REM), and/or isn't free-2-play CCG shovelware.

That said, the reason I'm throwing this thread together is that it sounds like Sailor Moon meets Persona and I know that half of RPGAtlusFan loves Persona (it's also billed as an RPG, but that barely means anything these days). I also suspect that there's gonna be a bunch of Madoka Magica-isms (because it's gonna take a Monkey Paw's wish to get anything straighter than that), but hopefully they can keep the Magical Idol bullshit down to a dull roar.

What I will blow a Monkey Paw's wish on is for this to not be yet another VN because those are a dime-a-dozen and boring as shit (and outside of two screenshots, this is unfortunately looking pretty VN-ish).

General Games / E3 2016: E3 2015 was better Edition.
« on: June 06, 2016, 07:52:47 PM »
So we're now within a week of this year's E3. Its time to start posting links, gifs, webms, hopes/expectations/dreams and complaints when nothing you posted doesn't occur.

First, a link to get us started.

Next, expectations. Everybody's doing worse this year (except for EA who cut the line). Bethesda's only got Dishonored 2 and maybe one other game versus their Doom/Fallout 4 combo; Microsoft's no longer front and center as EA's going to cut into their presentation for once, and their big announcement is probably them boning up on their XBone; Ubisoft's probably going Watch Dogs 2 and maybe a new IP, but the goodwill is still gone; Sony 2016 has the toughest act to follow, Sony 2015; and Nintendo's sans Iwata and much of anything beyond Zelda U|NX. (And off in the distance, on a cold dreary night, perhaps you can hear from the depths of one of Konami's sex dungeons, a single videogame developer, the last of his kind, shackled to his janitor's cart, sobbing to himself as he carefully puts the finishing touches on the company's E3 video, which nobody will watch because it'll all be Pachislot trailers for old school Konami properties featuring copious amounts of Sexual Violence.)

And finally, the gifs/webms, will be posted when (re: if) I get around to it.
