Oh..I thought that was just for HP.  Also, is it wise to have 2 samurai and a fighter up front with a mage, priest and lord in back?  I just spent a half-hour rolling a 30 to start a samurai and it seems the only way i go for now..

A few notes now that I've actually cleared 10F.

I take back my original comment about difficulty.  Certain floors are a nightmare where you have to save after every battle.  I love it!  In particular, 5F and 9F of Shiin and 10F in both Shiin and Trials will require reloading. Even ~15 levels over the "average" level of what I would be at the time in 5F, certain enemies still one-hit kill me without Magic Wall.  But then 6F is one of the easiest levels in the game and I had a "what the hell?" moment.

Gear matters more than levels.  Farm on 4F for Dragon Shields, an Odin Sword for a Lord that you should should have, and Holy Mauls for your Bishops and Priests. You'll thank me later.

The Trials DLC makes the leveling balance return a bit.  I mentioned before that it feels like it was cut, and really, that's the only way I can describe it.  It's also one of the only area where there are actually annoying traps and floor design.  Floor design in general in this game is rather weak and easy, other than perhaps the section on 8F where you have ~6 rooms of Anti-Magic Field in a row if you take the wrong teleporter.

It took me ~30 hours finishing all quests and completely remaking my party about halfway through the game to clear 10F of both Trials and Shiin.

Some minor complaints:

The localization gets a bit. . .off on enemy names on the final floors.  One enemy obviously supposed to be named "Reaper" is instead called "Leaper." "Arp" instead of "Alp," among others. You'll also get "Dummy" dialogue if you try and use Tithing with a character who has no money. It's surprisingly clean otherwise.

If you buy the DLC, 5F of trials lags in certain places.  There are certain blocks you stand on without the DLC where there is text, but with the DLC there isn't, and on every one of these blocks you temporarily freeze.

Free Warp is horribly broken. I almost wish they hadn't included it at all.

You will grind. After a point it becomes impossible to hit or damage enemies without powerful weapons, and drop rates are absolutely obnoxious.  You don't grind for levels, you grind for gear. Sometimes I can enjoy a good grind.  The grind in this game is not fun in any way after a point.

I hardly have any new equipment at all, and I'm going to lvl 7 of Shiins.

Drop rates are very broken.

This game just makes me want to go play Tales of the Forsaken Land.

Still no EU PSN release. Boo.

Not sure how it's doing sales wise but the reviews probably haven't helped recruit anyone new to the franchise. Ignoring the actual fun that can be had with an oldschool dungeon crawler and instead marking down for graphics, lack of decent manual and 'outdated' mechanics.

Those that have invested time seem to be singing it's praises, but equally having WTF? moments throughout the game at some of the more unusual quirks (hardest chests to open = generally rubbish loot, insane drop rates, level up = stats drop ^^).

Personally, I'm still looking forward to this immensely. I just wish I'd bought it on my dodgy US PSN account weeks ago rather than wait for the EU release.

Stopped playing this game about half way through as it seemed to be more of a grind fest for loot than a true survival exploratory quest like I prefer.

Is the 2nd DLC worth the purchase, and any idea if the 2nd game is being translated?

Let's hope it's the next PSN Wizardry. (It's great, from what I've played of the JP demo.)

Given the other options I'd consider this one a safe bet. (Unless they really do localize Akiba'strip in which case What The Fuck!?)
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

Decided to man up and take on the Red Shadow of the Sister DLC.

Hardcore stuff.

Neat story tidbits, too. I love the subtle way this game develops its plot. (NPC encounters in dungeons primarily, much like TotFL.)

Footsteps and retreating shadows, that kind of thing.

Just wish there was dungeon BGM, but ah well. The ambient sounds work.

Hmmm, XSEED's forums now seem to be replaced by a site selling me viagra. Either they've been hacked, have domain issues... or I'm being targeted specifically by dodgy pharma companies :(

It was a hack. They're working on it, but they said Wizardry's more important to them at the moment.
(We can only hope.)

So yeah, I'm spearheading a pseudo-kickstarter to get us the sequel localized.

If anyone who enjoyed the game or dungeon crawlers in general wants to help us out, it sure couldn't hurt.

This may end badly. It may be a hilarious failure.

But I'll be damned if I won't put forth an effort.

TL;DR: buy the game, and if you bought the game, buy the $4.99 Red Shadow of the Sister DLC.

Is this also built off of the Class of Heros engine? I don't really like that engine at all. I loved the Dungeon layout of the PS2 Wizardry, felt like you were actually exploring something unlike the random rooms of the class of heros games.

It's more similar to CoH than Tale of the Forsaken Land, sadly, but there were elements of greatness in the original, like the areas with drastically different lighting.

The dungeons aren't randomized, though. They're preset.

I think it was their first try at it, so they couldn't do all that much(which is sad that a PS3 title can't match a PS2 one).

That said, the sequel looks to be a vast improvement in every way, and a lot more like the PS2 game in tone. It takes place in a ruined village, much like TotFL.
