Brush and Quill / Broadcast - My New Novel
« on: October 05, 2011, 06:03:57 AM »
Hi all! It's been a long time since I posted any creative stuff here! I've completed a writing degree and a writing masters since the last time, so I've started taking it (probably too) seriously. Anyway, I won't deny that this post is pretty shameless self-promotion. I hope it doesn't breach any forum rules.

Having finished my degrees, I've written a novel, and I'm currently sending it off to agents and publishers. So in support of that, I'm basically trying to drum up a bit of interest online/a parade of largely meaningless views and likes on various websites.

I've made a trailer for the book, which can be found here: It's very basic because I have no know-how whatsoever in making videos!

I've also started a web page for it, which is here: Again, quite basic and work in progress at the moment. There's a link there to read the first chapter of the book.

And lastly, the whole thing is available for purchase on the Kindle, if you're that way inclined. That can be found here:

If people would be kind enough to look, comment, or click 'Like' where it's relevant, I'd really appreciate it :) Thanks for your time. Sorry if this breaks any forum rules.

Hey, how's it going? It's been a while.

There's been no major trouble near me, just a few cars on fire and a smashed up McDonalds. One of the major fires in Croydon was reasonably nearby and we had the smoke blowing over. I just really hope last night was the worst of it.

Nuri, there's some rioting happening a few roads over from me at the moment. Pretty scary stuff.

Hey. How is everyone?

Sunshine's good until it turns into a dodgy slasher at the end. It throws its intelligence out the window, in my opinion.

Neal, you're pretty.

I also saw Shutter Island. I pretty much agree with you Nuri, interesting and atmospheric, but hardly Scorsese's best. It kind of makes me wish he'd make some kind of war film; the Holocaust parts were beautifully shot.

And yeah, the ending. I didn't see it coming, maybe because it was so damn obvious. That was the weakest part of the film for me. The whole reveal could have been done in half the time.

I saw A Single Man. It succeeded in being extremely artsy, understated, and moving, all at the same time.

Jeez Neal, you're looking svelte!

LaBrie just can't handle Bruce Dickensen or Dio though.

Kind of scary to think that he was going to be Dickinson's replacement at one point before Blaze joined.

You look pretty happy about the easyshare camera :P

Me at new years:

Before you ask, Neal, no I didn't :P

I haven't seen Avatar yet, but I'm very interested in seeing it. As far as scripts go though...James Cameron always had a very "plain" style of writing IMO, for lack of a better word. I don't think a lot of people are going to walk into this expecting amazing writing. How does this compare to other James Cameron films?

At least if his sequels are anything to go by Avatars 2: Judgment Grey should be epic.

That or he can finally get around to making that Battle Angel Alita movie (unless he's got more waters to test).

Apparently Battle Angel Alita is a year into development, so it looks like it's happening.

I'd say The Machinist's worth seeing. Not necessarily because it's a great film, but it's certainly an interesting one.
