Saga Frontier and Romancing Saga are divided into half a dozen stories each, so you could play one or two beginner friendly scenario's, play something else and then go back to your Saga game of choice again. I think that's what I would do.

If you're going with Saga Frontier first, whatever you do, do not play Lute's scenario first. If I recall correctly, Amelia's and Red's stories are goed places to start.

Finishing up the extra stuff in .Hack//Mutation before moving on to Outbreak

- I forgot how absolutely infuriating the Flag Races can be. Took me 35 tries to take first place, Even though I'd constantly get 20.2 - 20.5 seconds. And that was just the Theta server.

- I did actually notice something I somewhat missed the first few times I played through these games. The quotes the game takes out of .Hack//SIGN for the Memory items all seem to be quotes that foreshadow the events of the games, so that's a kind of neat little tie-in.

- I've always hated that the game is designed so that the harder the bosses get the longer the dungeons are leading up to them. And with no alternative save points besides the one in town, it makes for a really annoying death penalty. Thankfully, with the game's economy death is a matter of making a really stupid mistake or being *severely* underequipped.

I don't know about SaGa Frontier 1, but you probably won't "grind" your way through 2. That game hates grinding and don't count on given a surplus of opportunities to do so. This might or might not be a bad thing. I have a weird relationship with this game and to this day I'm not sure if I actually liked it or not.

Saga Frontier 2 was definitely aural and visual porn, but the gameplay could have certainly been better, and I hated the points of no return towards the end. I got stuck having to fight the final boss with only about one life point per character, having expended them all during fights against previous bosses in the final dungeon. I did manage to beat the game twice in two different playthroughs despite having made that particular mistake.

Been playing some Dota 2 recently, because I apparently hate myself and love to waste my free time. Its a great game but lets be honest, it usually takes about 40 minutes to play a single round and more often than not you'll have to put up with abuse and complaining (directed at you, someone on the server or humanity in general) in a language you may or may not understand.

You are sort of complaining about MOBAs being MOBAs... the games are supposed to be that kind of addictive and the communities to be weird for normal people's standards.

I've never considered myself a casual gamer but I'm starting to warm up to the idea. Who knows, maybe I'll even enjoy my imminent revisit to Final Corridor Fantasy XIII.

I bet you never even bothered to go for the Platinum trophy. Is a laborious task and not all that easy, but is a blast compared to go and do all side quests in FFX.

Though, I've always wondered if FFIX gets a remake in the future, SQEX goes and puts an achievement/trophy for doing the 1000 jumps in the Jump Rope minigame in Alexandria. That as a fan of FFIX would be the death of me.

Errrr... I know me and Star are LoL players.
I'm pretty sure that neither of us are pedophiles.
I've always had a very healthy weight and I've never been told that I stink.
I don't think I've ever shoved Naruto in someone's face.
My keyboard is clean and I'd be shocked if any of my cum was in it (or even worse, not mine)
I sadly can't debate the waifu part on my account though =(

tl:dr
Generalization sucks

Don't sweat it, Annubis. I don't like generalizations either. I was only giving an extreme example.

Yggdrasil, that was a parody post if you didn't know.(the one about cum encrusted keyboards and whatnot).

Been slowing working through Star Ocean First Departure, the most average and formulaic RPG I have ever played(still somewhat fun).

Also Castlevania Chronicles on an off, I'm halfway through the game and it's getting really hard.

I'm on week 12 in TLoU Factions (multiplayer) as a hunter. These are gonna be the last couple of matches for me before taking care of the small backlog I have.

Yggdrasil, that was a parody post if you didn't know.(the one about cum encrusted keyboards and whatnot).

I know. But as much as that post is a parody, part of the description is giving is closer to other people I've seen/met/heard about before.

I don't know about the cum-encrusted keyboards though. ._.'

Got Divinity: Original Sin today. I may have bit off more than I can chew with this one. Been a long time since I've dabbled with this type of game.
Currently playing: .

Almost done with Ark of Napishtim (waaaaaay shorter than I expected for a home console title, but I guess hoping for anything longer than 15-20 hours out of Ys is being unrealistic).  So after I'm done I'm not sure where to move on to next... I'll either play Dragon Warrior VII and Dragon Quest VIII or grind my way through SaGa Frontier 1 and 2 and then Romancing SaGa and Unlimited SaGa.  All 6 have been sitting around gathering dust for 6 or 7 years at least and I'd like to knock out an entire series worth of titles at a time if I could.  I'm a complete noob to both,   and I have no issues with slogging my way through a dreadful game, any suggestions on which route I should take?

Those are probably the most extreme opposites of the JRPG spectrum you just listed.

Dragon Quest games are known for being incredibly straight forward with its mechanics and encourages grinding when a problem comes along, whereas the SaGa series in general is known for being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse and grinding is the most effective way to screw your self over.

Things to know about these games:
- DQVII: Don't bother with Monster Classes and make sure your MC and a kid named Gabo are set on the path to Godhand (or if you're feeling ambitious, set Gabo up as a Sage or Teen Idol). To get Godhand, you have to start with the mastery of the Warrior, Fighter and Cleric classes for the Dragoon and Paladin classes which you then need to master in order to become a Godhand; and coincidentally once you're finished with that class you can go straight into the Hero class. This should take either of them approximately 130 + 160 + 180 + 200 + 240 + 240 + 200 (tl;dr 1350) battles to complete which should roughly be the number of encounters between Dharma Temple (at the game's 1/3rd mark) to the final dungeon. Also watch out for the area involving a group known as the Deja Tribe as their region is home to a dungeon that can only be traversed through once and a missable but plot important item is located in that dungeon (their region is the one right before Dharma Temple's region).
- DQVIII: Don't bother with Fisticuffs. The MC should spend his skill points on Swords and Courage skill sets and enough into Lances to at least get the Thunder (or preferably Lightning) Thrust. Yangus should focus entirely on either the Axes or Scythes skills, don't ever bother with Clubs; if he goes for Scythes make sure he gets Hatchet Man from Axes (though Executioner is better) and Humanitarian is at least worth a couple of points for Healmore and possibly Sacrifice. Jessica should only ever focus on her Whips and Staffs skills, Knives are garbage and Sex Appeal is overrated; note if you take Whips as the priority and bother with the second Casino, Jessica will wind up having the highest damage output of the party, however, maxing out Staffs is necessary for her to learn the Kazing spell which is probably the best spell in the game. Angelo can either buff his Swords skill for better damage output, Bows for sticking an MP battery on your team healer (this is amazing by the way), Staffs for more spells, or Charisma for other things but he should only focus on one of them.
- SaGa in general: Seriously, don't grind. In fact, I'd go straight to GameFUQs before anything else. Also don't be afraid to play through them multiple times, its pretty much the only way to enjoy them.
- SGF 2: Not covering 1 due to not having a spare memory card on hand to play through it with. I'd either suggest playing two to three Wil Knights scenarios to every Gustav scenario since Wil's story takes longer than Gustav's or play chronologically since Gustav's plot has a much greater focus on the game's political landscape.
- USG: I used to have a link to a bunch of Youtube tutorials on how to actually play the game, but I seem to have misplaced it. It might be in the Youtube thread but I'm too lazy to bother checking.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

Platinum? I never even bothered to beat the game. That's why I'm even considering a revisit in the first place :)

- USG: I used to have a link to a bunch of Youtube tutorials on how to actually play the game, but I seem to have misplaced it. It might be in the Youtube thread but I'm too lazy to bother checking.

Just give everyone axes until you spark reverse delta and then use reverse delta on everything, basically. Magic and unarmed are useful if you want to go that route. And make sure all your armor has Life Protection (it usually grows this if you have it equipped for awhile).

wrt SGF1 just try to kill the bosses as quickly as possible, however possible. They tend to have really bad attacks that trigger after a few turns, so don't go for drawn out slogs. SGF1's not really that hard unless you're playing extensively with monsters in which case it's really hard. And Lute's quest is basically sandbox mode.

WRT DQ7, it's a game I like a lot but it's better in small doses, and it's pretty episodic so it kind of works towards this anyway.

Also what's the missable plot item in the Deja Tribe dungeon thing?

--- edit ---

I forgot if I mentioned this here, because my mind's sort of fried and I can't remember jack shit right now, but this is a problem I've been having with gaming in general lately.

Been playing a lot of shmups recently, and some of the advice for getting better I see is that you should go watch replays of really good players playing the game, and try to repeat what they do.

Which makes me think that shmups are just... solved problems, and the entire gameplay experience there is trying to adhere to a gold standard as closely as possible, and being graded on how close you made it to that standard.

That's also what I got out of Trails in the Sky, though -- the game's quests told you exactly what to do, you'd do it, and... it just felt very tasky and homeworkish.

--- edit 2---

http://www.gog.com/game/cosmos_cosmic_adventure I sort of want this but I doubt it holds up well :T Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure is pretty much the first PC game I recall playing though.
