I actually would prefer them to leave the voices the way they are.

I'm so used to them at this point, it would seem weird having new ones.

It took me three bloody weeks to get an English copy of Shenmue in Hong Kong.

I'm hoping it doesn't take that long for this.

As an aside, was the Langrisser on 3DS  any good? I've seen it for sale a few times and thought about picking it up.

If I haven't played any others in the series, will I be totally lost?

I checked the front page first :P

Kadokawa games making them

The games are being fully remade, from graphics to systems, and optimized to be easier to play for newcomers. Character designs are completely new, the scenario is fully voiced, and the UI is being optimized. Battles also have cut-ins, and new elements not included in the original games will be added.

Full reveal on the 29th

They said "this winter" so who knows when that is and when the NA release date will be.

Another day, another chapter.

Cleared Ophilia's Chapter 2 twice (once to advance the story and again to see all the party skits; although I still need to see Alfin's take).

You can play the chapters more than once?

Did a search. Didn't see a topic.

Anyone buying it?

I'm playing right now!

If Tyranny comes out on console, I'll play it.

In the meantime I am almost done playing Pillars. It's been great.

Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy 16 (survey)

I'd like to see another single-player traditional (read: medieval type) fantasy installment with knights, castles, and flowing robes.  And like MonCapitan, I'd like to see realistically proportioned characters rather than chibis.

I tend to prefer games that are more character/story driven (I'm not big into dungeon crawls) and don't have overly complicated or arbitrary-feeling gameplay elements (the License Board in FF12 felt totally tacked on.)

Speaking of characters, I'd prefer to see a character designer other than Tetsuya Nomura or Yoshitaka Amano.  No pretty boys with belt and zipper fetishes.  No characters who look like they're deathly ill from malnutrition, drug overdoses, or both.  Someone different to inject a fresh vibrancy into the art.

I'd like to see a return of that happy medium between corridor linear and total open world- that traditional RPG type world with an overworld, towns, and dungeons.

I'm a turn-based traditionalist and think that FFX had the absolute best battle system in the entire series and am surprised it wasn't used again.

Another element I'm surprised hasn't really been used much was the ATEs from FF9.  Similar to Star Ocean's Private Actions, I loved how triggering those would show insight into what the others in the party were doing around town.  Because realistically, they would scatter and do stuff and not just follow the leader like sheep.  One of my favorite scenes in FF9 was when Zidane goes into an armor shop and comments "What a cheesy suit of armor.  Who would buy this crap?"  Then later on in an ATE, Steiner goes into that same shop and comments on what a fine suit of armor it is.

My biggest problem with modern JRPGs is that the menu interfaces look stylish but are not ergonomically functional.  Menu navigation is more convoluted than need be and fonts are always minuscule.  Why is there never an option to increase the font sizes in menus and dialogue boxes?  Give me clean, simple menu layouts and large legible fonts.

And to +1 MonCapitan again, no microtransactions.  I miss the good ol' days when I usually got the full game right out of the box.

You summed up everything I came here to write.

And I still maintain there hasn't been a good FF game since FF X.

FF 13 was the closest. It had a great battle system but the story was just kind of meh.

Single-Player RPGs / Pillars of Eternity or Torment Tides of Numenera?
« on: December 29, 2017, 01:47:38 AM »
I got both for Christmas, and I know both are going to be a massive time sink.

Any recommendations?

I went back and watched the Phantom Menace to get the taste of Episode 8 out of my mouth.

Won't be watching Episode 9.

Star Wars.

Utter fucking garbage.

So much pointless, wasted plot in that movie.

They haven't talked about it since, so I guess no one is playing it?

I really like the Untold games. I'm wondering if the remake of EO3 is going to come to the 3DS or the Switch though.

Hong Kong is dirty, but it has a cool vibe that I like.

I'm going to see a friend in Macau during the Xmas holidays. What did you do there besides gamble?
