And speaking of Isekai, I recently picked up Vision of Escaflowne (TV series) so I have a reason to trip report here again.

As far as the first episode is concerned, its already better than the OVA (in that Hitomi isn't manic depressive (yet...?)). Also, more people are in on the whole 'getting beamed up to an alternate world' which is a bit better than normal Isekais from the long, forgotten era of 1996 (christ, this can't already be 22 years old).

@Kevadu Where is your long post about the GPD? I can't find it!

Scroll down man ;)

It's not exactly a game so I wasn't sure where to put it and just ended up putting in General Discussions.

^ thanks Jimmy. That's exactly what I was going to recommend.  It has always confused me why people queue up to pay for material when they can just as easily get it for free.

People don't really know Overdrive is out there for some reason. It's kind of like the best kept secret for book lovers. I guess I can't blame people for not thinking about the library. I didn't think about it until I was living in New York, mainly because the library in the town where I grew up was just sad.

I'm going to try this.

It's not splitting the community, it's just growing it.  Discord is better then the forums, it allows more people to join and quicker.  That's the way it is, the reason it seems disorganized to you is because more people are talking there then have in years here.  If there was actually people posting here then you would be saying the same thing about the forums.  And yes many people hate the forums as well because you have to sign up for it and then do the whole email thing, where most gamers already have a discord account and use it for multiple communities.

Discord is new, it's here to stay if you want to be a grandpa and not try something new because "I grew up with this and won't try anything new" then so be it.  I have 1820 posts on this forum, 1800 of them are in the administration side for News, which even we stopped using 2 years ago.  I love talking to the fans of the site but I never posted here.  I post all the time on Discord,  its just way more convenient and fun.

Edit: And no I wasn't making anything up here, we took a survey from the readers this was there response and yes so many people didn't like the forums but suggested something else -

Called it.

The forums started going downhill in terms of activity a long time ago, I get it. But Discord can't replicate or even emulate the forums' functionality, and I don't understand why there weren't other options to pursue than Discord that would have been more capable of recreating the forums' functionality. What I like about the forums is they encourage sustained conversation, are typically less chatty, and allow division into topics so that multiple conversations can be sustained at the same time on various topics, like Single-Player RPGs for example. If I want to talk Fire Emblem on Discord, I'd have to jump into an already active conversation about another game (or something else entirely) rather than have the ability to start a new topic, or join one already in place. Sure, you can jump in and try to change the thread of the conversation on Discord (and possibly have little success in doing so), but I'd much rather have the option to jump from one topic to the next as in the forums. Per the news story you linked (which I did read back in October btw): "That said, it's officially an item on our roadmap to try and integrate the forums better, since even something as simple as a "popular on the forums" widget will bring more attention to the community." What happened to that? And it's clear by the other posts here that there's more than a few "grandpas" who don't like Discord, and prefer the forums, so I can't see why you'd call it anything but splitting the community, especially when a number of longtime, respected members of the RPGFan community, like Neal, say they prefer the forums.

I agree with this. Discord discussions kinda feel like drive-by posts that can be easily derail the current conversation. One minute I'm talking about Final Fantasy 9, the very next second I'm somehow talking about music in Wild Arms.

I started the beginning of the year by finishing Dragon Quest VII Fragments of the Forgotten Past after a really long hiatus which I purchased all the way back in 2016. I got a bit lost at what to do just before you get the magic carpet and recruit another character. Getting back to it I really started to enjoy the game on my second attempt thanks in large part thanks to the intermediate and advanced classes I unlocked as well as the stories experienced in the new islands. Having finished the game I can say it was a solid entry in the series.

Not the first time I beat these two but I did complete Fire Emblem Fates Revelation and Echoes on classic this time. Turn wheel was a real life saver.

It's next season time again.

Anime serie:
Annubis' Isekai corner

Overlord III
Plot: High
Uniqueness: High
Wish fulfillment Toxicity: Low
Ero: Low

Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu
Plot: Mid
Uniqueness: Low
Wish fulfillment Toxicity: Mid
Ero: High

Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria
Plot: Low
Uniqueness: Low
Wish fulfillment Toxicity: High
Ero: Mid

Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3
Nothing much to say other than if you survived season 2, you'll likely watch this.

Gintama. Gin no Tamashii-hen 2nd Season
It's more Gintama

FLCL Progressive
The awaited FLCL sequel. Will it be good or will it be shit? Nobody knows.

Akkun to Kanojo
Please don't watch this.

Happy Sugar Life
Maybe watch this... but shit's fucked yo (and it involves kids).
Whenever something's title sounds too happy, you know it ain't gonna be pretty.

Fate/Extra: Last Encore - Irusterias Tendouron
*waves hand* These are not the Fate you are looking for.

Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro
Apparently a lot of people find this hilarious, but I just don't get it.
At worst check one episode and see yourself.

Jashin-chan Dropkick
Kinda gag serie whose joke runs flat really quickly.
Re-watch Monster Musume for the top snek instead.

Free! Dive to the Future
Do you like yaoi?

High Score Girl
Stay away from the girl! (and by that I mean this serie)

Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki
Some kind of hardcore samurai war story.
Color me intrigued. I feel it's been a while since we had one of those (that was good).

Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa
This is a show about a side character from Kaiji.
I really love Kaiji but mostly because of Kaiji.
I'm willing to give this a try but I just can't see how Tonegawa would be interesting.

Planet With
Mecha anime by the creator of "Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer" (good).

Boku no Hero Academia 3rd Season
Steins;Gate 0
Gundam Build Divers
Persona 5 the Animation

Anime movies:

Mirai no Mirai
Pretty much the only thing worth talking about.
Could be pretty big.

Digimon movies...
For a while I said these were OK, but not anymore.
The plot can't seem to go anywhere and the last batch was pure shit.

Anime specials:

Dragon Ball Heroes
Well, this will be interesting. Dragon Ball Heroes is its own thing but it gets to have an animation now.
This is going to be DB fanservice galore.

@ScottC I am definitely around more than 25% of the time. RUDE!

@Kevadu I think you hit the nail on the head for how I see it. I just want to offer people an alternative. I've been on this forum for 10 years now. I joined when I was a teen and through my posting here got to become a member of staff 7 years ago. I made most of my online friends here, and it was making me sad that as time was moving on, people were coming to our forums less and less.

We held a survey and our readers said they didn't like using forums any more. I can't FORCE people to like it, but I did want to keep our community together, so I thought Discord was a great idea and I really went through a lot of trouble to make it successful. In the beginning I was staying up to 5am my time and getting up to work at 7am. I put thought into how could I ease peoples fears of it being a replacement by purposefully engineering the channels to be a different beast entirely.

Anyway, those are just my thoughts. I just wanted to make it clear I NEVER wanted to hurt the forums. And to prove my street cred, here:

I have spent the most time on these forums than ANYONE.
