Dammit Japan, anthropomorphic animal thingies do not need to be in every game.

I highly recommend doing the sidequests in Frontier Village to learn more about the Nopons.  They
aren't just mascots but a race of individuals.

Personally, I love Riki for the fact that he's a funny character and can be really strong as well.
I'd use him more than Sharla if he had more healing spells.

The Monster System seems solid too with lots of variety in terms of stats and abilities, looks like it can get pretty addicting.

That new video look amazing!  Just watching the chocobo get mad..

They said Chocobos can be one of your party monsters, yeah. I don't think we had ANY monster party members in the E3 demo.

Thanks!  I love it.  Chocos rule.

I've just started it... finished Eldin, but so far I'm REALLY happy with the motion controls and overall aesthetic.  I'm a long time Zelda fan but didn't like TP at all, mostly because the Wii controls were really wonky for me.  I like that the overall world is bright like WW but the enemies have the dark side.  I haven't read the spoilers but that's how they seem so far.

For anyone who's played it or watched all the clips.. Can you recruit chocobos to your party and if so, are they very useful?

I've had it for a week.  I've got the PS3 version and you don't need Move.  A regular controller works fine.

Anyone who liked Frontier will dig Tides of Destiny as well.

There are some good changes and some bad changes but overall it's great.

The good: I love the island exploration and the quests.  The farming is much easier and less time consuming, which is great IMHO.  You can farm all crops as long as you have tamed the monster that plants them, no matter what the season.  You can farm minerals, crystals and gems.  Overall, it's more difficult in terms of the combat and getting to the final floor of the dungeons.

The bad:  Despite liking the overall difficulty, some of the attacks are cheap.  Sometimes it's not obvious how to advance the story.  You can't ride monsters or bring them into town but can fight with three at a time.  The combat controls aren't as good as Frontier though.

I think Emizel's voice is well done, portraying a bratty child.

Do you know who the VA is?

I though "Beat" in Eternal Sonata by Mona Marshall was fantastic with the bratty little boy role.. even though she's a middle age woman.  Awesome career:

So my question is should I just jump right in here when it comes out or play some priors in the series first? That is, are they standalone titles? If so whats worth my time and what is not? Anyone who could provide me some insight would be much appreciated :) Thanks

It looks like they're mostly stand-alones but with some characters from Frontier making a comeback in Tides of Destiny.   You might get a little burned out playing both one right after the other, but Frontier is worth getting.

Somehow, I think the whole "tame monsters to fight with you" mechanic reminds me of how awful and stupid Tales of Symphonia 2 was with it.

I loved it in Final Fantasy Tactics and Rune Factory Frontier, so I'm all for taming monsters.  Actually, in FFT - WOTL, Chocobos were a huge help in some boss battles. I took them into practically all boss battles.

The game has a pretty crappy drop rate so them addressing that is pretty nice.

Agreed.  I'd use easy mode if they made it available.  It's not so much a matter of the game being too hard as it is too time consuming.  Since people who grew up with the series still want to play it, making it more convenient to people with less spare time would be great.

I can't keep track of time while playing any FF game or any RPG for that matter, but I know some of the boss batters were really long and took forever to stagger even when you had a good strategy.

I've never given the two Baten Kaitos games a chance.  Whats everyone's opinions on both games?

I liked them a lot.  While it's not my first consideration in games, the graphic are amazing.  I disagree about the characters being bland.  Some come out of central casting but others are really creative.. like Mizuti from the first game:

The biggest difference in the battle mechanics are that in the first game you have seperate decks of cards for each character, but in Origins they share a deck.  It's not a huge deal IMHO.

The stories are rather mature and deal with some very adult themes.  Some of the sidequests are a true pain in the ass, and there's one concerning a school that I never figured out.

Will Vanille ever use Death on her own or do I have to control her myself? She has it, but I've never seen her use it.

You have to control her yourself.  I don't think I've ever experienced her using death while not controlling her.

Yes! I have no idea how I beat him. I couldn't make any good strategies, the internet was a t a loss, even Odin didn't help me in the slightest. In the end I won due to sheer luck. And this was a after maxing out Lightning and Hope's stats.

This might help for next time.  It can change its elemental weakness.. hmm, that's weird.

Anyway, when you get to Gran Pulse, the Death spell frequently works on the Adamantoise family but call Hecontoncheir as the first thing Vanille does.  Make sure she has haste and then spam death.  It will work I'd guess 25% of the time.   So save before you fight them.  Its worth it for the leveling up and spoils.

What about that one plant dude in FFXIII? Even after maxxing out stats for Lightning and Hope, it still took me way too many tries.

The one in the Titan's Trials?  I think it's an Ochu and it calls its little friends during the fight.  Yep, I haven't even gone back (yet) and tried to beat him after getting game over a few times.
