Konami planning Zone of the Enders Premium Event (http://andriasang.com/con0v5/zoe_hd_event/)

"Zone of the Enders HD Night Fastest in the Universe ReBOOT Preview will take place at Shinjuku's Wald 9 theater on May 25 from 18:30 to 21:00. Konami previously only said that attendees for the paid event would get to see talk sessions between the staff and voice cast, a special live performance, and see the latest ZOE footage.

Konami also announced that the event will also have a playable corner and goods corners."

Zone of the Enders HD Collection takes flight this fall:

Man, that Premium Package that Japan is gonna get is beyond awesome. They are also gonna sell the anime series on Blu-ray... I'M SO JEALOUS OF YOU JAPAN! ;_;

You missed the, by far, most important bit.

The news were posted after I made the thread and I made this thread because of the event on Japan. Anyway, it was pretty obvious that the entire point of rebooting the franchise with the HD Collection was to see if there was enough interest from fans for a sequel.

I remember that all of this started in 2007 with this image (http://www.anaitgames.com/wp-content/zoe3-scan.jpg). Funny how this series started as "that mecha game with the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo" and now plenty of people can't wait for ZOE3.

Honestly, I don't even care if they can't pull off a good game, so long as it comes out over here. It's been ages since I've played a fast-paced Mecha game - they're all stuck in Japan. =(

Z.O.E. 3 is in good hands, we just have to wait a little bit more and cross our fingers that it will be better than The 2nd Runner.

Been reading the thread they made on neogaf. So far so good, but this part I didn't like all that much...

"Nothing else has been decided at this time, but they are exploring all possible avenues to proceed with development of this project. Kojima says that they will be retaining the aspects which make ZoE what it is, including the anime taste mecha action, as well as story concepts like the Metatron. The difference this time is that they are going for a more fantasy style art design, instead of a futuristic one."

The thing is, Zone of the Enders was moving in that direction from the start. The first one was pure science fiction where Metatron is just a powersource. The second one moved towards fantasy with all that stuff that pops up about the Metatron. It's not really that strange.

Especially since traditionally Metatron refers to the angel that serves as the voice of God. I always thought it was weird that they named it that and didn't do anything with it.

ZOE2 HD runs as follows:
- Sometimes solid 60 fps
- most times solid 30 fps (notably, Auuman crevasse massive battle)
- Sometimes as slow as the PS2 version (most notably, Anubis space battle)
- Never actually worse than the PS2 version.

This makes me sad... I mean there isn't much added at all in this port and the only appeal being better FPS didn't deliver at all.
Numerous dust, smoke and light effects also seem to be missing in the game.
Also 1-2 really long loading times.

I'm a giant fan of ZoE2, but even I am debating if I really want to support a lazy port =/

Sounds mostly like a decent port to me but nothing to get excited about.

This collection isn't being made by Bluepoint Games like the MGS, Team ICO and God of War Collections right? Is kinda odd that Konami or Kojima Productions didn't work with them again after the good work they did with MGS2 and 3 (I understand that Peace Walker HD was made internally at Kojima Productions).

I rented the first ZOE and had a lot of fun with it...and then promptly forgot about its existence for several years.  I look forward to playing it again and to playing 2.  That said, I was planning on waiting a couple of months to buy it, but I will have to make other arrangements now that I've seen the collector's edition.  I'm a sucker for art books.

More than anything they did a nice job on the look of that audio CD. It looks awesome, like when you'd see a data disk or somesuch in a game made in the 90s.

Kind of frustrating, the game WILL slow down at lower FPS so it's not simply a matter of looking nicer, and the 360 doesn't have pressure sensitive buttons. But maybe they didn't bother keeping that functionality in the PS3 version, in which case the choice would be easier, even though I would prefer it on the PS3. But it sounds less like bad porting and more the hardware failing to keep up in certain areas relative to the PS2's specs, so in HD it'd end up running slower more frequently.

You'll never see the FPS difference for real on a Youtube video, those are capped at 30. It's also why people want 60 FPS rather than even higher unless they have a 120 hz monitor, you simply can't  show a >60FPS on a TV or typical LCD monitor.

For PS3 owners:  Any glitches?  I've been seeing some reviews on Amazon talking about major slowdown and even crashes mid-game, in 2 in particular.  Some have even refused to play it without a patch.  But maybe they're just whiny.

For those who got the special edition:  How are the art book and the soundtrack?  Are they worth the extra $20?  (Well, $40 now, technically....)

Post by: Cyril on November 06, 2012, 08:35:45 AM
I haven't encountered any glitches, but there are FPS drops and, in general, the FPS is lower than the original release.  Supposedly the patch speeds it up "some," but I've not downloaded it and can't confirm or deny.

The artbook is quite nice, especially compared to other artbooks in major game releases.  The CD "Soundtrack" is 10 tracks, and they're all remixed.  That Beyond the Bound Remix though...mmm!

Post by: Cyril on November 09, 2012, 01:29:17 AM
So, I found the graphical errors some people were talking about, and, as stated above, they're mostly in ZoE2.  The background has some annoying seams and breaks, but, more importantly, there's one area in the game where the faces/eyes/noses on the animated faces are just big black boxes. I've encountered some bad slowdown a few times too, in both games, and ZoE2 runs generally much slower than the PS2 version.

It's not a horrible port by any means, and not nearly as bad as SH:HD, but I think it is worth mentioning that the problems are there.

Meanwhile, bad news:

. . .but it has also put a halt to the Enders’s Project which was announced last year as a Zone of the Enders sequel. The entire team behind the project has been dismantled, as Kojima would like to re-evaluate the franchise before moving forward, he says. Furthermore, he also wants to re-evaluate fans by asking once more, whether they would still like to see a Zone of the Enders sequel.

The patch is enough, that re-release probably won't come to the USA anyway.

Mind, this is assuming you have a PS3 copy. If you have a 360 copy you'll need to get the PS3 one and get that patched up.

Edit: So it turns out that the patch didn't fixed the original ZOE when patch was first released. Probably by now though ZOE must be patched and ready to go along with The 2nd Runner.

Zone of the Enders: how Konami remade its own HD remake (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-how-konami-remade-zoe-hd-remaster) -- Source: Eurogamer / Digital Foundry

"What makes this situation unique is the shift in development duties from High Voltage Software to the Japanese studio HexaDrive - a small company formed by a number of ex-Capcom R&D employees. Previously responsible for the HD releases of Rez and Okami, HexaDrive was challenged with fixing a codebase which had passed through multiple teams across multiple platforms in two different countries. However, the improvement is dramatic thanks to the development of an entirely new renderer designed to take full advantage of the PlayStation 3 which gives the Kojima fanbase the respect it deserves - up to a point. Owing to budgetary issues, only Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner received this treatment and even then it's only the PS3 version that benefits - the Xbox 360 game was not updated, and the original ZOE remains untouched on both platforms."

"The original Zone of the Enders remains unpatched on both consoles, but generally it is much more playable than its accompanying ZOE2 release. Even on PS3, the game manages to hit 60fps fairly regularly only suffering dips in the presence of heavy alpha effects. While the visuals aren't completely faithful to the original game, it's still reasonably playable without the patch on both platforms."

Too bad we don't get the re-release here though.
I should start checking bargain bins for this. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

Unless you can't use the internet with your PS3 it's just a minor convenience (and future proofing) to get it on disc. Just hunt down the PS3 collection and patch it up.
