Title: Awesome deals - 2018 version - Save money for that Vive
Post by: Annubis on June 21, 2013, 04:53:17 PM
Last thread is from years past, so here's for this year.

http://www.ftlgame.com/
FTL is 2.49$ for the next 16 hours.

I have heard it's a great game. For 2.49$, I'm willing to give it a try.

EDIT: You can download DRM free and redeem a Steam key. Best of both worlds.

Talk about missing the forest for the trees. (http://www.gog.com/)

I think I'll grab Fez and King of Dragon Pass. I actually got Fez for 360, but I always intended to rebuy on PC for cheap, I can use the PS3 controller on PC for a half decent D-Pad, and I'm put off by Microsoft anyway.

Don't know why I didn't look at their front page. I was actually looking for the dungeons and dragons Anthology set and found a direct link to the bundle. Was pretty excited as the only game I have played from it is Demonstone for PS2.

I will probably pick up Might and Magic, Ultima and Defenders Quest sets with it. Played the demo of Defenders Quest and loved it. Indie RPG invasion looks nice but the only game I really want from it is Divinity 2 and maybe Legend of Grimrock.

GOG - 60% off certain Square Enix pc games (http://www.gog.com/promo/square_enix_weekend_promo_130913?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=game_subject&utm_campaign=square_enix_weekend_promo_130913)

Not a huge offer but I am interested in some of these games and thought others might also be.

Out of these I most like the Deus Ex and Thief games. I own the three Thief games but am thinking of buying the Thief Gold as I only have the standard edition which is missing a few extra missions. I have always meant to play Deus Ex but never got around to it. Might take the chance now.

Definitely getting Anachronox. Dincrest has praised the game on multiple occasions which has made me really curious about it.

Stargunner (http://www.gog.com/game/stargunner#reviews=1) is also free at the moment. Not sure if it is going to be a permanent thing or for a limited time only. No idea what it is like but free is free.

Deus Ex    Anachronox.

I snagged these 2 when I saw the sale ad in my inbox this morning.  With the discount between the two, Deus Ex was practically free.

I wish I read that a few days ago when I passed by Walmart.

Bioshock Infinite is also $15 on amazon.ca (360). Also, EOIV at $30 isn't limited to Toronto.

Toys R Us (http://www.toysrus.com/) is offering 20% off most items on their website with promo code FRIENDS20. Of course, most video games are included (There's word this also applies to pre-orders, but I haven't tested that specifically). You'll see an ad for the sale right on the front page.
I did just test a local store pickup order for GTAV and it lowered the price to $51. Guess where I'm going after work??

Another decent selection of RPGs from GOG on a 60% sale lasting until the end of the weekend (http://www.gog.com/promo/rpg_weekend_promo_200913?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=game_subject&utm_campaign=rpg_weekend_promo_200913)

I am guessing most people who would be interested in this also get the emails about sales from GOG. Thought I would mention it though in case there were people like me who have a secondary email address for stuff like this that they do not check daily. Still devastated that I missed Torchlight being free in the summer sale.

I have heard great things about Legend of Grimrock so I might pick it up. I loved Divine Divinity even though it was equal parts cheese and bugs. Think Diablo with humour. Definitely tempted to pick up the other two.

Gog.com newsletter subscribers will already know this, but they are having a good sale on scary/horror PC games this week. Some up to 75% off.

I picked up Alan Wake and Amnesia: The Dark Descent (which I've heard is a real proper scary game) myself.

Yes, but I prefer not to use it anymore. I've had too much trouble with corrupted save files and such.

About the FEAR games, are those the games that are flawed yet still interesting? Kinda like Alpha Protocol?

They will seem really dated at this point. I tried playing Fear 1 3 years ago and it felt like I was playing some quake clone from the 90s

For those of us in Canada, Futureshop is running an insane promotion this weekend only. Limit one per customer per day.

Trade in any current gen game (PS3, 360, WII U) and receive a copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, or Assassin's Creed 4 for PS4 or XBONE.

This includes old sports titles, and other miscellaneous crap you may have lying around!

edit: this is only for current gen, not next gen as i mistakenly posted.

Just got back from best buy, stood in line outside before the store opened for about an hour or so, and traded my copy of NHL 12 for AC4 for PS3.

Sony will give supposedly free updates from PS3 to PS4 for those games.
At least I think I read that somewhere.

EDIT: Nope 10$, still a good deal.

As long as the disc isn't broken, yes.

and it's PS3 or 360 game.
My post above was that you can then update the game to PS4 for 10$ and I think XBONE does it for 20$.
Title: Re: Awesome deals - 2013 version - Save money for that PS4/XBONE

Yeah there were some requirements:

Need to have the jewel case with barcode.

The original article I read indicated that they would give you the next gen version, but it turned out to be the current gen version. It's still a good deal when I upgrade AC4 for $10 to the PS4 version digitally.

And yes, it was any game. I mean you could have traded in those Burger King games from way back when and they would have taken it. I personally traded in NHL 12, my friend traded in UFC 2009. I was thinking of trading in the Bourne Conspiracy but...

Someone traded in the Xbox Live arcade disc from way back when, so you really could trade anything in.

Also, the store I visited said they had enough copies for 560 customers, but I'm hearing reports that they have enough to restock and continue for the rest of the long weekend here.

That being said, I bet if I went on Craigslist right now, I'd find so many of these games for sale haha. Hate the hoarders that ruin it for everyone, and the line cutters that do the same.

Today only. For $30, Amazon has the PS3 and 360 versions of Assassin's Creed IV (http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-IV-Black-Flag-Xbox/dp/B00BMFIXT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386091229&sr=8-1&keywords=assassins+creed+4) (apparently a huge step up from III - which I never bothered to play). I snagged a copy for myself already.

Fallout 1, 2 and tactics are free on gog at the moment. They will probably be gone for good after christmas due to the rights of them finally going to Bethesda. You will still be able to download them as much as you want as long as they are in your collection. They just will not be available to buy.

Deal lasts for the next two days.

Yeah, it tends to happen to GOG with high traffic load. Same thing happened during the insomnia sale. There is like 46 hours left so no rush to get it anyway although they also have a Christmas sale at the moment too.

Sorry for the triple post. I don't know if editing the last post bumps the thread or not. I don't think it does. Wouldn't have done it if the sale lasted longer than today.

The witcher 2 is $4.99 at GOG for today.

https://secure.gog.com/game/the_witcher_2

Also every grouped deals that were available for the winter sale so far are all available today too.

Clciking see all deals at the last available deal makes around six more pop up.

Today they have

The Witcher $1.99
The Witcher 2 $3.99
Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete $2.49
Heroes of Might and Magic II $2.49
Heroes of Might and Magic $2.49
Blackguards $22.49

Both Witcher games and Heroes of Might and Magic III are great fun. I don't know enough about Blackguards to comment on but it is a bit too expensive for me.

Welp, it looks like Etrian Odyssey Untold is on sale in the eshop for $19.99 (will have to check and see if this is for Canada too when I get home) but that I guess settles it. Probably end up snagging EO III from Amazon then.

PSN is also having a PSP sale for $4.99 they include, but not limited to:

Class of Heroes
Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
Gugnir
Knights in the Nightmare
Riviera: The Promised Land
Yggrda Union
SMT Persona
SMT Persona 2 Innocent Sin
SMT Persona 3 Portable
Hexyz Force

Man, and here I was thinking I was going to save money....

FFXIII LR is also on sale for $24.99

I don't know, I found Hexyz Force to be extremely generic and forgettable.  If I were going to cut something from that list that's probably what I would choose.

Watched some quick video reviews, I can't really decide what to cut. I'm not so sure I'm so sold on the "smash treasure chests" and time limits that are presented by Gungnir. I might have to think a bit on that one.

SMT Persona 3 Portable now purchased, even though I have it for PSP (Kim never really liked playing games on PSP, she LOVES the Vita)...so, guess I'll get my Vita back in a couple mos when Little Lady finishes it...again (she did finish it on PS2 way back), lol

I went to download the Mass Effect Trilogy, but it kept telling me that I don't have enough memory. What the hell? How much freaking memory IS all three games, anyway? I have a 120GB drive and it's always been fine. I deleted a few things, and still ran short by a long shot. How do you check how much memory you have left on your hard drive?
Several others are tempting, but the games are too darn long.

Go to System Settings > System Information.

Also for some reason the PS3 requires you have almost twice as much memory to download and install the game than you need to actually store it for some reason.

Probably due to compression since it has to expand the downloaded file on your drive as well.

And doesn't the PS3 reserve a ton of that memory for itself anyway? Like 9GB for the OS and another 10GB 'just in case'?

I would assume they are all 10-20 GB a piece. I have them on disc though so I'm not positive. Google search is getting me nowhere, but the Mass Effect 2 installation is 12 GB for reference.

Yeah, I did a quick search and didn't find much. I guess if I want to mess round with the ME games again, I either need a bigger HD or go with the disc version. $15 though. Damn.

Decent playstation network sale for North America this week folks.

Mass effect (all 3 games) and DLC is discounted substantially. I never played em but couldn't help but scoop em up for somewhere down the road. You can nab all 3 games plus most DLC for less than the trilogy costs without any DLC whatsoever.

Alice Madness Returns is only 2.99

There are quite a few other deals but those are what caught my eye.

Haven't played Jade Empire myself, but that certainly won't convince me to install Origin. Especially considering I am a Heretic who does not enjoy Bioware games.

Meanwhile I have played Jade Empire and its one of the few reasons why I still keep my OG XBox plugged in (that said, I really need to BEAT JE at some point down the road).

One of the better WRPG's I've actually played all the way through. It came along before I realized that every last one of them was pretty much the same game.

And I'm in the same boat as Aeolus, the only reason I hold onto my OG Xbox is because Panzer Dragoon Orta (the best rail shooter of the last 15 years) freezes after the 3rd stage on my 360.

I agree, so I merged them just now.

I really like Jade Empire.  Installing Origin is a tough sell, though.

If you were looking for something under $250 before tax, I hate to break this to you, but nobody had it lower than that. All in all, it was a pretty weak post Thanksgiving shopping season this year (I'm still pissed that Target decided to halt their price matching during the weekend; why the fuck do you chucklefucks even bother with the program if you don't offer it on the one time of year that counts; I mean, sure, I understand not offering it on BlackFriday itself, but not even the following Saturday or Sunday, when you could clean up after the initial BF blitz?; but you're never going to win the blitz with those prices and like hell am I going to over to your store to hand over my credit card information to this year's holiday hackers because of your cutting edge cybersecurity system of your manager's Trojan riddled PC locked only with that one password that uses his pet doge's name 'fifi' #firstworldproblems #fucktarget #wtfc #weakend #hackersdelight #overentitledconsumerrage).

Btw, does anyone know a good price for a external Hard Drive? Just something along the lines of a Terabyte will do.

Hey man, some of us might still want a PS4 or XBone (lets be serious, nobody wants an XBone). Also, how do you know that the NX isn't going to turn out to be yet another N64/Wii U?

I'd say switching it to Save money for that Steam Gaming Rig is far more appreciable to the current industry situation, especially for RPGFans.

Oh I forgot to post this here.
Some of you may remember me as pushing Sunrider... well, here's some more!

Quote
Final Call For Sunrider Liberation Day Published Feb 12, 2016

As this is the last month you can pledge before Liberation Day is released, non-backers have until 2/29/16 to pledge to receive Liberation Day on Steam for the exclusive Patreon offer of just a $10 subscription! If you have contributed $10 or more so far and are still a Patreon as of March 1st, then you will receive a Steam code for the game! (Be sure to grab the patch to convert the game into the Denpasoft version from our website too.)

Everyone who pledges after 2/29/16 will NOT receive Liberation Day under the Patreon only offer and will have to buy the game off Steam or Denpasoft.

https://www.patreon.com/loveinspace

I don't know what the full price for the game will be but 10$ sounds like a pretty good deal (I wouldn't be surprised if the full version is 20$+)

Not really a deal so much as a warning to the frugal gamers here. Sony's jacking the ps+ price up starting september 22, a one year sub will now run 60 buck US and 69.99 CAD. Nothing about europe yet, but I expect news shortly for them too. The 3 month and 1 month prices will be adjusted too, I just didn't care to look them up because they're ripoffs. Grab yourselves another year before the price hike, ladies and gents.

One of the things I hate about Steam is their recommendation "algorithms." Like, unlike Amazon and Netflix, Steam's genuinely makes me angry. Like during the sale I bought Deathsmiles even though bullet hell shmups are among the handful of genres that I hate to love. Sure enough, after 10-20 minutes, I wasn't really enjoying myself and figured I wouldn't really touch it that often.

However, since I did play that 10-20 minutes, Steam is now convinced that I'm obsessed with shmups. Likewise, apparently one of the games in my library has a "Nudity" tag, and I'm not sure which one since I don't play any kind of game like that on Steam (and that's not me being bashful, a couple folks on this forum can vouch for me being pretty open about the games I play), but now my Steam front page is constantly shoving any other game with a nudity tag in my face. So now Steam thinks I'm more of a perv than I am, and that's straight-up insulting.

/end rant.

This isn't a deal, but Amazon currently has the Switch in stock. I've been hearing they're still kind of hard to get (not sure if that's true or not), so get 'em while the gettin' is good.

**EDIT: Available for Prime members only

Amazon currently has a deal that you get a book that costs under $50 free when you sign up for an audible trial through them. I just got the Fire Emblem Awakening artbook through this. There should be a banner on the amazon page of the book that says "Get this book plus 2 others for free". Just remember to cancel the subscription afterwards, or get the 2 free audiobooks then cancel

I'd imagine it's interesting to have an artbook in audio form.

I  can see myself using it, but it is not something I'd go out of my way to use. I am getting it cause it so cheap, at worst  I'll just sell it on Ebay for a profit on a later date. Can't beat  8.69 + shipping or 1.00 +shipping if you refund the game.

edit:  shipping came out to be $7.99 in the US  so that is something to keep in mind.
A little high on shipping, but still a good deal.

Oh, I've had that game installed for a while and just...forgot about it. Maybe I should start it up at some point...

Unfortunately, since I already own the game, I can't get the bundle...unless I convince my brother to buy it?

You can remove games from your steam account.
Follow the steps here and remove the game. That way you can purchase it again.

if your brother doesn't want to buy it, you could make a secondary alt account, and buy it that way. I know many people who have multiple Steam accounts for cards/item farming. Buy it on alt account + refund Icey game = profit. If you are paranoid you could always wait until you received the Steam Link in the mail and then ask for a refund on Icey.
edit: Turns out Annubis's suggestion is the easiest way as it dose not truly remove the game from your account, and you can just restore it after you  get a refund from the Icey that comes in the bundle.

Brother already agreed to do it. We share games anyways, but he might like it...though, I forgot to point out the Dawn of War III free weekend...I want someone else to try that with...

For the most part I am feeling really underwhelmed with this  Steam Halloween sale. A lot of the titles I really want to buy are either not on sale, or not close to their  lowest price point. That said I will probably buy a lot of stuff ...because I cant help myself.

Ended up buying a bunch of crap. The only thing of real note was the Guilty Gear Xrd - Revelator (+DLC Characters) + REV 2 All-in-One pack.

And yet another title change.
I should technically keep the "Switch" part... but I dunno, I feel like leaving the same item for 2 years isn't fair.

HTC Vive (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Vive) - probably the most well-reviewed virtual reality headset. It typically costs about $600 for the base version. They recently announced a new model as well.
