I don't know what these are.

Am I being denied a world I've never known?

Nallo returns and asks for the past. I respond.

Not happening, Nallo, (especially not Titania), but I'm still around (I was Blademaster Dezo), Raze (formerly known as Kefka) is still around, Parn's still here, yeah there are still a few of us old heads who haven't left the building yet.

Parn... ran synbios.net? I think. I'm fairly sure it was you. some post/update there about this place coming into existence got me here. A few years with my normal screen name saying I needed admin approval after the last forum wipe kept me from posting much.

Hmm... synbios.net was in 1999 and a google search shows a mailbag submission here from me in 1999. Eh. Somehow the two are related.

And ZshadeZ is still registered but stuck:

"Your registration request at RPGFan Message Boards has been received, ZshadeZ.

The username you registered with was ZshadeZ.

Before you can login and start using the forum, your request will be reviewed and approved. When this happens, you will receive another email from this address."

It's been since the last board reset. These approvals take a while.

I think a fair few of us oldheads had name changes over the years.  And somehow, a fair number of us actually stuck around.  I first posted at RPGFan back in October 1999, and have been here ever since through multiple boardwipes (even a stint where Parn hosted the boards on his server), tons of drama, tons of staff turnover, lots of name changes, some epic moments, and some genuinely memorable characters.  Best soap opera ever!

I'm glad I got to meet a bunch of RPGFan people, some of whom I consider as close friends.

It's hard to believe that I've been posting at RPGFan for about 14 years and come November 2014 I'll have been on staff for 10.

I have been here about as long and refuse to change my name. I miss being an observer and news reporter of the flame wars. Back when Nicole was a big bitch. Hilarious and rightfully so in some circumstances, but you can't deny her bitchiness ;-)

Dagg- Ahh, Sumire.  She was quite a character.  I don't think there's anyone who escaped her vitriol.  Even I got yelled at by her for something or the other.

EDIT: And who remembers Seifer^Almasy/ Takumi^Fujiwara?  That dude was a character, too.  Total gearhead.  I think he and Rob/Bahamut (ex-staffer) would have gotten on quite well.

Sorry to hear that, and surprised it stayed around so long. I'm fairly sure when I got my copy of SFIII I was searching the internets and found your site, which led me here. Back in the days when Gamefaqs was just being born and my biggest source for most gaming help had been phantasy-star.net.

We're getting old. o_O

We're all old.  It's kinda hard to believe, though.  I remember back when I first started posting in '99, I thought I was one of the "old guys" and I was only 21.  Yeah, those of us old-heads who were fresh-faced teenagers back then are either in our 30s or close to it.  I'm not even the oldest on staff, which is interesting.

Perhaps a parallel could be drawn to Persona 2: Innocent Sin vs. Eternal Punishment.  In Innocent Sin, Maya was the oldest.  Yet in Eternal Punishment, she was almost the youngest.

Well, I still think back to what a friend of mine said on my 34th birthday last year: "Neal, you're not 34.  You're 8!"
Title: Re: Bring back RPGBoards
Post by: Tomara on September 15, 2013, 12:49:34 PM
Haha, I was thinking about Eternal Punishment just now! I used to have a tiny crush on Katsuya back when I played that game as teen...

Yep, I'm old too.

Lucca's alive too!

It will be a strange day when we have to start the RPGfan retirement home... but on the other hand, it will be a badass and fun place. I'm imagining plenty of turn-based goodness, since what twitch reflexes we have will be gone; the biggest TVs we can get to soothe our old eyes; lots of pizza/chinese delivery because fuck old people food; and tons of prescription medication because we're old.

Hell, that sounds great. We should get started on this.
Title: Re: Bring back RPGBoards
Post by: Dincrest on September 15, 2013, 06:15:27 PM
Eff prescriptions.  I'll just get stuff from Dice's herbalist (assuming s/he's still alive too.)  What's the worst that's going to happen?  Jail for life?  When I'm that old, life will probably be less than a year and what the hell damage can I do when I'm old, zooted, and just playing vidya games in front of the TV?

Oh, and there had better be plenty of craft beer in this RPGFan retirement home too.  Life's too short to drink swill.  I request good cognac too.  I know it's an "old people" drink, but that stuff is good!  And when I'm actually old, I can drink it without people saying, "what are you, sixty?"  Alize's good stuff.
Title: Re: Bring back RPGBoards
Post by: ZshadeZ on September 15, 2013, 09:11:21 PM
Well of course we'll have cognac and scotch. And e-cigars. We can have herbalists and prescriptions both, we'll be old.

Oh, let's have advocaat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advocaat) too! The thick variaty you eat with a spoon :D

That stuff is so much of an old people drink, I can only get away with having some when it's used as filling for chocolates...

Advocaat sounds yummy.  Anyone here ever have a Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot- equal parts Rumchata and Fireball whiskey?

Man, this RPGFan retirement home sounds awesome.  Can I be 65 already so I can retire in it?

Seifer^Almasy wrote "Seifer's Korner" for my terrible little website ParmProject, which was hosted by Synbios.net.

Speaking of advocaat, for this past holiday break, I made eggnog for the first time (it came out good) and even made "veg-nog" which is a pecan and date based vegan eggnog which was delicious!

Put a shot of cognac in that stuff, and it's a party.

One of my buddies writes a punk fanzine for the Philly punk community and one of the contributing writers did a satirical bit about a "punk retirement home."  It sounded good back when I played in a punk band, but I wanna be in this RPGFan retirement home.

Yes, of course it was on purpose. Im not a native speaker, Baseball is the sport, so I thought to refer to the ball, you would say baseball ball. I was also touching on that movie trope where kids always break the neighbours windows while playing baseball.

Hah.  I had a random itch to browse the forums today, so I decided to register a nick.

I used to post as Phoenix's Rage from around the 1997 towards 2004 period.  RPGfan was the one website that didn't circle jerk over Final Fantasy, and had great coverage of the niche titles. I also really miss those RPGBoard days.  I was very active in the IRC chat as well.  Heh, I remember someone made a cool fan-art of all the regulars.

Some time around the mid-2000's, the board was wiped and someone took my username and posed as me.  I had been inactive for a few years, so I had no idea. I contacted Hidoshi (?) the board admin, but he gave me a huge attitude. In addition, a) I didn't recognize the user-base anymore; b) I was busy with "real-life"; c) and the internet had evolved to a point where RPGFan wasn't as unique of a place anymore in my heart.  It's great to see some old names are still around!

Hah.  Seifer was a very immature kid. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the guy posing as me.  I remember there was also one guy in the chat that was a complete Falcom fanboy and dealt pirated games.  I remember Titania too.  I think her schitck was that she was a girl and acted cute in chat?

That would be Kadamose.  He was the guy who first hacked LunarNet back before it became RPGFan, IIRC.

It's crazy thinking how that was about half my lifetime ago.  I was a weird kid back then.

Titania was... different.  She kind of disappeared entirely after exposing her blatant plagiarism.  Wonder if she still hates my guts to this day.

Nallo made the fan art of all of us staffers. I was ForeverZero/Schala/kanariya/I forget what else back then.

Titania was interesting. She met a guy in another IRC and kinda disappeared after that. We had a weird acquaintance-ship. She'd act like my BFF one day and totally aloof the next. The cute girl schtick was definitely much.

PR's back!  Family reunion!

Hah. Not quite. Don't have my old name! Someone delete it so I can have it back! Although I suppose at my "old" age, I'm much more chilled than where I was as a kid. I remember I used to get into random arguments on the boards for no good reason.

Title: Re: Bring back RPGBoards

A lot of us don't have our old names.  Like I said earlier, Kefka is now Raze, I've long since abandoned dezo penguin/dezo/Blademaster Dezo, Dice used to be Terra, GrimReality used to be LordOfShadows, I remember back when kyuusei was FZ or Schala and Mike was Chronologist, John was KeeperX,

We've evolved like pokeymans, man!

And eff it, we ARE old.  I ain't in denial about my age any more.
