Title: Kirby crochet
Post by: Tomara on September 11, 2008, 09:31:53 AM
I can't draw, I can't write (well, not in English anyway), but I can make hundreds of tiny knots to make this:

(I hope I posted this in the right forum...)

Could probably eBay these for a little bit of money. Not sure if that'd be breaking any copyrights.

Either way, that's pretty cool.

Not bad! You should market these, at least to us.

@ Dincrest, if I could figure out how to best get to your location, I wouldn't mind making one for you.

@ everluck, I'm starting a little crafts club with some other peole who are into crafts and anime/manga/games. We plan to sell our stuff at conventions. Right now I also sell some things online, but it's for the Dutch only.

@ Castnuri, D-rider, Kstar, thanks! I also made some bracelets with space invaders and other classic sprites. I'll show those later.

Can I paypal you money and you mail it to me? hehe...

No, seriously.

Okay, so what would you be willing to pay for something like that?

Post by: Dincrest on September 12, 2008, 08:44:38 PM
Tomara, you've created monsters:P.  I am clueless about crochet but I'd pay a fair price that takes cost of materials and time spent stitching into account.
Title: Re: Look, I'm being creative! Fear the NES bracelets!
Post by: Tomara on September 13, 2008, 03:36:29 AM
There is no crochet or stitching involved, one NES bracelet is made with about 800 tiny knots :) The material isn't every expensive ($1 at most with the current exchange rate), but one bracelet like that takes 3 hours to make. Granted, I can tie knots while I watch TV, but it's not as if I could work any faster if I didn't have the TV on...

Anyway, here are some more bracelets:

And some more traditional ones:

The problem is, the Euro is going very strong right now. If I were to charge you the same as my Dutch customers and make you pay for shipping, one bracelet would cost you 15$ (Canadian). So, I was thinking... maybe we can trade? There are some GBA, DS, PS2 and PSP games I want and games are pretty cheap in the US and Canada. I wouldn't mind giving you 3 (or even more!) bracelets for a game that will cost you less than $20
Title: Re: Look, I'm being creative! Fear the NES bracelets!
Post by: Hidoshi on September 13, 2008, 11:19:36 AM
'ey, that works nicely actually. To be honest though? I'm willing to pay up to $20 for the actual bracelet. :) Up to you though. Lemme know what games you'd like to trade.

Yeah, let me know if you want any EA games lol

I think 15 to 20 is not out of my reach :P

PM me and let me know what you'd like :)

Btw, just to throw it out there: Tim > Mark.

Post by: Tomara on September 13, 2008, 12:17:54 PM
I might as well post the list here :)

GBA
Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2

DS
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Drone Tactics
Lost in Blue 1/2/3
Lost Magic
Magical Star Sign
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Touch Detective

PSP
Brave Story
Jeanne d'Arc
Yggdra Union

PS2
Dawn of Mana
Drakengard 2
Grandia III
Grandia Xtreme
Magic Pengel: The Quest for Color
Rogue Galaxy
Shining Force EXA
Shining Force NEO
Steambot Chronicles
Wild Arms 5

That's what I'm looking for. I'm willing to trade atleast two bracelets of your choice for whatever game from the list. I can make those NES-bracelets, bracelets with pixel art, bracelets with words, traditional bracelet patterns... logos or symbols that aren't overly complex can be used as well. And, I have lots of colours to choose from.

Some examples of bracelets I made for others:

Space Invaders (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/Tomara-chan/100_9860.jpg)
Naruto village symbol thingy (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/Tomara-chan/100_9863.jpg)
Hellgirl symbol (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/Tomara-chan/100_9904.jpg)

Edit:

Finished Dincrest's bracelet:

I got the game Saturday (much faster than I expected!). I went to the postoffice on Friday and they said it could take one week. Oh, since I needed two stamps anyway, I put a small pack of quality liquorice in there, thought you might like it.

It's future wearer probably will. It will either go to a some girl screaming "kawaii!" when seeing it on our table or some big nintendo fan who doesn't mind wearing a pink hat. Because it's Kirby. Kirby is awesome.
Title: Re: Look, I made a Kirby hat!

Did you really need to give me more reasons to "squee" like a hyperactive anime schoolgirl?  Whomever gets that Kirby hat is going to LOOOOOVE it.  And if they don't, they need to be severely bashed in the head with a kanabo.

I've got a Riviera lying around I'd gladly trade for a bracelet with the old Apple Computers logo. The one with the badass rainbow colors, over black. Or, one of the Sega Saturn logo, the sexy silver S wrapping around its deliciously robust blue sphere, coiling upon its succulent, glistening shell, cradling it into an infantalizing caress of chocolate fudge frosting-slathered mind-numbing copulation of...

But yeah I've got the game lying around, don't believe I have a box though. Damn gamestop.
Title: Re: Look, I made a Kirby hat!
Post by: Tomara on July 02, 2009, 10:24:52 AM
I bought the PSP version of Riviera a while back, but if you don't have another game I wouldn't say no to Riviera. The old apple logo would be perfect for something like this. The Saturn logo would be a bit trickier, though.

I'll start working on the Apple pattern.
Title: Re: Look, I made a Kirby hat!

Well I happen to have a sealed, never-opened-or-touched copy of Grandia III as well.
Title: Re: Look, I made a Kirby hat!
Post by: Tomara on July 02, 2009, 12:39:08 PM
That would certainly motivate me. For Grandia III I'd make an Apple and Saturn bracelet, plus something else. I can also make keychains.
Title: Re: Look, I made a Kirby hat!
Post by: Dios GX on July 04, 2009, 07:27:17 PM
Keychains you say. What kind of canvas dimensions do those have? A badass Team Gurren one would be pretty sweet.

http://media.photobucket.com/image/team%20gurren%20logo/lixfate/15107-gurren_lagann-logo-skull-vect.png

Black Canvas, red flames, white shades, would look pretty sexy I think. If the Saturn logo's too annoying just two Apple ones would be coo', 'course, it's all up to you. :P
Title: Re: Look, I made a Kirby hat!
Post by: Tomara on July 05, 2009, 02:34:08 AM
I think I can pull off the Saturn logo. It won't have to many details, but I think it would look cool if I used metallic thread (if I can find any).

For keychains, somewhere around 25x30 is probably best. So the Gurren logo is out. Sprites from old games with 2-3 colours usually work very well.

Post by: Dios GX on July 05, 2009, 03:04:21 AM
How good are you at geometry and want something challenging? Like those Tetris Hearts.

http://militantgeek.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/hearttetris1.gif

I think it'd look cool in little itty-bitty form, though that would take a bit of effort. I'm not sure how your artistic tick really clicks, some  masochistic artists (me) enjoy challenges that make them go crazy with minuet, insignificant details just to say "yeah, I did that."

Case in point:

In the process of making myself a new wallpaper, I spent sixteen hours straight listening solely to the last half of "The Scorning Blade" on kiRite making this one. I ended up finding about fifteen different aerial shots of rivers, canyons, chasms and such to essentially glue onto the petals of each flower. Twisting, bending and transforming them to each petal just to give them a sense of dynamic touch that's not even noticeable to anyone but me. So, if that's your dig, maybe you'll dig this.

If not give me an 8-Bit NES Link. :P
PM me your address or PO box or whatever they've got where you live/want to use, and I'll send off Grandia III on Monday.

Oh, I've knotted worked with splitted embroidery threads, which is pretty insane. I'm surprised I didn't ruin my eyesight. If the design is good enough, I'm willing to try it again. I'll see what I can do with the Tetris Heart.

Example (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/Tomara-chan/100_0080.jpg)

Edit: Tetris Heart first attempt. (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/Tomara-chan/tetrisheart.jpg)

These are managable proportions. I can move the square a bit up to make it look like it has to drop down to complete the heart.

I wanted to make it larger, with more detail, but there is a limit to what my eyes and hands can do.

You shall forever be hailed as The Queen of "The Craft," to make it sound all witchy-sorceress-like. Like that one movie with all the hotass witches.

Well, there is this one horror movie in which a girl named Tamara uses the craft to get revenge, because some people from school killed her or something. It wasn't a very good movie.
Title: Re: Sega Saturn and Apple bracelets
Post by: Dios GX on July 28, 2009, 05:34:12 AM
Okay, so, Tomara's unbelievably badass bracelets got here today while I was blacked out an unconscious, following three subsequent hospital visits that drained my energy, wallet, emotions, and patience for the last week and a half.

Then I think "oh shit, that Saturn bracelet and the Apple one, that's awesome."

Then I open it and I suddenly feel like Link when he got the Hookshot for the first time. Seriously, what in the fuck my head exploded when I saw how many fucking things are in here, how excellent they look, and continuously thought to myself "how in the hell did she even make these? This is some pro stuff."

And then, I felt like a furthered dick since I've been so hammered by hospitals, I couldn't send out this box. So, karma has been a bit of a large role in my life lately, and I think it's time I worked its wonders.

That and now I will have to tack on Rogue Galaxy since that pretty much is every single thing on the list that I could fill in. Though now I have to be fair and honestly, I'd feel like an asshole the rest of my life if I didn't put up a list of something to return your incredulously insane generosity.

So here's a list of what is essentially an entire collection. Pick a few things you want from it.

Anime/DVDs:

.hack//SIGN Complete
Noir - Full box set
Lost Universe Complete
Trigun Complete
Excel Saga Complete
Card Captor Sakura Vol.1-15
X-Japan: Art of Life Live Concert
Ruin Explorers
Galaxy Angel A
Galaxy Angel Z
Tenchi Universe Box set
Hellsing boxset
Samurai Champloo Vol. 1-3
G-Savior: The Movie

Games:

Ar Tonelico 1 Limited Edition (Art book incl.)
Mana Khemia (PS2) Limited Edition, still sealed. Slightly banged up because Best Buy sucks dick.
Phantom Brave
Disgaea (PS2), original, original copy. Weeee
Kingdom Hearts II
Shadow Hearts Covenant
Final Fantasy Tactics A2

Other Stuff:

Original Working Designs Guide for Alundra
DoubleJump Books guide for Phantom Brave

Both of these are those weird little ones with high-res pages and are stiff and sharp-cornered as hell. I dunno why, I just love these things.

Everything else I have left is essentially ultra-niche things like Generator Gawl, Armored Core games, or never-heard-of From Software games for the Xbox.
Title: Re: Sega Saturn and Apple bracelets
Post by: Tomara on July 29, 2009, 02:41:00 AM
You don't have to feel bad, I would have been happy with one game. If you send me too much, you'll make me feel quilty! Think about what that will do to your karma :P

The fat apple bracelet was just a trial version. It didn't come out like I wanted and it would have been hard to sell, so I put it in there as well. Both the Zelda and Pac-man bracelets are types I make quite often, they're not unique or anything, just a nice extra.
Title: Re: Sega Saturn and Apple bracelets

My offer stands quite upright. This is all positive karma right here, spinning and pulsating like the mad electrons of a psychotic atom, assaulting the nuclear-level airwaves with their phat, psychedelic beatz.

In other words pick a few things or I'll just send ultra-rare six-hundred-dollar imports of games nobody even knows exists. Then you'll feel at the paragon of guilt, and I'll probably go to Hell for it or something.

Then what? Yeah, then who's gonna feel the guilt.

I HAVE SPOKEN

Fine. Gimme Kingdom Hearts II. People say I really need to play the Kingdom Hearts games and if I aquire one this way, I may actually put it in the PS2. I'd feel guilty if I didn't.
Title: Re: Sega Saturn and Apple bracelets
Post by: Dios GX on July 29, 2009, 04:07:47 PM
All the world is right! You have made a wonderful choice, as well. Kingdom Hearts II is fuckin' whats up. I can foresee a keyblade bracelet sometime in the future.

I actually, stupidly, have two copies of Kingdom Hearts II, so that works out straight perfecto. Still feel guilty? :P

EDIT: Oh, by the way, I wore the Apple and Pacman ones to a party last night, and I must've had about five people ask me where I got them, wanting to see them, and buy/steal/"obtain" one from me. I was like "uh, I didn't make them. This one badass chick in the netherlands did. They'd be sick at Raves though right?"

Oh christ, the incessant ravers that eventually came and saw what I had, offering to trade like 30 pieces of Kandy for the pacman one. You have fans in America, especially in SoCal's raver scene, lemme tell ya.

I have been looking into that, actually. People have been asking us (= our craftsclub thingy) to make things like socks for iPods and other stuff related to electronics. I have yet to find a product I could actually buy and use, though.
Title: Re: Sega Saturn and Apple bracelets
Post by: Tooker on December 09, 2009, 12:52:33 PM
We were trying to convince a local yarn store to carry this stuff - they could even make patterns and sell them, without too much trouble.  But A) you don't live by me, and B) they totally dropped the ball, and presumably, a kitty carried it off after that.  (Heh - yarn ball joke.)

My wife found a company that actually sells what you'd need.  She says they'll sell in smaller quantities - most places that make it sell amounts like "10 tons" - and that they'll dye it.
http://durafil-conductive.com/product.html

Of course, if you were just looking to make an iPod holder, you wouldn't need that.  Just if you were making something people would touch the screen through.
