Title: Sony to announce "Major Franchise" new HD collection soon
Post by: Lard on April 15, 2011, 01:15:51 PM
http://www.ps3center.net/news/5110/e3-sony-announcing-new-hd-ps2-collection/

The latest edition of PSM3 magazine is stating that we could be seeing a "major PS franchise" getting the HD treatment very soon.
"The current trend of classic games being remade in HD like Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia is set to continue with a major PS franchise set to reveal its new HD glory at E3. No clues. But you'll like it."

We'd all love it to be a Jak & Daxter HD collection, but I have a feeling it will be a 3rd party collection, simply because the rumor mentions two third party franchises at the beginning. Also, the rumor section also had lots of news regarding Capcom this time, so maybe we'll see a Devil May Cry collection announced?

Whatever the case, we're looking forward to all the announcements at E3 2011, which takes place between June 7-9 at the LA Convention Center.

(My theories) Could be.....

Atelier Iris 1-3 (no)
Devil May Cry 1-3
Fatal Frame 1-3
Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII
GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas
Hitman - Silent Assassin, Contracts, Bloodmoney
Jak & Daxter 1-3
Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, Chain Of Memories
Legacy of Kain - Blood Omen 2, LOK 2, LOK Defiance
Medal of Honor - Frontline, Rising Sun, European Assault
Metal Gear Solid 1-3
Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit 2, Most Wanted, Carbon (with online play)
Onimusha 1-3 (but what about 4?)
Shadow Hearts 1-3 (doubt it)
Shin Megami Tensei - Nocturne + either DDS or Persona 3/4
Silent Hill 2-4
SSX 1-3
Suikoden 3-5 and maybe Tactics?
Tekken - Tag, 4, 5 (I would laugh)
Timesplitters 1-3 (doubt it)
Way of the Samurai - 1, 2, Samurai Western
Wild Arms - 3-5 and maybe Alter code F?
Xenosaga 1-3 (doubt it)

If it's 3rd party I'd guess metal gear or silent hill

FFX-FFX-2-FFXII Collection please.

Or MGS.

There's only a few things it could be, as said it probably is MGS, Devil May Cry or Silent Hill, they're the only 2 big franchises I can think of that would really resell that well.

Some of the names people are throwing around are completely unrealistic.

My guess:

If it's third party either FF or MGS.
If it's first party Jack.

I guess DMC is also an option to raise hype for the reboot.

The only Silent Hill collection that I wanted was the one that Konami released for the PS2. It included all the first four games in the series, it was perfect. Why Konami never release that outside of Japan still gets me annoyed everytime I remember that.

The same for Capcom and their Darkstalkers collection.

:(

My money is on MGS. Some of those titles were on less than 10 bits consoles.
Although personally, I'd want it to be Fatal Frame... that would be so awesome.

COME ON DEVIL MAY CRY.

(MGS wouldn't be bad either.)

It'll probably be like GTA or something. Blah.

Honestly, if it's first party, I see it being Ratchet and Clank rather than Jak.  Jak's been idle for several years now - Ratchet's still pretty popular.

Yeah, I was going to say Ratchet and Clank too.  It seems like a no-brainer it it's first party and there have been rumours about it before.

For a big third party franchise MGS seems like the most likely candidate.

It's not going to be RPGs.

I'm wondering about MGS too, but the issue is with MGS1.

The PS1 version would take a ton of work, since it would look like crap in HD.

They can't use Twin Snakes because it had stuff like a Mario statue on Otacon's desk.

And the GC remake couldn't even use the original's music, so I doubt an HD remake would either.

R&C is about to get its fourth installment on the PS3, I think that remakes of the PS2 games would be overkill.

I loved MGS1 and it blew me away when it came out.

When I got my PS2 I bought MGS2 and then that's when I basically stopped playing videogames for about 5-6 years. So maybe I should play that

MGS2 is excellent; better than MGS1 in my book due to the excellent gameplay. MGS1 has possibly the best story of the MGS saga, but MGS2 far eclipsed it in terms of gameplay and enjoyability. MGS3 is the best overall entry in the series.

The Subsistance version of MGS 3 is easily in the Top 5 best PS2 games.

Jax and Dexter
Sly Cooper
Devil May Cry

are all possibilities imo.  Metal Gear Solid seems like a good choice as well since it's a remake.

SMT or Suikoden could be a wet dream come true, but I don't think it's any of those.  Final Fantasy seems unlikely as well due to the fact that 7 would be the one to be remade if that was ever going to happen.  It's not Tekken since Namco is working on Tekken X Street Fighter and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.  Can't really comment on any of the other choices.

Sly Cooper was one of the first series to get an HD rerelease. I'm playing it right now.

Sly Cooper was already released.
FFX and XII wouldn't be remakes, just rereleases with higher res, completely different situations.

Really?  I missed it when it was released for the PS2, really going to consider picking this up.

Other than prettier graphics, what's the point? It's not like they were obscure or underplayed.  Not to mention, a lot of people just flat out don't like these two games at all so there's not much of a fan favorite thing going for them.  I guess weirder things have happened but I really don't see a reason to do it with PS2 FF games.  There has to be much more profitable use of their time and money.

Huh? FFX had a lot of fans. I'm not sure about FFXII.

It'd be weird to do FFX because to me it's not the graphics that really date the game. It's the terrible dialog and voice acting.

I blame the dialogue more.  Bender DiMaggio is awesome. x)
I do think Yuna's voice is one of the worst things to happen to FF as a whole though; there's something not right about it, she sounds like she doesn't understand the language instead of soft and frail or whatever, worst is it doesn't transfer well to X-2.

Not quite right, while R&C's been way more active Jak had a new game about a year and a half ago for PS2/PSP, and had an appearance in that Heroes on the Move game (even if it was by most accounts cruddy). R&C does have the edge however in that there's a new game out this fall, much like God of War Collection was released as leadup to 3.

And while MGS2 had better gameplay I WAS heavily let down by the fact what seemed like one half of the game up and vanished part way through. Made the game feel a lot smaller as a result, but 3 made up for that. I consider 3 and Peace Walker the two best entries anyway, though 1's the one I'm fondest of.

Random thought: The pre-Modern Warfare Call of Dutys.

I'm still hoping for DMC, though.

Twisted Metal is also a possibility considering that a new game is about to hit the PS3.

Im guessing Ratchet and Clank. It seems perfect for this kind of thing.

I`d love Ratchet & Clank HD collection for one simple reason - it`s emulated horribly in PCSX2. FFX and FFXII run extremely well in HD even on low-end PCs, but not R&C. So, that`s what I`m hoping for.

Not true at all. Both games have a sizable fanbase.

They're Final Fantasy games so of course they're going to have a fanbase with the fanboys.  However they both generally get bashed a lot more than other FF's that aren't 7, mostly because of the ridiculous art.

Indeed, having "Final Fantasy" in the title pretty much guarentees a loyal following of fanboy zealots regardles of quality. Granted, it was earned by several years of solid titles, but theres only so much punishment a brand can take.
