Title: Freakin' Hard Boss!!!
Post by: Klyde Chroma on June 19, 2011, 02:37:33 AM
So I just got involved in Y's Chronicles... I can see why so many people are of the love it or hate it pursuasion....I for one am a big fan already, however I must say.... the boss in the abandoned mines (Y's Chronicles 1) was one of the most "tear your hair out" type bosses I've fought in a game in a long time! Holy-hell man, I NEVER check faqs or guides for fear of spoilers but I had no choice because I thought some glitch was preventing me from hitting the bastard..... After finding out that wasn't the problem, it still took 4 valiant efforts to beat em.... I love walking away from a boss battle feeling like I actually accomplished something worth doing in real life.... Oh how I have yearned for soooo long for this type of straightforward-old-school-gameplay and the ridiculously unbalanced difficulties of old that go along with it :) Reminds me of my youth...

Haha, this remind me of Borgan fight from Lunar 2: Eternal Blue for sega cd.  FREAKing hard boos fight that come out of no where.

I died more at Tales of Vesperia early wolf-boss (at the hill place) more than I did the final boss.  Wild Arms 3's final boss was mental and had some nasty killing requirements for each of it's, something like, 13 forms, one of which would *restart* the battle.

Lunar had pretty solid bosses in general.

Some of Xenogears' bosses were pretty tough, if I recall correctly.

All I have to say is Legend of Legaia....the Delilias.

Yeah, generally past the halfway point most bosses could combo one character on your team for an instant kill, but something about the delilias always made the game seem unfair, forcing you to overlevel for that extra hp boost.

I dont know why, but in all the star oceans, there is a point where the entire universe of the game decides to go up like 20 levels ahead of you. Like in the 3rd one when you first encounter the "angels" they are super beefed up and I had to just let my party die out and take them on by myself until I leveled up like 20 times and then slowly built up my team. The bosses werent that hard but that part of the game almost ruined it for me.

Xenogears had some craazy fights. Any SMT game, pretty much.

Xenosaga III almost lived up to XG's difficulty during some fights. Almost.

I totally second that! Borgan was one of the most difficult trials of my youth!! LoL!! No seriously.... I remember trying to beat him religously each morning before the bus came to pick me up for school some odd 15 years ago.... The memories still haunt me.

Probably one of the worst final bosses ever in my opinion that thing was such a bastard.

Shadow Yukiko (as well as her dungeon) was inexplicably hard unless you did tons of grinding before you fought her, then returned home for healing. Although as a first boss, she's way better than P3's first. I beat that chick by spamming Double Fangs with an Auto-Tarukaja (or whatever the name of the spell is) Berith two or three times.

Better yet... Ruby come out to say Zophar is weaker than Borgan.... And it is the truth probably lol.   Amd yes, Borgan was nerfed seriously for Saturn and psx release.

Speaking of Vay, I'm surprised that RPGFan doesn't have a review for the iPhone version of this game.

That boss made me quit playing the game and move on to Oath in Felghana. I can understand the appeal of challenging bosses, but not the appeal of poorly designed and stupidly cheap bosses. You would think when they remade the game that they would have updated that type of stuff. It's not fun, it's just torture. More power to you if you enjoy torture.

Really?
No one felt like letting him know that Ys has no apostrophe?
I'm surprised~
Also, be sure pronounce it like ees, not wise, yeast, or wy es.

Everything except Alex's desire to be a dragonmaster....and Nash's female gymnast body. Though I admit, having read up on the fights way back for the Sega CD version, we definitely got the easier of the versions. I can't remember a single boss in Lunar 1 or 2 that wasn't easy EXCEPT
Quote
Ghaleon in the first one (not the magic emperor doofus)
[/color]. I played through 2 with no troubles a couple times, hardest fight being the star dragon, and only cuz I forgot healing items and didn't have that one accessory that nerfs elemental damage.

What about that one plant dude in FFXIII? Even after maxxing out stats for Lightning and Hope, it still took me way too many tries.

I'm trying to think which boss gave me the most trouble and I think it would be the final boss of Breath of Fire 2 =/
I've had some though bosses but usually there's a trick to make them easier, like for example the wind/charm boss in P3 which gets destroyed if you farm Narcissus' heart item. BoF2 though... I'm not sure if there's any way of making him any less strong.

Also, DQ3 last boss... but all NES jRPGs were almost impossible to finish.

The boss that gave me the most trouble that I can remember was Miguel from Chrono Cross. Square did a great job making a bitch of a boss look like a complete pushover.

I second this, he was a prick with his glowy lightsaber., and MAIN CHARACTER being a dark element at the time. Goddamnit SE put out a PSP port of chrono cross already!

The one in the Titan's Trials?  I think it's an Ochu and it calls its little friends during the fight.  Yep, I haven't even gone back (yet) and tried to beat him after getting game over a few times.

I needed an Action Replay to pass through this bad boy.

I cleared the Titan's Trials one. I didn't ever clear the one that STARTS with 5 babies on the path up to Titan's Trials. Apparently there's some weapon Lightning has with a 1% chance with each attack of staggering the whole damn group. And you just try and try until you get that opening stagger. I never bothered. I stopped like 5 hunts short of all of them (stupid Adamantoise bullsh%t).

Now I'm really scared. I was talking about the one on Disc 2.

Yes! I have no idea how I beat him. I couldn't make any good strategies, the internet was a t a loss, even Odin didn't help me in the slightest. In the end I won due to sheer luck. And this was a after maxing out Lightning and Hope's stats.

This might help for next time.

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Aster_Protoflorian.  It can change its elemental weakness.. hmm, that's weird.

Anyway, when you get to Gran Pulse, the Death spell frequently works on the Adamantoise family but call Hecontoncheir as the first thing Vanille does.  Make sure she has haste and then spam death.  It will work I'd guess 25% of the time.   So save before you fight them.  Its worth it for the leveling up and spoils.

Hahaha, the Delilas Family boss fight was great in the sense that you have that gimmick where your party is separated fighting 3 1vs1 battles after going through three separate tunnels filled with obstacles, and then having to defeat Koru in 4 turns otherwise you'd be insta-killed.

Let me guess, it was Che Delilas that ticked you off, right? Mostly because Gala sucked giant amounts of butt for the majority of the game compared to Vahn and Noa and Che's  attacks hit the hardest.  It was also irritating that they teased you with a save point but wouldn't let you save until you beat the Delilases, meaning through the tunnels you go if you lose at any point. Eesh, I can  hear it now "GORGEOUS MEGATON PRESS! WHOAH....CLEAR!"

Dude, exactly. Once you beat Che, it was easier (ish), but he just slammed on you like a rotten step father. Once you figure out the pattern it's relatively doable, but if you don't stick to it, you're dead, no questions asked. Gala always was the shitty one in the party, lol.

I third this. it was very hard to keep your entire party alive due to Whitesword and the face your main had a weakness to white elements. Don't even try to bring any characters who innate element is black due to that skill itself.
Though for that boss fight it introduce some needed stragegy against him. Though the later Lynx fight was pretty nasty as well, But the....

Code: [Select]
Dario fight tops them all considering it is the hardest fight in the game which gives you a very strong weapon that makes the later bosses a lot more tolerable.

You have to control her yourself.  I don't think I've ever experienced her using death while not controlling her.
