Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ni No Kuni 2 Revenant Kingdom announced!
« on: Yesterday at 08:50:38 PM »
So, anyone in the US who is looking forward to this, Best Buy just listed the digital preorder in error, at $20.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ni-no-kuni-ii-revenant-kingdom-premium-edition-playstation-4/6201525.p?skuId=6201525

Enjoy.  Not sure how long this error will be up, but it's an absurdly good deal.  Less than half of what you would pay even as an Amazon Prime member.
The Best Buy website notes it as a Season Pass for DLC, I presume.

It depends on the expense involved in porting the game.  If the cost is low enough, then it's probably worth it, especially if the game is a digital only release.

I know I am late to the hype, but MAN am I pumped. Also, thank god it is coming to Xbox One. SEGA really came through for me on this one.
Actually, you should be thanking the Suits at SEGA who made the decision to port the game to the XBox One.  Deities had nothing to do with that very surprising decision.  Clearly they didn't have the Japanese market in mind when they made the decision to release this game on that console considering the XBox One was an utter failure in Japan.

I still find it surprising that they are putting it out on the XBox One, though.  Seriously, I can't imagine gamers purchasing the console so they can play the latest and greatest Japanese developed RPG's.  I see the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch being the primary homes for such games.  Still, I do hope it does well on the console because if it doesn't then other game publishers from Japan will take  its performance commercially into account when deciding whether or not to port to the XBox One.

I fucking hate random battles and I think they should remain in the past where they belong.

I think tutorials can be a real pain in the ass.  A better option would be to provide physical instruction manuals with the physical copies of the games as a handy reference and digital instruction manuals for both digital and physical copies.

Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy 16 (survey)
« on: February 02, 2018, 08:37:25 PM »
It's only a matter of time until the next entry in the series is announced. My survey is, how would you like the next game to me?

MMORPG? (FF11, FF14)
Tranditional/Celtic/Fantasy? (FF1, FF3, FF4, FF9)
Based on reality? (FF8, FF15)
Purely Story-driven? (FF7, FF10, Etc)
Openworld (FF12, FF11, FF14)
Etc.
In regards to the next game in the franchise being an MMO, my answer to that is an emphatic, enthusiastic, energetic FUCK NO!  What I would want in the next Final Fantasy is a return to the fantasy setting (although with relatively realistic character designs, no SD characters)  and return of the navigable world map.  I am more than happy to do without the open world mechanic.  I do want a story with both a strong plot as well as well developed characters.

Beyond that, I'm relatively flexible.  The two big things for me are that the series return to a fantasy setting and that it remain exclusively single player.  The biggest thing, though is that it must absolutely not have any micro transactions.  If the trade off is a higher purchase price, I'm willing to deal with that.

So I just read the article announcing the release of the new translation patch.  I won't lie, a part of the article annoyed me.  The part in particular that I take issue with is the referencing of the original translation as abysmal.  While it certainly wasn't a good effort, to call it abysmal is definitely an exaggeration and one I find inappropriate.

It's merely mediocre, not abysmal.   Moreover, the original voice over work was relatively solid, which mitigated some of the issues with the original translation.  Again, I'm not a fan of the original translation.  I think it was definitely substandard and by all indications, the new localization is a definite improvement.  Still calling it abysmal (when there have been far worse efforts published before) is unfair to NIS America.

General Discussions / Re: Most anticipated JRPG of 2018?

Fuck the haters. Kingdom Hearts 3. Still super psyched about it.

Also Penny Punching Princess

'Cuz it's called Penny Punching Princess.
Isn't this thread about RPG's coming out in 2018?  Kingdom Hearts III is vaporware.  I don't even think it has an announced date.

As for me, my most anticipated title for this year is Ni No Kuni.  If it comes out this year, Dragon Quest XI will be second on my list.  It can be bumped to third if Cold Steel III gets announced for this year.

If NIS America is willing to pay them more money to localize their games, then Falcom will likely not switch.  After all, the market they're concerned about is Japan.  They don't seem to care much for the wider market.

It looks like NISA's efforts to bring this game over to PC is still an epic fail.  I find myself utterly unsurprised.  What does have me concerned is how the game is delayed indefinitely.  That there's no window at all for a release is more than a little ominous.

The PC collector's edition pisses me off.  The thing costs $149.99 and doesn't even come with a physical copy of the game.  If I'm being asked to spend that kind of money on a collector's edition, giving me a code to download a copy as opposed to a physical copy is a massive turn off.  I will definitely not be buying this.  As far as I'm concerned, the collector's edition is a waste of both money and the resources to manufacture it.

...I don't work here...I'm just a forum member, who felt like offering some criticism, since I care about the continued quality of the content on this website.
Yeah.  I just realized it.  I think I mixed your survey icon with a staff icon, which is embarASSing considering I have one myself.  In any case, my bad.

Should you really be posting that analysis publicly?  In any case, I've never played an Assassin's Creed game.  This could be a good introduction to the series, but I don't know.

This is past the embargo date, there is nothing wrong with posting this when reviews are going up. There's so many people keeping an eye on what we post, you don't need to worry about us.
Sorry for the very late reply.  I was asking about Mickeymac92's public criticism of the preview, not the preview itself.  I found it odd that he would publicly critique the content of a fellow staff member.  That was what I was questioning, not the posting of the preview.

In any case, after reading the review of Assasin's Creed: Origins, I find myself less enthused about the game.  The clumsy handling of the RPG elements makes me a lot less interested in the game since I've never been a fan of the franchise.
