Ok guys I could really use some help.
Help me decide on my next job. I got three offers. Please don't bother guessing who is who, I won't answer.
Job 1: Big AAA game developer but at a studio of theirs that has only made mediocre games and had sizeable layoffs after each. Was at first going to be a senior tools developer(making design and art tools), now its build engineer(making the automated program that takes the code and art/design data and makes it into game data). I get to work in a sizable team for once, and I got a good friend there. Downside is, the commute is 2 hours so I'd have to move, and they're going to pay the lowest of the three, and the area is expensive.
Job 2: Former Blizzard guys making a free to play PC/Mobile game for Korea(then the rest of Asia, then the west). They're going for the honest free to play model like league of legends, and I actually played the game on mobile and liked it(OMG a mobile game that I'd play, someone check hell it may be frozen). The pros are I would be the lead tools guy, get some professional unity work, wouldn't have to move, and the team is small and lots of experienced folk. Downsides, its a startup, really getting sick of them going under when I'm in them, they were honest with me about stability(which I admire), also ....mobile.. if this game fails, then it proves it mobile isn't about fun, its about skinner boxes.
Job 3: REALLY big company that wants to get into games, bought a few game studios, this is one of them. The pay is REALLY nice, once again interviewed for tools, but one guy (who isn't in the game team or even on the same hemisphere) didn't like me, so they offered me build engineer with the promise it will turn to tools. Team is small, no one in my age range(mostly veterans), just got bought out, but the company who bought them they're known for aiming big and if they fail to clean shop. In addition they do stack ranking(the bottom 20% of a team even if they're good are punished to whip the other 80% in shape, this is why MS fell behind), and have insane turnover, but this team is super cool. Oh and I'd have to move also(2 hour commute).
Also one other things there's another job I REALLY want from another AAA game dev who wants to maintain two small teams near me, they won't have an opening, until later this year, but they really liked me, I do want to wait for them. Also I'm working with two respectable indies nearby also, both are going to be able to talk full time in a few months.....
Thanks guys.
