Ok sorry i havent posted but my trip was awesome. Tokyo is a marvel. I live in arguably one of the best cities in the USA (but I am no snob I love NYC, LA, and San Diego) in Chicago but jesus it feels like a third rate junk of garbage compared to Tokyo. The food. The cleanliness. The attention to detail in everything they do.... we stayed in an airbnb near the skytree, its a crowded place but it was so quiet! No sirens, no loud people blasting music... and walking down the residential street nobody locked up their bikes! If i left my bike leaning against my apartment in chicago it would be gone before i could say al capone

The sega arcades are bomb.

Also Hong Kong rules. Great food and and striking scenery but it was too hot and that city is like a bigger nyc, it is pretty dirty. Macau is beautiful as well and a great time

Sorry i have been busy but thank you all for the reaponses. I booked a really nice hotel for the night we land in tokyo. I was going to stay at the park hyatt ( hotel in lost in translation) but after taxes and fees it was 600 a night. We have nice air bnbs for tokyo and kyoto. I can tell you how excited i am.

While in Hong Kong we will probably stay with my g/fs sister to help save on money.

In about 2 months we will be spending more than a week in japan. Actually first we will be in hong kong and will bet to tokyo from there. Then its three nights in tokyo then three nights in Kyoto before heading back to tokyo to return to HK.

So besides the usual suggestions for good parks and events, etc I have questions about getting around in Japan.

We are using narita airport. Is that airport hooked up to the main metro/subway line that services the whole city or is it seperate? If i buy a rail pass will it work on the metro as well as the high speed rail between cities?

I know zero japanese but my +1 is fluent in Chinese and can read some of japanese kanji. Will that and the prevalence of English be enough for us to get around?

I loved that Logan was simply about those characters and not some really lame over the top comic book arc. Hell, they dont even explain who The albino is but you get an understanding of his motivations just the same.

Logan is an excellent movie with genuine performances

I'm onto the narrative of arthur gordon pym of nantucket, or nagpn for short. Seems pretty legit so far. I wish Poe wrote more full length stories

Logan is excellent. Fantastic movie.

Recently read man in the high castle and loved it. As with most pkd stuff i've read it was not what I expected at all. It was a really interesting story and the hook that united some of the main characters was truly unique.

About 1/2wAy through Leviathan Wakes and it is doubleplusgood. Holden kind of seems like an idiot though

I'm not going to lie, whenever I see random people who come here from Japan or the Netherlands or something a part of me just wants to shriek and be like "Wait, you are voluntarily coming here?"

I'll openly admit the superiority of many other countries. I think a lot of people get dragged in by the epic Hollywood movies or something... perhaps not realizing that it's pretty much just this tiny 1/2 percent they show the world to cover up for the near 3rd world like atmosphere that everyone else in the country deals with on a daily basis.

I've made many grand claims, but I'll stick to like the idea that of the many things that America does poorly is eat, drink, and sleep. You cannot find more than a handful of Americans capable of sleeping 8-9 straight hours at a time.

Non-existent safety nets, etc, I imagine have something to do with that all.

Yeah what an end to a year rotten with the deaths of so many major celebrities. I'm 34 and it is really strange having people like Carrie Fisher die. It is traggic because she was young (as were a lot of the artists that died recently were) but when you kind of grew up with that stuff it adds another dimension.
