Messages - Legaia

This is very sad news. He was active on Twitter and IG (@baoh) and was a real interesting guy all around. I will have to pick up Paladin's Quest again and give it another round. Anyone here play one or all of the games he worked on?

Hidenori Shibao, the writer and director for Paladinís Quest has passed away at 56 years old this week. He is also credited for the original concept for Legend of Legaia on PlayStation.

Shibao died from illness, with the news spreading on Monday. Apart from Paladinís Quest, he also wrote the sequel, Lennus II: Fuuin no Shito. He will be missed.

I just hope Vega doesn't suck in this game like he does in SF4. He's been my favorite character since SFII.

The gameplay is fun but I really wish the story content wasn't so sparse and told primarily through cassette tapes.

I'm hoping I'll have a lot of fun with Metal Gear Online 3, otherwise I see myself not picking up this game again for a good while once the side ops are done.

Have you played Alundra? Based on your avatar, I'm guessing you're a Zelda fan. Alundra can be a bit confusing to navigate through, but it's still a pretty fun Zelda clone.

ugh, "Zelda clone."

Clone suggests inferiority. Nonsense.

Buy Alundra. Play Alundra. Love Alundra.

Alundra is the best Zelda game.

I'll welcome whatever this remake offers. I'm just glad they're done with the FFXIII universe. Don't know if I could stand any more of it.

I just purchased this game. Was doing well for the first two chapters but chapter 3 took some getting used to. There being no map and little indication of how to proceed through the levels makes it a bit daunting to go through. I'm already concerned about how I'm going to manage health and ammo since you seem to get so little of it.

I've heard that a lot of people rage quit this game. Hopefully I'll be able to get through it without that kind of frustration.

To be honest, I forgot it even existed until you mentioned it.

Haha, I think most people don't remember LOL exists.

Oof.  THis is one of those games which is good...but getting "stronger" meant longer and longer attacks and battles just went on forever.

Yeah they did get long. Would have been nice if there were a 'shorten animation' feature for attacks and summons. I love it all the same though.

That game is among many, many titles in my undocumented back log. I had rented it back when it was new, but couldn't finish it before having to return it... I remember not hating it, so hopefully someday soon I'll come back to it.

You should. It's really fun. There are some good gameplay vids of it on YT too. Because of the flashy battle moves it's one of those RPGs that's also fun to watch.

I got Legend of Legaia at the same time as Final Fantasy VII and actually finished it first because I liked it a little bit more. I can't even remember exactly why, maybe because the world felt a little more cohesive and Final Fantasy VII was a lot of "Look at the awesome shit we made! Sure, it makes no sense, but it's awesome!"?

I played FFVII before LOL and liked it less even though it's considered a better game by pretty much everyone. I loved the battle system and the post-apocalyptic setting was pretty awesome. Plus Seru are like evil Pokemon and that adds a certain appeal.

It's too janky for most to consider top tier, but not janky enough to make it onto my joke list.

Like seriously, the game doesn't have a difficulty curve so much as a series of valleys and peaks (especially if you know what you are doing and get that card at the start of the fucking game).

Speaking of difficulty curve, a big problem that people had with LOL (mainly being that it's a grindfest because of certain bosses being tough and equipment being so expensive) seems to only be present in the US/PAL versions of the game. In the original JP release the enemies and bosses have less defense, which makes them go down quicker, and the enemies killed give you somewhere around 1.5x as much gold and exp after killing them, meaning you can get the best armors and beat all the bosses with almost zero grinding. If they left it with the original's stats it may have been better received slightly.

Strange how they mess with the stats between regions though. The same thing happened with The Legend of Dragoon, except in reverse so that the US/PAL releases were actually easier than the JP release.

Please let us be able to actually fight Maleficent again. Was bummed that we couldn't battle her in KH2 after how great she was to fight in the first game.

There better be a world for Pocahontas...

Same here. I was disappointed that it didn't show up in KH2. Pocahontas is pretty cool and the sound and art direction for the movie was amazing. It would also be a good chance to show Governor Ratcliffe's more sinister and evil side that he didn't really get to show off in the movie.

I wonder if they'll keep the Honeybee Inn scene with Cloud getting violated by a bunch of bears in a bed or hot tub.

Nothing screams "buy me!" from what's been shown so far, and I'm not excited about the Boston location. I'll wait a while before passing judgment though.

No Legend of Legaia on anyone's list?

I am disappointed in all of you.

Just downloaded the remaster from PSN. I've never played the international version of FFX so this is almost like a whole new experience for me. So far everything is great and the remaster does not disappoint. Only issue (aside from not having a skip cutscene option) is that in most cutscenes the background music drowns out the dialogue. A lot of the time it's hard to make out what the characters are saying with the background music playing at the same time, so I have to keep the subtitles on.

I don't see turn-based RPGs ever going back to the popularity they had back in the day, but I'm still going to enjoy my collection of them. I think turn-based games down the line are only going to be made by indie developers or be small scale in general, outside of Pokemon of course.
