So, talked about it with Tooker, and we decided to change the name back to "Whats the haps?" (omitting the apostrophe, but who was anyone kidding if they thought grammar played a part in the title LOL xD )

So, wait did it say 'hacking attempt' because it thought users were aiming for an SQL injection?

You're basically right, yes, but the reason stems from of an out-of-sync database with its codebase (at least in part).

If you wanted to be super pedantic about it, I suppose, you could say it was bitching about it hacking itself? LOL :-D *cough* skynet *cough

Cheers, zergrav

Hello, fellow RPGFan'ers :)

So, you might have noticed some rather wonky behavior with our forums. Firstly, on behalf of RPGFan, I would like to apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused anyone -- all of you are highly-valued members, and we take pride in providing a stable service.

That said, our current Forum setup with our hosting provider is becoming virtually untenable. Just so the community-at-large is aware, the senior staff is convening on this issue as urgently as we can, and we will be resolving this once and for all.

While we traverse some mildly involved technical remediation steps over the coming days  / week, your continued patience with any odd behavior on the forums is sincerely appreciated. Once we're done fixing this issue, I do daresay everyone might come out of the other side quite happy with our solution :)

The gratitude / appreciation is awesome! I <3 you guys :)

@andrew Duly-noted on the front-page working. Thanks for the prompt response

The front page of the site also appears to be broken.

Is this still the case, Andrew? It seems to be in working order to me, as of now.

Thanks much,
  chris

Forums are fixed. We should be good to go with them.

...I actually check the main site regularly. A couple times a day, in fact. But I don't go anywhere outside of this place for gaming news except a Nintendo forum (which I probably won't be going back to) and an...anime forum. Yeah.

What makes you so strongly committed to RPGFan as your gaming news source, if you don't mind me asking?

I like the people here, pure and simple. The relative lack of clickbait helps as well, especially after being on other sites like Pushsquare, which felt more like an opinion blog than a site even pretending to be about Gaming news...

I guess you guys are a little slow on news, but that really doesn't matter to me. I don't need a zillion news articles like Gematsu or Siliconera has...

Wow. Thank you on behalf of RPGFan. I am going to re-post your comment to our editorial staff. They keep it rockin' and that kind of feedback is what helps keep us all going strong.

Thank you for your support and kind words :-)

I'm such a pro.

Talk about late to this topic. Nonetheless, good work Stephen!  =D

I appreciate that the key stats panel is back.  I'm generally the one who approves new forum members, and I often like to check on them after a day or so to make sure they're not spamming it up. (Which would mean I done goofed.)

Like I see that this latest person included Paper Mario: TTYD on their top 10 list, so they're obviously cool. ;)

I'm glad you appreciate it! Although, knowing how prone to errors I can be, I have much of the current site under version control, so luckily I could just grab "the old copy" =D

I try not to make substantive changes to the site without moving "ahead a revision", because the first time don't, I know I will accidentally break the hell out of everything lol xD

I need to vent about work because I feel like I'm about to put my fist through a wall.

Our team's lead business analyst has been lobbying to get a dedicated resource to design the user interface for a few months now. I agree with doing this, because none of us have any real UI design experience. Anyway, we get a UI guy.

1. Prior to this, lead BA was telling me not to spec out certain things because they would have to be decided by the UI resource. I relay this to the client, because I need to explain why certain things either aren't specified and/or are subject to change.

2. Lead BA finds out that the UI guy wants a longer period of time to go through everything so that he can properly and starts complaining that UI guy is only in it for he money. Management gives UI guy about a fourth of the time he was requesting. As a result, UI guy is no longer doing the stuff the lead BA was telling us he was going to do.

3. Lead BA complains about me telling the client that certain things would need to be decided by the UI guy. Lead BA tells me not to blame him when I tell him that I was just repeating what he said.

4. UI guy offers a number of suggestions. Lead BA shoots all of them down.

4.a. UI guy tells lead BA that he can't work if lead BA keeps shooting down all of his ideas. Lead BA responds by laughing.

4.b. UI guy and graphic designer have a meeting where they talk about what they want to do. Lead BA spends the entire meeting playing with a coaster.

5. UI guy is working with a graphics designer. Lead BA keeps describing her role as "just applying color to the UI wireframes."

6. Lead BA makes suggestions that require him to do some additional work, with regards to estimating or planning or whatever. Lead BA refuses to do any additional work and immediately backpedals from his suggestions when the suggestion of additional work comes up. Lead BA whines about nobody listening to his suggestions.

7. Lead BA can't communicate worth shit. I don't listen to a number of his suggestions because they don't make sense or approach anything resembling grammatical.

8. Lead BA compulsively eats paper and plastic.

Meanwhile I've been having a psychotic break or whatever for most of the day over the prospect of having to deal with this shit when I get back in to work tomorrow.

Holy crap. That sounds ridiculous. Sounds like you work at Red Hat haha xD

Don't you have a PM and Team Manager as well? Or, if it's trying to be a diehard SCRUM shop, where the hell is the Product Owner? Even the SCRUM master?

Did you check the employee handbook for filing anonymous complaints (hopefully your handbook has procedures for that beyond the standard anti-harassment policy.

In any case, that sounds like an untenable nightmare. The BA is a team's "voice of the business". In this case, are you sure they didn't outsource the role to of BA to Dunder Mifflin?  Lol xD

Sorry. I'm too entrenched in this precise type of material non-stop. It's often hard to come up for air, so to speak; my apologies for not properly understanding the scope of your statement. I eg for a free pass on that reply; interesting day, ya know?  ;D

Having seen people like Andrew and Derek compose news stories, it's hard for me buy that we don't offer more accurate news earlier all the time. When Liz posted that ff interview on July 4th or 6th, iirc, we broke news before anyone else, hitting the front page of Reddit and single-handed leg beating out aggregate site traffic for all of the previous month of May.

I don't mean to sound intense, it's just I would not even be here if I didn't think we were a legitimate contender in that space. Our staff never ceases to impress me, and on a personal note, _I_ am actually very much looking forward to supplanting ign and gamespot, to name a couple. I'm of the "go big or go home" school of thought.

Let me just shut up and stop rambling, eh?  xD

My apologies on the second post -- and deleted intermediate post. Honestly, I should have paid much closer attention, but I just realized there is a chance I blasted your information, Starmongoose. I simply backed up the database tables prior to the update, and I just restored them. If you made a change in the interim -- if so, my sincere apologies -- you may have to re-post it.

No forum feature was intended for permanent change. Any disruption to its components should NOT be viewed as "the magic hand in the sky decides my stuff no longer matters". I simply happen to be human; maybe too human ^,^

Please feel free to update the board as you were prior to the change. Information may have been lost, but at most, a link, it seems. Continue using the board features as you normally would, and please PM me if you encounter an issue preventing that ability.
