Brush and Quill / Re: Standalone fantasy novels thread

I agree, I'm a fan of many an epic series but particularly when you pick one up early and have to wait years between books....urgh I'm an impatient soul!

A personal favourite that broadly fits the brief is Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clarke.  A little different but magic is at its core it has a really clever story arc and great setting.

Indeed, great fun.  Crikey that one had some legs, this was somewhat tighter on character control early on though, a bit easier to follow!

Let the dust settle on this and start another...

So how exactly is this not on kickstarter!?

Game Journals / Re: Retro Encounter Podcast Thread

Really looking forward to 2nd episode.  I started another run through of this when the remaster hit PS3 a few months ago and stopped again fairly near the end, I think it'll be the prompt for me to finish it up.

Whilst in the reminiscing tone though I think for me there are two memories that stick out for me with this game.  First whilst earlier games, and notably FF games, pushed the system envelope with production and graphics this was the one for me that really had a wow factor from a wider media perspective - it felt like I was actually playing an anime movie! The second is more about about my gaming journey and I guess this was the point where without any conscious decision I basically decided "yes, I dont really think I'm going to be playing many games that aren't RPGs". Still bought a few beat em ups or sports sims to play with friends but I struggle to remember spending much serious time playing many other game genres on console from around then.

Similar to someone's comments above this brings mixed feelings. On balance I'm more excited than not and I am highly likely to buy it no matter what in some ways but it doesn't come without apprehension.

Surely a FFXII HD to come
