Single-Player RPGs / Re: Persona 5

Oh my God. My high school years were made a misery by a faculty of bullying P.E teachers. One of which was an ex-Olympic medallist who also thought the school was his personal castle. He  was my homeroom teacher/ year tutor for close to 10 years and reminds me so much of Mr. Kamoshida (minus being a rapist, of course, he wasn't quite that bad, but he was an awful chauvinist). He too used to walk around permanently in sports gear with a whistle slung around his neck, and he got treated with a similar amount of reverence from the rest of the teaching staff. Kind of creepy - and well observed if nothing else.

Am I the only one who didn't find the story on the first one that great? I played it last year when it came out on steam. I remember  everyone  saying how good the story was from when it came out on PSP, so when I played it I was expecting something really amazing and it just...wasn't. Just typical JRPG stuff, and not a lot else. (Really, the bit with the private school was the most ridiculous and pointless part of that game. Why would a school hire children (okay, I know they are a bit more then regular kids) from outside to act in their play. It was just... bizarre. Especially principle roles! Anyone that knows anything about school plays know they go the fastest.  I know the Japanese audience loves school settings but really, you've got to have a better reason put one in there then that.)

I will probably play this one, as I didn't hate trails, but with all the trouble poor Xseed had translating it, you've got to wonder if it was really worth it.

The Helper Monkey / Atelier games on PS3
« on: October 09, 2015, 04:36:33 PM »
Hi guys. I got a ps3 3 years ago. Seems a large portion of Jrpgs for this console are from Atelier series. I'd like to start playing them but don't know where to start. Do they have to be playd in a certain order? If not, is there one that stands out from the others that makes a good starting point? I played the first Atelier Iris way back when it was originally released for ps2, didn't like it that much, although I did finish it. I didn't bother with the others. I also played Mana Khemia, and liked that a lot better, but again, didn't get around to the second one. That's why I've been a bit hesitant to play the ps3 games, although my understanding is they are quite different?

Thanks for your advice.
