Okay, then.

Still waiting for the next story missions in Kingdom Hearts Union X.

Finished exploring the dinosaur caves in Romancing SaGa, and have the dinosaur egg. It has a hefty price but I'm not sure I want to part with it yet in case it's necessary for some quest.

Still in Chapter 3 of Toukiden: Kiwami, progressing slowly but surely.

I sort of have interest in The Banner Saga, but I've been too disappointed by several critically-acclaimed games to commit to playing those particular titles. I do like some tactical RPGs such as the Disgaea and Valkyria Chronicles series, though.

I beat Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II (Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei) late last month and liked it despite being slightly grindy. Here's what I'm working on now:

Kingdom Hearts Union X - Still awaiting the next story missions. I hope it wraps up before Kingdom Hearts III comes out.

Romancing SaGa (PlayStation 2) - My first foray into the Romancing trilogy. I chose Claudia as my starting character, and have taken a ship to a field with several caves, which I'm exploring at the moment. Seems to do the open world aspect better than the first frontier game, since not everything's available from the get-go, and it has very strong potential.

Toukiden: Kiwami - Doing quests in Chapter 3. I started having a better time when I discovered that you could use face button commands. Definitely easy to overlook.

I've heard mixed things about this game and am not sure if I want to play it or not.

Glad the game seems to be good based on the review, but boo to counting off points for Sugiyama's soundtrack.

Still in Chapter 2 of Toukiden Kiwami where I have to solo a boss, which has been a bit difficult, although I'll try again with a maxed-out Mitama.

In Hell in Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II, at the castle surrounded by fire, and have been moving slowly but surely.

The Aladdin subquest in Kingom Hearts Union X seems over, and I've just been occasionally doing raids.

I always wished that other rpgs would take grandia's battle system and refine/push it forward. I always loved it.
I think Atelier Iris 2 and Child of Light did Grandia-esque battle systems well.

I also hope in the first Grandia they make the compass more useful (like in Grandia II), since I found it easy to get lost in dungeons at times, and to forget whether the compass was pointing forward or backward. Maybe ditch the limited inventory too. It's okay to limit the number items characters can bring into battle, so long as they don't force you to choose between what to keep and dispose of (like the Dragon Quest games with a sack into which to put excess items).

Cool, I'll probably get these.

Speaking of catch rates in Pokemon, I'd like it if games eased up on elements of randomization. Say you have a 1/10 chance of getting a certain item or catching a Pokemon. Typically, each time you try to catch a Pokemon or kill an enemy for want of an item, your chance each time is still 1/10, and doesn't get any better. RPGs could implement a type of counter system that activates, for instance, on your tenth kill of a specific enemy or attempt to catch a Pokemon if your prior attempts have been unsuccessful, where you're guaranteed a catch or item, in which case the counter resets.

Yeah, the original DW also had adjustable text speed and skippable text, so developers of contemporary RPGs that lack them should also be thoroughly disciplined.

The completely half-assed turn order meters in the Xenosaga trilogy. Seriously, what was the (il)logic of that design?

The Sega Genesis never really had good audio quality to begin with. And yeah, having to cheat or use a guide is not an indicator of good design in an RPG.

I also liked how the Kingdom Hearts games had different battle music in each of their worlds.

Combat in the Legaia games was way too slow for my tastes, another thing I can't really stand in turn-based RPGs.
