Multiplayer RPGs / TERA: Fate of Arun Expansion
« on: December 28, 2014, 11:18:29 PM »
Anyone playing?  It's basically a free update, so you might as well try it if you've ever played TERA before.  Or even if you haven't, now is a great time to start due to the ease of getting high-tier equipment.

It adds a region to the game and raises the level cap to 65.

Storywise, it's pretty bad, but not Killian/Kelsaik storyline bad.  The side characters are decent, at least.  But, really, that's not saying much because I'd say the only time TERA had a decent story and interesting lore was the Argon arc, which I admit I'm heavily biased to because I loved the Argons.

There are a few things I didn't really like:
The nerf of old dailies to push into the new.  Totally unneeded.  Especially because the new dailies are heavily, heavily biased against solo play at 65.  Basically, old dailies give less than 5 gold each now.
The removal of half of the dungeons in the game. Including ones they just added last patch.  Why? Why remove so much content?  I hear KTERA re-added the solo dungeon Ghillieglade that was removed as Net Cafe-only, but that's the only one re-added.  This is particularly sad for me because I take pleasure in returning to old-ish dungeons and soloing them for the challenge.
Now the only really solo-challenge dungeon is Sabex Armory. And Baldur's, I guess?

Future updates are adding a Castanic Female/High Elf Female-only class known as the Arcane Engineer, so that might be neat, but otherwise classes at 65 feel a bit unbalanced.  At least Mystic got a few much-needed PvE buffs via glyphs for Raising at 120% Stamina and a defense-down on one of their spells equivalent to Priest's Triple Nemesis.  I'm sure they'll work on this.

Single-Player RPGs / The Atelier Series
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:21:31 PM »
Well, since no one else wanted to make the Escha and Logy thread, I figured we'd have a general Atelier discussion thread.

I have some. . .pretty strong feelings about Escha and Logy that aren't entirely appropriate for an OP, so, anyone else playing? How are you enjoying it?

Single-Player RPGs / The Guided Fate Cross Thesis
« on: March 04, 2014, 08:39:43 AM »
As one might expect from the title, this game is a sequel to The Guided Fate Paradox and a spiritual successor to ZHP.

It's for PS3.

Single-Player RPGs / Magus
« on: June 13, 2013, 04:40:51 AM »
I didn't see a thread, but with all of the bustle of E3, it might have been overlooked.

RPGFan's announcement:
http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2013/1396.html

A partial summary for those too lazy to open the link:
. . .The arrival of a new prisoner called Kinna leads to Magus escaping and learning to control his new powers, known as chroma magic. Chroma magic allows absorption and manipulation of powers from the colors green, red, and purple. Players will be able to direct the evolution of Magus' powers, choosing to specialize in one type of magic or become a jack-of-all-trades.

Siliconera expanded a bit and said that he absorbs powers from the current environment (and also that it's running on the Unreal 3 engine).

I think it sounds interesting, and definitely means that the environment will be a big factor.  That is, if everything works the way the developers plan for it to.

General Games / Hakuoki 3DS being localized
« on: April 26, 2013, 06:14:59 PM »
I wasn't sure if this deserved a new thread, but the old Hakuoki thread hasn't been posted in for more than a year.

According to the link, it's a port of the PSP version, but with added story content.  It's good news for those who haven't played the PSP version, to be certain.

General Games / Aksys is localizing more otome: Sweet Fuse: At Your Side
« on: February 14, 2013, 09:19:32 PM »
Since I know a few of us here really enjoyed Hakuoki, I figure this is good news.

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/02/14/that-romance-game-with-keiji-inafune-in-it-is-coming-to-north-america/

This romance game puts you in the shoes of Saki Inafune, she’s the niece of Mega Man and Soul Sacrifice creator Keiji Inafune. Saki goes to visit her uncle’s theme park because in this world the 46 year old video game creator is a theme park owner. This should be a fun day, but Count Hogstein blows up the Ferris wheel and holds the staff hostage. Saki decides to save her uncle and play in Hogstein’s games with a group of bachelors like Shidou.

Single-Player RPGs / Atelier Ayesha

It's due out in Japan on June 26th. Now that we have some screens and information, I figured it deserved a thread.

I really like the foggy, darker look the field environments have taken.

General Games / Hakuoki - Demon of the Fleeting Blossom
« on: February 11, 2012, 10:29:43 PM »
Since there are quite a few people here who seem to enjoy VNs, I thought it was time for a thread.
For those unaware, Hakuoki is an otome game, or basically a dating sim targeted towards females.  The VN isn't really a "hard" otome, more loose, and has a wider audience than some other VNs in the genre.

It's coming out in a few days.  The Limited Edition comes with a ~70 page artbook and sountrack.

Single-Player RPGs / Crimson Shroud - Matsuno's Newest Game
« on: February 02, 2012, 03:32:14 PM »
We've known about this for a while,  but since I didn't see a thread I thought it best to finally make one.
Crimson Shroud is Matsuno's new 3DS game and is pretty much his take on western tabletop RPGs all the way down to physically rolling the dice.
Matsuno has previously worked on games like Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together and Final Fantasy Tactics.

We also know that Sakimoto is doing the music for the game.
