Single-Player RPGs / Question About ME1 PC, and ME2 PS3
« on: January 26, 2012, 05:49:01 PM »
Hello there. So, I asked about the Mass Effect series a while back, and was going to play Mass Effect 1, and I own it for the PC... but I never actually played it. Now though, I have a PS3, (got it 4 weeks ago,) and while I was at Gamestop today, I saw Mass Effect 2, and decided to pick it up. I also have it for the PC as well, but, this will bring me to my point.

You see, I could just play both ME1 and ME2 on the PC, but there's 2 problems there. One is that my PC can run them, but not all that well, whereas my PS3 could probably run ME2 much better in comparison. The other problem is that Mass Effect 3 is coming out in a bit over a month, and if I just played ME1&2 on the PC, my choices wouldn't carry over to ME3 on my PS3. And that brings me to another problem. ME2-PS3 is supposed to have a comic that summarizes the events of ME1, but I also just have ME1 anyway. The problem is, aside from not running as well as ME2 likely well on my PS3, there doesn't seem to be as much of a point to playing ME1 in that case, because my choices won't carry over to either ME2-PS3, or ME3.

Now, some of you might be quick to point out that ME3 will be getting a PC release as well. However, when it comes to playing the games on my PS3, or on my PC, the PS3 is the much better choice. (Not to mention, I'm not even sure if ME3 will run on my PC at all.) So, I'm going to have to make a decision at some point, but I figured I'd see if I could get some advice first. Should I just read the interactive-comic that comes with ME2-PS3? Or should I just play ME1-PC anyway to get the full story, even though it doesn't run that well and none of my choices will carry over either way?

Single-Player RPGs / Question about the PS2 SMT: DS Titles
« on: June 04, 2011, 09:49:28 PM »
Hello there; don't take this the wrong way, but I'll just get right to the point. Over the summer, I planned to go through Persona 4, Devil Summoner 2, and SMT Nocturne in that order, and I already own them all. I've already started P4, and am over 70 hours in that one, and am enjoying it quite a bit. But then when I started thinking more about game number two on my list, Devil Summoner 2, I started thinking about Devil Summoner 1. So here's the question; is it a good idea to play DS 1 first, or can I just go straight to DS 2? Would I even want to play DS 1, on it's own merits?

Thanks. :D

Single-Player RPGs / Question About Dragon Age II
« on: May 08, 2011, 06:31:36 PM »
So, I was bored, and was busy checking my computer's specs and what-not; and it seems that my computer would be able to run Dragon Age II. So,, in case I was ever interested in picking it up, what's the general opinion of it? Is is better then the first? Worse then it? (And you should know what my opinion of Dragon Age 1 is of course; I liked the characters and the roleplaying aspects, and the world was, while not particularity original, detailed and fairly interesting nonetheless. The killer though, was the combat and the dungeons. Dungeons were long monotonous affairs, that could take *hours*. Part of that though, the length and the monotony, was due to the combat system.

The combat system was drawn out, and haphazard. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it in detail, only that the combat system didn't give any feeling of knowing what you're doing. In comparison, games like Shin Megami Tensei have precise, to-the-point combat, that not only required you to know what you're doing, but also made you *feel* like you both knew, and had to know, what you were doing. It's clear whilst being challenging, detailed without being muddled. DA's combat on the other hand, was a train-wreck; if SMT is a well-oiled machine, then DA is what you get when you throw a wrench into that machine, and then bang the machine with the wrench several times. In sum; the combat wasn't enjoyable, though it went in hand with the long dungeons. Long dungeons aren't all that bad if combat's good though, as various RPG's have shown, but having to plod through such a mess for so long was a real problem.)

So again, how's DA 2? Story, characters, non-combat gameplay, and -- most importantly --, the combat. (And because no-one's answered this for me in my ME thread, is BGII really all that? If you want (a lot) more detail from me, you can check the original thread, but I'm not typing all of that again.)

Single-Player RPGs / Question About Mass Effect
« on: May 01, 2011, 04:14:13 PM »
As the title implies, I have a question about Mass Effect; I'm interested in playing it, but I'd only be able to play the first game. As for why, I don't have a next-gen console because there aren't enough games I'd interested in on either the PS3 or Xbox 360 to justify the purchase. That leaves the PC, but as it is, my PC can only play the original Mass Effect; it doesn't have high enough capabilities to run the second one. So the question is; would I be able to play just the original Mass Effect, and have a complete, satisfactory expereince? Is the 1st game just fine on it's own?
