Single-Player RPGs / Bards Tale IV
« on: July 08, 2015, 05:43:01 AM »
Wow, it's been a long time since I posted here but I thought I'd pop on to raise awareness that the Bards Tale 4 kickstarter is almost finished, fully funded and slated for 2017 release.

Even though this is primarily a JRPG forum I thought I'd flag it up as BT, along with Wizardry, gave many people their first taste of dungeon crawling / blobbering and the likes of SMT and Etrian Odyssey may never have happened without the influence of the series. The original Bards Tale games (not the poor 'reboot' from 10 years ago) were very similar to Etrian Odyssey in both design and philosophy.

People who back the game will also get a bunch of other things thrown in for free so it's worth getting in now if you're interested.

Single-Player RPGs / 3DS vs. Vita - which will be the RPG'ers choice?
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:56:17 AM »
With todays announcement of big price cuts for the 3DS, and the imminent (Sept?) release of the more poweful Sony Vita I'm torn as to which to get. Head to head, the backwards compatible catalogue for both machines is good so I'm thinking more in terms of new games.

If the Vita is more like the PS3 to develop for, will that push RPG developers (other than the really big guns) away because of cost?

Will RPG's really have any use at all for the 3D capabilities of the 3DS?

Usually I'd wait and see but as the Mrs has conceeded to purchase me a new handheld for my birthday I really have to make a choice. Right now it looks like the 'cheaper' 3DS because I don't have an old DS and the backcatalogue of dungeon crawlers like Strange Journey and Etrian Odyssey is a strong but I'm happy to be convinced otherwise...

ADMIT EDIT: Typo fixing.
