Single-Player RPGs / RPGFan Pokémon Tournament
« on: February 05, 2014, 10:11:45 PM »
So with the release of Pokémon Bank I'm going to hold a Pokémon Tournament for the RPGFan forums. I'd have a banner here but I suck at images.

So anyway, rules will be simple: no legendaries, double battles. Players are allowed six Pokémon with two for switch outs between matches (total of eight). Switches may only be used in between match-ups. Matches will be best two out of three. To keep things simple and the playing field level, Pokémon cannot have move tutor abilities from before Gen VI; if you bred a Pokémon (for example, a Hippowdon) in Gen VI that wasn't obtainable in X and Y, that's okay, but you can't have, say, a Hippowdon with Stealth Rock because that's clearly a Gen V transfer. To facilitate this, players should send photos of their eight chosen Pokémon to me via PM clearly displaying the blue Kalos pentagon on their status screen.

Winners will receive a prize based on placement, which is a choice of selecting Pokémon from the following list to be traded to them: Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, Regigigas, Giratina, Cresselia, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Tornadus, Thundurus, Reshiram, Zekrom, Landorus, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect.

First place receives their choice of three Pokémon from the list.
Second place receives their choice of two Pokémon from the list not claimed by first place winner.
Third place receives their choice of one Pokémon from the list not claimed by first and second place winners.
Fourth place receives one of the following Pokémon: Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos.

Some of the Pokémon are shiny, to make it a surprise I'll remain silent on which ones.

Anyway, we'll see how much interest this gathers. Date will be set tentatively for Saturday, February 15, to give people time to breed/train. Happy battling.

Anime, TV, and Movies / The Power is Sony Pictures'!
« on: July 21, 2013, 08:43:52 AM »
The joke has become real: Sony Pictures is making a live-action Captain Planet movie. Go Planet?

I'm playing Final Fantasy I now, and playing normally is weak sauce. Instead I will play as stupidly as I can, for shits and giggles, inspired by Let's Plays I've read. How long I keep this up depends entirely on how long I find this entertaining and if someone gets offended. But for now, let's me our TRUE HEROES AND SAVIOR:

Eusis, the shining knight. Parn, who likes to punch stuff. Dice, the clumsy white mage. Agent D, the squishy Black Mage who thinks he's a warrior.

The party immediately makes a beeline towards Garland, who is in the process of date raping Princess Sarah. Those roofies he got are sure effective.

Faced by his awesome might (and they fact that they are all at half HP, they attempt to flee.

Dice accidentally and clumsily walks into Garland's sword.

Eusis gets his ass handed to him.

Parn attempts to attack with his staff and gets knocked down for his trouble.

Agent D goes mano-a-mano with Garland and comes up lacking.

Faced with the reality of the situation, Agent D wets himself and attempts to flee. The aftermath is not pretty and screenshot has been withheld due to objectionable material.

Time for the second try! All of the characters arrive at Garland's domain with full HP, with the exception of Dice, who tried to pet a wolf and got mauled.

Agent D trades his knife for a staff. His damage output should shoot through the fucking roof.

Well, there are some pretty low roofs out there.

Dice decides that the best time to cure the bite/claw wounds from the wolf are in the middle of battle. Eusis asks why she didn't do this  before entering the castle. Dice responds with a nonsensical mumbling about jellybeans.

And she's still doing more damage than Agent D.

Dice feels sorry for him, and casts protect in between chugging down potions. I think she has a drug problem.

Agent D, tired of being the butt monkey, finally uses his magic. Fortunately the conductivity of Garland's armor multiplies the damage by a lot.

Parn defeats Garland with a low blow, thereby proving that armor is ineffectual when you don't cover the sensitive areas with it.

Saving the princess nets the party a reward of a lute. It takes Eusis all of his willpower not to throw the lute in the princess' face.

It looked boring until the support group. I laughed heartily when I saw that.

General Discussions / The Line Between Creator and Creation

Required reading.

Where is your personal line for the divide between creator and creation? Many people have recommended Ender's Game to me, but I refuse to buy the books because I think Orson Scott Card is a tool. Having read this article, I'm not so sure I'd be able to fully enjoy or bother buying any Dragon Quest game ever again. Some might say that I'm just a moron for involving personal agendas, but I say that personal agendas and opinions make the (wo)man.

General Discussions / 6 Endings worse than ME3

I agreed heartily until I saw the ending for Conduit 2. I lost my shit when the final reveal happened. I think that reveal proves its clear superiority to Mass Effect 3's ending.

The Bazaar / Selling both Japanese PS3 Tales games + preorder bonuses
« on: March 24, 2012, 12:19:26 AM »
Due to registering for my medical exams and such, as well as day-to-day expenses, I've been unloading my games and merchandise (outside of my Suikoden and Mass Effect collection, which I will sell only as a last resort) to pay off my debt. Latest in the unloading are my copies of Tales of Graces f and Tales of Xillia, as well as their respective preorder bonuses. I'll be linking the eBay sale here, but if you want to buy them, please PM me instead of buying off eBay as their seller fees can be a pain in the ass.

Asking price is $159.99, which is negotiable among board members here of good standing.

EDIT - I ended the eBay sale early, thought I'd see if anyone here wanted it instead, and if not I'll put it back up later.

Single-Player RPGs / Tales of the Abyss 3DS
« on: February 19, 2012, 04:12:03 PM »
So, I got this last week on release. It seems to be sold out everywhere. Who nabbed a copy? I'm nearing the end of the game now and will throw out a review in short order.

The technical problems from the PS2 version are mostly gone, with some slowdown still left over, but the gameplay is still as good as before.

I also am digging their minimalist choices in making the boxart. Much better than that photoshop abortion on the PS2 boxart. *shudders*

General Games / Resident Evil: Revelations

The demo is up on Nintendo's marketplace right now. Beware, though, you can only play demos a total of thirty times before they lock you out (WTF?).

Anyway, disregarding e stupid demo limit, the game seems solid. I want to pick it up but $50 for a handheld game is highway robbery. Urgh....

... if you register two select games by January 31. And own an EU 3DS.
