General Games / WiiU
« on: December 27, 2014, 02:06:46 PM »
My husband bought this for Xmas, and we'll definitely buy Mario Kart for it. I am a bit stuck on what else to get sine I am mainly looking forward to Zelda and X for the system.

Looking for: good games to play multi-player with (in the same room, not online)
Do not want: Smashy games... We didn't like previous Smash titles.

Also want: games with story or fun gameplay, no trigger fingers please - we both suck at twitchy games.

General Discussions / Aurian's Dragons
« on: July 12, 2014, 08:21:18 PM »
So I love doing fantasy art, and do a wide array of stuff. Drawing, painting, sculpting, carving, etc...

Lately I have been on a polymer clay kick (kinda fun compared to how finicky real clay can be when you are as detail-oriented as I can be!).
(Yes, I also game, and the dice figures are a hit with the nerd crowd).

Enjoy!

The Helper Monkey / Aurian relents: PS3 games?
« on: June 07, 2014, 03:10:39 PM »
So I bought a PS3 to keep me good until the PS4 gets enough stuff to buy.

What RPGs should I get? (Will accept other types of games if they have a strong narrative and are clumsy player friendly). I am also looking for ones that are NOT on the Xbox (I likely played those already).

With my new PS3, I already bought:
Disgaea D2
Heavy Rain
No Nu Kumi (or however it's spelled...)

(Didn't pick up Disgaea 4 since I'll get that for the Vita anyways)

Want to get Last Of Us, and a Tales Game (not sure which is best... I like a good story and tend to prefer more turn based games)

The Soundroom / Realm Reborn FFXIV Soundtrack
« on: May 13, 2014, 08:45:43 PM »
So... it seems that it is not being sold on CD, but instead you need a blue ray player to listen to it. It doesn't seem to be available on iTunes either. Is there any where I can get the soundtrack in a format I can use? (Either CD or download)

So, trying to find some good non-FF, non-Black Mage works by him... wondering what the best ones are? I loved Last Story's music.

General Games / iOS game suggestions please
« on: August 16, 2013, 11:31:49 PM »
So I am looking for an iOS game I can play - doesn't have to be an RPG but it does have to be compatible with 4th gen touch and does not require online connection.

I enjoyed FF Dimensions, Bejeweled, Ash, AshII (although I got suckered into buying the gold edition to get the other episodes they never made *grr*)

Chaos Rings was ok.... but repetative. Got fed up with grinding in Nameless.

Hate hate hate action games on the iOS. No action games period. Just does not work on a small screen like that!

Suggestions?

The Helper Monkey / Avatar
« on: July 20, 2013, 08:19:47 PM »
Ok, am I just a derp or something? I want to use an avatar image so I tried to change it on my profile.

I have tried both using the URL image option and the upload an image option but neither of them seem to "take"... am I missing something?

Thanks :)

Can't seem to find this info anywhere, but I seem to recal trying the PS version and finding no captioning.

RPGFan: Site / Release dates?
« on: August 23, 2012, 01:52:32 PM »
I am just wondering if the release dates are supposed to be updated or if there is a bug... For me, I see:

Last Updated: 02/01/2012 @ 01:47 AM EST

Recently Released:
Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
Zenonia 4 (iOS)
Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights (3DS)
Chrono Trigger (iOS)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3/Xbox 360/PC)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)

 Upcoming Releases:
Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3/Xbox 360)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (PS3/Xbox 360/PC)
Tales of the Abyss (3DS)
SMT: Devil Survivor 2 (DS)
Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2 (PS3)

I see some newer games in the individual consoles' release date section but not all of them... Also, some old stuff is in there too - that have already been released.

The Soundroom / Mass Effect Soundtracks
« on: May 28, 2012, 04:09:00 PM »
I loved the Mass Effect 3 soundtrack but I found the Mass Effect 2 one rather boring. Is the first soundtrack more like 2 or 3?

General Games / Games that are like RPGs but are not
« on: May 19, 2012, 10:57:08 AM »
So, I normally play nothing but various types of RPGs, and heavily into narrative-driven RPGs (so a lot of JRPGs and WRPGs that are less sandbox and more playing out a narrative like Mass Effect and Dragon Age).

Although not termed an RPG by most, I also enjoyed Assassin's Creed very much, due to the narrative and being able to play out Desmond's and Enzio's roles (the first one wasn't subtitled so I never played it). I enjoyed the first few Silent Hills as well.

I tried Metal Gear but for some reason couldn't really get into it. Maybe unless is futuristic sci-fi, I am not really interested in the military.

So are there any other non-RPGs like A.C. that I might enjoy?

Restrictions:
1) Cannot be on the PS3 (don't have it, don't plan to get one) or PC (my husband is always glued to it)
2) I would prefer a more historical / fantasy setting.
3) I suck at fast games and would prefer something more relaxing than having frantic button mashing

The Soundroom / Best Video Game Soundtracks
« on: December 29, 2011, 03:28:25 PM »
(We have a best soundtrack thread but I wanted one for the soundtrack as a whole rather than individual songs.)

I have a coupon for a discount for some soundtrack CDs but I need to spend enough for two soundtracks to use it. I was thinking of getting the Ar Tonelico soundtrack - I haven't tried that yet. I was hoping to get some suggestions for soundtracks I haven't picked up yet.

Favs: Xenoblade, Nier, Radiant Historia, Xenosaga
Honorable mentions: Last Story, FFXIII, FFVIII, FFX, Catherine, End of Eternity, Crono Cross, Divinity, Persona/SMT soundtracks
Bad for me: FFXII, FF-Type 0, Arc Rise Fantasia, Drammatica, FF:Dirge of Cerberus, large chunks of the Last Story Soundtrack

I should explain a bit.... My hearing is not very good so anything that uses a large orchestra (with lots of brass) just sounds like a blare and blaaaat  to me and not very musical at all. The stuff I liked from my honorable mentions are all slower tracks that did not use a massive array of sound. So I would prefer to stay away from the large orchestral pieces.

Any suggestions? :)
