Single-Player RPGs / Tales of Xillia panel at WonderCon!
« on: March 30, 2013, 03:00:36 PM »
Yesterday, I got the chance to sit in on the Tales of Xillia panel at WonderCon and even meet Hideo Baba! The panel showed off some new footage and even one of the fully voiced skits. (it was about Jude not knowing what Bazongas are. Haha!)

Pros to the panel: The voice actor who plays Jude was there and talked about working for the Tales Of franchise. There was a funny video from the actress who plays Milla, because she couldn't be there. :( I got to see a little bit of extra battle footage and watch the whole opening to the game on a huge screen around a bunch of people that are as big of Tales Of fans as me.

Cons to the panel: They still didn't announce an actual release date like I was hoping they would. The only "surprise" was that they are bringing Tales of Xillia figurines to North America. The panel just wasn't very long. And I didn't win the gift bag raffle which had A LOT of great things!!

All in all, it was completely worth it. I got Hideo's autograph and I even got to film a little interview for the Tales Of YouTube channel! All it did was build my anticipation even more for this game. :)

Single-Player RPGs / Ys: Memories of Celceta...
« on: March 07, 2013, 10:07:58 PM »
I'm kind of surprised this isn't being talked about more. Now, granted, I didn't get into the Ys series until recently with Ys Seven. But after beating that game, it immediately became one of my favorite games to date! And the fact that Ys: Memories of Celceta is made the same way, has me thrilled! This year has been one great announcement after the least in my book. :)

So my question is: Is anyone else as excited for this release as I am? And if you played Ys Seven, how did YOU like it?

RPGFan: Site / Andrew Barker....thank you.

While I agree with most of the Games of the Year, I was very sad to see that Tales of Graces f was no where on that list....until I read the Editors top picks. It made me so happy to see that it was on most of the lists. The Tales Of games are so important to me and it's just nice to see that there are many others that know and love the series. It's the kind of series that I talk about at work...even though none of my co-workers play any games or know anything I'm talking about. So thank you all for that.

And a special thank you to Andrew Barker for making the Number 1 game! *theoretical high-five!*

Now all I need is an exact release date for Xillia so I can request that time off work. :)

Single-Player RPGs / RPG's for the iPad!
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:51:29 PM »
Sooooo, I got an iPad for Christmas! I didn't even know I wanted one until I had it in my hand. And I'm having a blast with it.

The biggest reason I was given this ridiculous gift was because I was VERY upset that I couldn't play Final Fantasy Dimensions. I played a little bit of it on my friend's iPad and really enjoyed it. So as soon as I had my own, I immediately purchased the game. But here's the funny part, it also suggested that I should buy Chaos Rings as I did and I've been hooked. It's a pretty mindless, somewhat easy game. But I'm enjoying the story very much and it's very easy to just pick up and put down. I'm almost done with it so I bought the prequel and the sequel...which means I'll be busy for a while. :)

Which comes to my question: Sure, I have a decent amount to get me started on the iPad RPG's....but what about when I'm done? What else should I get? My iPad is basically becoming a portable gaming system for me, so I would like to make it worth my while.

Single-Player RPGs / If Namco wants my money...
« on: November 06, 2012, 03:12:10 AM »
They will release Tales of Hearts R and Tales of Innocence R here!!

I know that Innocence R didn't do THAT great even in Japan, but I think bringing those games to North America would be a great way for us to experience those Tales Of games that we never got to play. And for those who played the imports, they would get whole new versions of the games with updated graphics, battles and new characters!

...but mostly I just want these games for myself so I can play even MORE Tales Of games. :)

Looks great, right??

Single-Player RPGs / Suikoden 6, Breath of Fire 6, and Wild Arms 6...
« on: September 30, 2012, 01:35:01 AM »
I read this very interesting article about Breath of Fire, Wild Arms and Suikoden and the likely hood or unlikely hood that another installment will ever be made. The article was written about a year and a half ago, and no announcements have been made, so it seems even less likely than before.  But anyway, it got me thinking; Why isn't there more of a demand for these sequels? I mean, a Suikoden spin off is out in Japan right now that I'm sure we'll never see, but that's it.

So, I pose this topic to you all: How badly do you want these sequels? And in what order of importance would you put them in? Keep in mind how times and games have changed in the last 5-7 years--and how the games have changed within the series themselves. (i.e. Wild Arms turning to the hex grid battle system, Breath of Fire V's....interesting choices, and Suikoden's different spin offs)

Here's mine:

Breath of Fire 6: I feel like this series has the most to gain and the most time to make up. I VASTLY did not like Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter. I felt like they took all the wrong steps into a bad direction. If they were to make another sequel, they wouldn't have to change much from the first 4 games, just update them a bit. And they could even keep the same idea of the graphics from before. It would be JRPG gold nowadays!

Wild Arms 6: I have always just loved this series. Even though I didn't exactly LOVE the hex grid battles they became, it wasn't TOO big of a change to get me to stop playing. Plus it has always kept the same themes that I enjoy.

Suikoden 6: The only reason I put this last is because I'm actually somewhat satisfied with this series as it is. I didn't care for number 4, but I feel like they nailed it perfectly with Suikoden 5. So if they left it off on a high note, it wouldn't be terrible. And anything extra would just be a nice treat.

What do you think?

P.S. Here's the article if you'd like to read it yourself. :)

Single-Player RPGs / RPGless at the moment...
« on: September 02, 2012, 10:49:45 PM »
So I just finished Kingdom Hearts 3D, and now I'm at a loss of what to play next.

I had about 40 hours into Valkyria Chronicles 2 but it got a little old for me. I've played pretty much EVERY Tales of game....ever. And those are the sort of games I'm drawn to. I've played and beaten every Final Fantasy, Y's Seven(amazing), Arc Rise Fantasia(fun enough), Trails in the Sky(great story), Magna Carta 2(pretty awesome, actually), all the Pokemon games, all the Star Oceans, all the Xenosagas, all the Suikodens, all the Wild Arms, all the Shadow Hearts....and so on. I've gone back to play older games but as you can imagine, I want to play something new. Haha.

So, knowing that I love games with great characters and good enough stories(I'm all over the map in terms of battle system preferences), what else is there? Is there some great game that I'm missing?

I NEED INPUT!!! :)

Single-Player RPGs / Favorite "Tales of" Game and why?
« on: August 09, 2012, 07:13:28 PM »
I'm quite the "Tales of" fan. As you can see from the picture, the Pigtail girls are my favorite, but it doesn't stop there. I've been playing and enjoying these games since Tales of Destiny on the PSOne. And in my mind, they have continuously gotten better and better.

Earlier this year I got Tales of Graces f. (I literally took time off work the day it came out. haha.) And it quickly became my favorite "Tales" to date. And to prepare for this game coming out, I replayed Tales of Symphonia, Symphonia 2, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Destiny 2/Eternia, Tales of Legndia, and Tales of Vesperia all over again. And all it did was refresh my love of the series.

So what's YOUR favorite Tales game and why?

Graces f became my favorite in place of Abyss because it just put together all the things that make a good Tales Of game. Cheesy, yet fun, story. Amazing characters and development. Incredibly fun battle system with lots of new tricks to acquire. And biggest of all, I ENJOYED playing as ALL the characters. With most Tales Of games, there are a few party members that you just NEED to keep AI. And in others, the main character is the only one worth using. But in Graces f, I flipped around all of them and had a blast doing it.

And now that they've announced Tales of Xillia, my anticipation starts all over again.
