You have given me heart, Ranadiel.  I'm honestly not sure I should even start Cold Steel 2 until 3 has been officially announced.

Nah, don't wait. Cold Steel II is too good of a game to wait to play, and you don't have to worry about a cliffhanger ending like with the first game. You'll want to play III, don't get me wrong, but you won't be like WHY DID YOU END IT THERE?!!!

Isn't Trails of Cold Steel 3 confirmed for PS4 in NA?

To my knowledge, not yet. We know Falcom wants to bring it and other Trails games over, but a localization has not been formally announced.

The big guy you free from a cell is Sten. The old healer lady is Wynne. There wasn't a young healer lady, but there was a younger woman who is part of the church, Leliana (she's a rogue).

And the pirate, Isabela, is in both games, but she's only a party member in DAII.

Soundtrack is crazy good though. I would literally try and steal whomever did the soundtrack from Monolithsoft.

Yasunori Mitsuda, ACE (TOMOri Kudo, CHiCO), Kenji Hiramatsu, Manami Kiyota

I think the words "some" and "here and there" are relevant to the statement. Occasional issues may detract somewhat from a great experience, but they don't necessarily make the experience not great.

Before I get a "but the game isn't great" response, remember that this is Arvis' opinion (with which I tend to agree), and him liking the game doesn't automatically make the sentiment wrong.

Well, it was delayed twice, so that may suggest some issues.

Spoilered that first part, Aeolus, since you're quite literally describing the twist of that chapter and the game is less than a week old.

Yeah, evasion tank Fie is often the way to go for difficult bosses, particularly the Cryptids in CSII.

Whoops. Actually I got that wrong. It's not stat quartz but status quartz that are limited to one per line. So your example with Fie you could do, but the example with Laura you couldn't as you're still limited to only one of a particular level of stat quartz, regardless of lines (you could, however, load her with Attack 1, 2, and 3, on either one line or multiple lines.) Sorry about that confusion, I'll edit my post above.

So am I right in thinking that the "lines" in the ARCUS battle orbments in Cold Steel are completely pointless?

As far as I have been able to tell...yes.

Seriously if they have any effect I still haven't figure it out 2 games in.  Kind of disappointing to be honest.

No, they have a purpose. It's just not the same as in the Trails in the Sky trilogy.

Basically, lines determine max EP and how many different status effect quartz you can equip. Multiple lines means you can have have multiple status quartz. On the flip side, EP bonuses get higher the further into a line you go, so characters like Emma who have only one line will have higher max EP than those who have three.

We've got a thread right here if people want to keep talking about GOTY.

Oh wait, so you've only played the first Mass Effect? Shit, I may have to change my vote. Because as much as I love Cold Steel, a full Mass Effect trilogy playthrough is some seriously good times.

Hmm, okay. So if you had never played Mass Effect, I would have voted for that no question. Because...well, it's Mass Effect. It may be the messiest of the trilogy, but it's still the starting point for an amazing story and cast of characters that will forever be near and dear to my heart. Having said that, I still wanted to vote for it, because...well, it's Mass Effect. I've actually been hankering to do a series replay myself, but dammit my backlog is just too big.

Anyway, I ended up voting for Trails of Cold Steel since you haven't played that yet. There's a caveat, though: it doesn't have to be right after Cold Steel since that might wear you out a little, but at some point later this year, you need to play Cold Steel II. I love the first Cold Steel, but in true Trails fashion it lays the groundwork for the real meat of the story, which is Cold Steel II (and now III but it'll be a while before we get that one). There are some serious "holy shit, that was the most epic thing to ever epic" moments the likes of which I haven't experienced in a good long while.

Question: Have you played any of these games before?

More spoilers, but the gist of this is that this one will be the end of the Trails (likely because its going to become too much trouble to keep up with all the ports and remakes if they go any further).

The end of the Trails of Cold Steel saga, yes. Not the end of Trails in general. They've already said that the overall story is only about 60% complete, so there will be more Trails games.
