Yeah, evasion tank Fie is often the way to go for difficult bosses, particularly the Cryptids in CSII.

Whoops. Actually I got that wrong. It's not stat quartz but status quartz that are limited to one per line. So your example with Fie you could do, but the example with Laura you couldn't as you're still limited to only one of a particular level of stat quartz, regardless of lines (you could, however, load her with Attack 1, 2, and 3, on either one line or multiple lines.) Sorry about that confusion, I'll edit my post above.

So am I right in thinking that the "lines" in the ARCUS battle orbments in Cold Steel are completely pointless?

As far as I have been able to tell...yes.

Seriously if they have any effect I still haven't figure it out 2 games in.  Kind of disappointing to be honest.

No, they have a purpose. It's just not the same as in the Trails in the Sky trilogy.

Basically, lines determine max EP and how many different status effect quartz you can equip. Multiple lines means you can have have multiple status quartz. On the flip side, EP bonuses get higher the further into a line you go, so characters like Emma who have only one line will have higher max EP than those who have three.

We've got a thread right here if people want to keep talking about GOTY.

Oh wait, so you've only played the first Mass Effect? Shit, I may have to change my vote. Because as much as I love Cold Steel, a full Mass Effect trilogy playthrough is some seriously good times.

Hmm, okay. So if you had never played Mass Effect, I would have voted for that no question. Because...well, it's Mass Effect. It may be the messiest of the trilogy, but it's still the starting point for an amazing story and cast of characters that will forever be near and dear to my heart. Having said that, I still wanted to vote for it, because...well, it's Mass Effect. I've actually been hankering to do a series replay myself, but dammit my backlog is just too big.

Anyway, I ended up voting for Trails of Cold Steel since you haven't played that yet. There's a caveat, though: it doesn't have to be right after Cold Steel since that might wear you out a little, but at some point later this year, you need to play Cold Steel II. I love the first Cold Steel, but in true Trails fashion it lays the groundwork for the real meat of the story, which is Cold Steel II (and now III but it'll be a while before we get that one). There are some serious "holy shit, that was the most epic thing to ever epic" moments the likes of which I haven't experienced in a good long while.

Question: Have you played any of these games before?

More spoilers, but the gist of this is that this one will be the end of the Trails (likely because its going to become too much trouble to keep up with all the ports and remakes if they go any further).

The end of the Trails of Cold Steel saga, yes. Not the end of Trails in general. They've already said that the overall story is only about 60% complete, so there will be more Trails games.

Its not even been six months since they announced Sen III and now they're announcing #4. Though it does look and sound like we might be nearing a culmination with this one.

Sen III was announced in December of 2016, so it's been a year actually.

And yes, this will be the final Cold Steel game.

Well it looks like the patch has been delayed until early next year I assume this also means the PC version as well.

From the link:

"On that note, as we want this version to be the definitive release of the title, we will be holding the PC version back to coincide this this release as well."

Why does everyone put Bushi on Ashe? Like, I know I did the same, but I find it really odd that I don't think anyone has put it on someone else.

People like Bushi on Ashe because of her high magic and decent strength stats. Again, because katana damage is calculated based on strength and magic, so she's a good candidate for it.

Having said that, I made Ashe a Knight/Time Battlemage. Originally, I was going to make Basch a KNI/BUS combo, but I felt that Ashe would be a better fit for KNI's white magic than Basch. And since I wanted to use all twelve jobs and be (mostly) lore compliant, that meant Basch stuck with BUS. Ashe winding up with TBM is actually perfect, since that's what she is in Revenant Wings.

Kind of regretting that last one, though, as the Bushi license board makes no sense. Why so much Magic Potency if the only magic ability is Shades of Black? Why Shield Block if she can't equip a shield?

Because katana damage is determined by your strength and magic. Bushi is good on the latter, but not so much on the former, so ideally you want to pair it with a high strength job (like Foebreaker, Knight, Monk, or Uhlan) if you plan on using a katana as your primary weapon.

As for shield block, Bushi can equip the Genji armor that you steal from Gilgamesh, and that includes a shield. Not to mention, you may pair it with a job that has access to shields, like Knight or Foebreaker.

Seriously. The Esper's gimmick wasn't even that hard, you just had to switch between Physical and Magical attacks in what amounts to a damage race as Zodiark flips the fuck out when you get him down into the red. Except that once he flipped out, he overloads the easily exploitable Spell Query and shuts everything Magical down, so already you're in a damage race with two flat tires. Meanwhile he's getting like 12+ hit chains on your team easily and thanks to the 9999 damage cap, you can't put out enough damage fast enough during a single cycle of Palling to drop him. The only ways to beat Zodiark on the PS2 were either to catch him with a Mist Knack chain large enough to drop him before he can ever go into the red, or to be so completely overleveled that you could facetank long enough to make it through two or three cycles of Pallings and win the race on two flat tires. And every time you failed, you had to go all the way back through Henne Mines' Secret Area and its MP deleting, Query locking, Asshat enemies.

You might be interested to know that the damage cap is also no longer a thing in Zodiac Age, so both of your primary issues with this fight should be nonissues now.

Spell queues? Yes, they're gone. That was a limitation of the original version not being able to handle multiple spell effects at one time. PS4 can handle it, so waiting for each spell to cast one by one is a thing of the past.
