I had a listen to the Retro Encounter episode which introduces Deus Ex Human Revolution and was disappointed to be honest.
I have the game but have not played it yet; but I have played the original and the sequel so I know what the Deus games are:They are RPGs.
So I was disappointed that the person leading the podcast seemed to be an FPS gamer and not an RPG gamer.
At least from what he said that was the very strong impression. He expressed indifference to dialogue or story or lore etc. His style was to stroll through the game killing everything that moves. I suppose I expected that the person leading such a podcast would be into RPGs and understand about story etc and not just treat it as a pure shooter.

It reminded me of when Skyrim was released I watched a videocast from Gamespot with Kevin VanOrd (a critic I respect). One of the other Gamespot critics gave his opinion of the game saying how pissed off he was by having to click-through dialogues! What he wanted was just to run between quest pointers killing things. VanOrd was visibly appalled. I was wondering what the hell was he doing on the videocast?

I am probably pissing-off the people involved; and I apologise if so; but just felt quite strongly that in general if you are going to do a retro thing with older RPG games the person leading it should be into RPGs; or at least not be a full-on FPSer.

I find it interesting that you think how someone plays a game would invalidate their opinions to the point that they shouldn't be apart of the podcast and even more intriguing that you think it is possible to play a game wrong. If every person on the podcast played the game the same, had the same gaming backgrounds and possessed the same opinion on the game Retro was covering then I think it would make for a rather boring recording.

The fact the developers included shooting in Deus Ex makes it a feasible way to play the game and therefore a worthwhile addition to the discussion of the game.

I'm debating on whether or not I should buy Rouge Galaxy and Dark Cloud on PS4 since I already have both games on PS2.

I'm in the same boat, but I think I will at least get Rogue Galaxy.

Oh and add another vote here for someone who loathed lost odyssey.  I actually rage quitted that game due to dumb plot and character design choices.  So mistwalker is 0 for 2 for me and I still have blue dragon to try ( and am genuinely interested in giving it a shot).

Great to have somebody else on my side!! Every time I say something bad against Lost Odyssey I feel like the internet is planning to murder me. Also I'm really happy to hear that you are enjoying the podcast.

To whomever was talking about wanting to try Rising Thunder in the most recent episode, I have two alpha keys if you want one.

I would definitely take you up on that offer. Rising Thunder looks fascinating.

Hey, I got mentioned in the most recent episode!

Good music choices in this episode by the way--I can't get enough of the Tactics battle music!

Yep! I remember that either this show or the last one, during the pre-recording I had to leave the room for a moment. When I returned and put my headset on, I believe the other members were talking about how to pronounce marshmallow. I had absoultely no clue why the heck they were talking about that until later when I found it they were talking about you. For a while I thought they were just all talking about marshmallows, like, did I miss something important or a punchline, lol? ;)

And yes, battle music from this game rocks. And this will remain true for our next game as well. ;)

To be fair, I was there for that discussion, and I still had no idea what was going on, haha.

Thats because I almost never make any sense; for some reason everyone lets me keep showing up to the podcast though :p
