This is impressive, Reta. I'm flabbergasted at how knowledgeable you are and the fact that you took the time to link several songs. Great stuff. On a side note, have you read about the crazy English translation troubles of Sora no Kiseki SC? I provided a link to both the Kotaku article and the guy's personal blog about the incident but basically a dude working on translating that game tried to kill himself because there was so much text to deal with and trying to deal with inter-personal business drama. It's a long read but well worth it into understanding the world of translating a game for English audiences.

Well goodness that is a lot of EXCELLENT information, I appreciate this a lot. I've been listening to the Zero no Kiseki OST and thinking about trying to find the Ao no Kiseki and eventually Sen no Kiseki as Rhythm Encounter has played a few excellent songs from their albums but then I ran into this confusing Evolution stuff. Thank you so much!

P.S. Your post recommended both regular and evolution albums, please just tell me it's not a case of needless meddling like the Final Fantasy X HD OST.

I'm aware that The Legend of Heroes Ao no Kiseki and Zero no Kiseki were re-released with the Evolution title attached to signify graphic updates and what not but they also released albums too. How are these albums different from the original music releases? Are they more complete as in FULL albums, are they arranged or remixed by the original composers, or something else? Any help would be appreciated because the googles has not been helpful.

P.S. Yes I realize that I could probably just do a comparison via Youtube by listening to tracks from both but I'm at work and I've already used up most of my break looking up something inconsequential but because of my obsessive behavior, I just REALLY want to know.

Is that one of those game theories, like that one I read about years ago for FF8? The one that states that after disc 1 once the Sorceress impales Squall with an icicle everything after that is a dream/life flashing before ones eyes/heaven or something like that.

FFX-2 was a huge departure from the main series but it had a lot going for it including the music. I'm so glad they re-released the OST (in a better quality format no less). Some of the songs are a little too J-Popish for me but the soundtrack on whole is catchy, complex and just plain fun. I was a fan of the game too although the 100% ending is IMO not the real ending to me personally.

I'm still in the minor opinion that FFXII was a bad soundtrack despite my major love for Hitoshi Sakimoto so having him out for the next installment and Hamauzu in made me happy. Honestly, even though the game has so many people against it, the music kind of makes me want to play the game.

So you CAN switch to the old OST? I did not know that but it makes me more inclined to give the HD remaster a try in the future.

I was hoping there would be a post on this album already so I would have a place to "rant" but alas I have to create one myself. I was expecting it to be great but they honestly George Lucas'd the whole album, songs that were intentionally sparse have become over-produced, songs that had cool rhythms are buried under new instrumentation and now I have no interest in playing the game even though there's all that new content I missed because it was cut in the US version of the game. I know one of the reviewers for this website gave it a glowing review (one of the main reasons I picked it up) but I am needless to say disappointed. Am I alone on this, am I just feeling the FFX nostalgia or does it sound worse to others?

I am seconding this. The OST is so amazing I decided to give the FF13 soundtrack a listen and Hamauzu is becoming one of my new favorites.

The Terranigma OST is great. I haven't heard any Soul Blazer stuff so I can't make any opinions on it. Although I never played Illusion of Gaia much past the intro, if they released the three games as a trilogy on 3DS I would definitely be throwing my money at Nintendo.

I knew about Ys IV in my search for everything Falcom Sound Team last year and I've heard so many people mention Glory of Heracles having fantastic music (I am a huge fan of Yoshitaka Hirota's work on the Shadow Hearts franchise). There were two others I thought of over the weekend that I wish had official releases Concept (DS) and an old adventure game called GROUNSEED. I guess there is a Rare Tracks album or something but there doesn't appear to be an official release.

I've been thinking about and listening to some game rips recently and I thought I would pose a question to the boards. What are your most desired official soundtrack releases? I can think of MANY but here are my top 5:

Mother 2
Mother 3
Fate/Extra
Xenosaga II (Shinji Hosoe's contributions)
Terra Battle
NON RPG: Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

I don't know how I feel about all of the piano tracks being at the end of the album but the variety is what makes this album much stronger than the first (I like electronica so I could be biased). This was probably the most unique VG ost I've heard in a long time.

I get that battle music can get old after you've played the game and been in hundreds of battles but a good tune is a good tune. I've played FFIX many times through and when the regular Boss battle music kicks in, it gets me pumped every time. I'm currently playing Hotline Miami and despite having to repeat Level 4 probably 80 times before I could beat it, the same awesome song kept playing and I love every minute of it (the song, not necessarily the level). For me, I think what loses it is when my imagination about when and where the song occurs in the story goes crazy so I get let down when I find out later after playing the game. Just some food for thoughts.
