I'm celebrating eid so I don't have time for a review ready by Tuesday.

I'll make it quick. Don't buy this game. For the love of everything right in the universe, of which there is very little, don't buy this fucking game. and then consider why the embargo might be the day it releases.

It is as bad as you thought it would be, but worse in every conceivable way. Literally. I was promised nothing and received even less.

I've essentially quit the social Internet on all fronts as it exists today, but felt like I couldn't without leaving this message behind. That's how soul-crushing this game is.

e should clarify this a personal review, not "a review" like, a review for the site, since I don't do that anymore and this is a clear embargo violation

For people like me who might miss it and want to save themselves a headache in Act III:
Go back to the port after finishing the mission with the Pegasus Sisters. They'll be there...not further ahead. Not sure if there's a cut-off point to recruiting them but I had to go back and fight people on the way to get to them when I could have easily taken two steps back after that mission and gotten them immediately. They'll make the assault on the desert fortress further on MUCH easier.
Interesting. I went:

Kliff: Fireball guy
Faye: Bird Pony
Grey: Stick 'em with the pointy end
Tobin: 8 range, for real

Also holy shit this game blows Fates out of the water like 20 minutes in. Everything except the CGI intro is better, imo. Haven't been able to put it down.

I like Dragonsong a little bit more, but man, my boy Uematsu will just walk into the studio and crank out some S-tier tracks for Final Fantasy at the drop of a hat.

Sure, don't rank up Ryuji.

Sounds simple enough. Hope you can find a way to turn it off, though. Unless there's a way to rank him back down...

It's not a solution so to speak, but you could just rank him up and then not use him. I don't think it kicks in if he's not in your active party, as I got him to max rank and it never happened to me (although I also didn't grind, so I was near the average level in most instances, meaning I could be wrong).

Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of Berseria
« on: April 28, 2017, 05:07:04 PM »
I haven't played a Tales game since Vesperia even though I own Graces F I just gave up on the series after hearing some pretty poor stuff. So I picked this up after finishing Persona 5 and damn wow I was not expecting this good of a game. That ending though, ouch right in the feels, it was very bittersweet. Velvet may be my favorite main character for a JRPG in a long, long time, and the cast was fantastic

So after finishing it a few days ago, I decided to watch the new Tales of Zesteria X anime now knowing the two were set in the same world.  I didn't want to play the game since it came before Berseria and never directly reference it but this new anime connects the two and I can't recommend it enough if you loved Berseria. It relates back to Berseria and Velvet a number of times and has two episodes dedicated to the opening of Berseria(it was to promote the game I believe when it originally aired).  I am looking forward to the last episode tomorrow to get some closure for Berseria.

Glad to hear the anime is good, I tend to avoid adaptations like that but I'll throw it into the rotation next to My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, and Atom: The Beginning.

Good taste.^^ Check out Yuki Yuna is a Hero as well. The soundtrack is done by MONACA, Keiichi Okabe's team. In this song you might hear a familar voice...

A few days later and I'm still bummed at
The two gay characters that are just like, offensive stereotypes. They literally chase Ryuji him? Molest him? I dunno, it made me really uncomfortable.

It feels bad than in a game with well-written characters I still have to put up with this shit.

I talked about this on Reddit, mistakenly. I got told to shut up and stop bringing gay politics into video games, and also I'm arrogant for saying Japan is behind when it comes to gay representation. Y'know, the usual from the straight white defenders of glorious Nippon.
that shit was awful. Also awful: how the party is mad that Ann is getting sexualized, followed by a close-up bikini shot of Ann's ass on the beach hours later. This game has some problematic shit in it from completely out of left field and for no reason other than an awful, misguided attempt at "comedy."
Single-Player RPGs / Re: Nier 2 for PS4

Man, this game.

I just got done replaying the first Nier after I got endings A-D - just to see how it holds up. While the gameplay of the first Nier is garbage compared to, well, almost any other game, the characterization was far stronger in the original to me. All of Emil's monologues still make me tear up all these years later.

Also, why the hell isnt anyone talking about...
that Emil secret boss fight and the wrap up of his story??? That whole monologue had me in tears - I went from, alright just one more quest and then I can put this down, to, BAWWWWWWWWWW.

"Isn't that right, Kaine!?" gave me shivers. Emil's VA is great. And that's my favorite version of his theme so far (Despair).
Review is up:

You had me at "Spears were my favorite weapon in the game".  #polearmlove

When you get your first spear, tap the square button a few different times and let it rest. Like, Square Square, Stop. Square Square Square Stop. There's a different resting animation for each combo, and some different combos depending on when you start and stop pressing. This is true for every weapon of the game. There's one where she kicks the spear off her's so GOOD.

You can get it from the Hong Kong PSN for like $55 bucks when you convert currency now as well.

Beat the game (like, beat beat the game) and I can completely recommend it.
