Not if you want to hear advice from some of the most successful new game reporters/game news blogs out there. Blogging continues to take the journalism field by storm. I'm very interested in what Brian Lam has to say on the field, etc.

Besides, I think The Destruction of Black Civilization: Great Issues of a Race From 4500BC to 2000AD. makes up for my other nonfiction choices.

Well, there's a fine line between MGS4 -- which is a system seller -- and Valkyrie Profile. MGS4'll be huge in Japan and big in North America. As much as I adore Valkyrie Profile, it won't ever push systems sales.

But, I do fervently believe Konami is leaving money on the table by not bringing MGS4 to the Xbox 360. I wouldn't count that out as a future possibility, though ('sup Substance/Sustinence?).

Hey, Dtoid, DSFanboy, and Shacknews cited your website concerning the news. That's cool, in my opinion. No reason to get defensive over a joke, friend.

Considering RPG Fan's alexa ranking I don't suspect you guys sweat much over site traffic. Is goooooooood.

All righty. I apologize if I came off as harsh or overly critical. If correspondence with S-E reps turns bust, RPGFan's reliability could be panned. Just lookin' out for ya ;)

Okay, well... despite how thoroughly unreliable (and in disarray) GameSpot is. Why didn't RPGFan cite NP as a source?

How come, then, every other site that mentioned that news story has failed to mention a July release date? Especially since the Nintendo Power issue didn't confirm a NA-release beyond having English screens. No "straight from the horse's mouth".

Why, then, are the likes of Shacknews etc. investigating this?

I don't suppose you could support your FFIV date with a source? I'm by no means calling Chris a liar, but there's been no official confirmation that it's NA-bound, let alone dropping this summer.

Although I'm sure you're enjoying the attention-traffic courtesy of GoNintendo and Destructoid ;)

I am chill. I don't get upset about Internet comments. My point is, and I'm not lumping you into this group, but many gamers -- RPG Fans especially -- tend to think games are made just for them. Cut and tapered to their specific tastes. It's just not the case.

It'd be like getting upset if FFXIII appeared on Xbox 360. For S-E to pass up a multi-console release is silly. It's leaving money on the table. Look what it did for DMC4.

Nintendo DS towers over both system's combined with install base. It's an ideal medium for gamers. RPGs, especially, IMO.

But indeed the things like story, character development and progression is something you only experience while playing a game. Those are the things that matter to me a lot. You don't see that on the screens and movies.

Ever read a book? Heh. They sort of pioneered the whole "narrative" thing. And I don't know what television shows or movies you aren't watching, but I'd say Battlestar Galactica and Supernatural (and a million others) have a whole lot of character development and story progression going on...

a DS game for a "gaiden" game seems fitting, for every point newgameplus mentioned, and for the purpose of money making

That's a stupid thing to say. Creating video games isn't like making a painting or writing a book. Not only is it an investment of time and creativity, but it's also a huge investment in money. These companies don't make games to cater to their "one true fans". Do you think Square-Enix is not trying to capitalize on the Hype Train for FFXIII by bombarding us with spin-offs and continuations and alternate world games and this and that and the other thing? Of course they are.

Leave money out of the equation. It's a given. Game Developers are a business. They aim to make back as much as they invest in a game. Else you wind up with Okami.

Anansi Boys is a good read. I'm a big Neil Gaiman fan.

I'm currently juggling all kinds of books. On the fiction side of the tracks, I've finally completed Book 6/7 of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. I have to take a break in between each book, though, so I'm currently reading the third Takeshi Kovacs novel by Richard K. Morgan, Woken Furies. Kovacs series is a great read if you're into sci-fi/cyberpunk/noir. Like Blade Runner knocked up a notch.

To make myself teh smarts, I'm reading Blogging Heroes by Michael A. Banks. It contains 30 interviews with successful bloggers, including Chris Grant from Joystiq, Brian Lam from Gizmodo, etc.

I'm also reading The Destruction of Black Civilization: Great Issues of a Race From 4500BC to 2000AD.

Valkyrie Profile is a DS game 'cause, uh, why not? VP has always been a niche title, even within the RPG community. Despite PS2's huge install base, Silmeria didn't see much notoriety. With that said, it doesn't seem all that worthwhile for for Square-Enix to make the game for Xbox 360, which only some of the people have (especially in Japan), or the PS3 (which only some of the people have, even still in japan). Then there's Nintendo DS, which is huge in both countries. HUGE.

I don't know about you, but shiny things and glitz and glam only go so far in RPGs for me. I play for story, the adventure, characters... all this can easily be achieved on the DS. Hell, they're tossing a suitable remake of FFIV on there.

Being able to whip out a cool Valkyrie Profile game on the bus, or inbetween classes, or on a break at work... I dunno. That sounds hot to me. Plus the game looks good. Sprites usually always do ;)

Ill give you that. They usually do a pretty good job with localization. I'd just like to see less... quirky RPGs from them and more "serious" games that aren't SMT or DDS or Persona or whatever.

The team at CapCom responsible for Phoenix Wright should be given bigger assignments, IMO. That was some mighty fine localization.

I should clarify, as well. What Masamune just said rings true for me, as well. NO character in-game was characterized well. Jansen simply benefited from having a fantastic voice actor concerned more with delivering lines well than lip-sync.

The whole game is plagued by that "detachment" inherent to poor English localization from a Japanese game. The cultures are so distinct from one another that it requires tremendous amount of work to successfully localize a game. Very rarely do I see that effort put forth, especially since the PS2 era.

I miss Working Designs :(
15  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Atlus announces Arcana Heart, all-female 2D fighter for PS2 on: April 07, 2008, 09:31:54 PM
I love 2-D fighters. A lot. But this game... this is disastrously offensive.

I can see a lot of creepy pedo-doll collecting weirdos drawing all sorts of "not so cool" fan art to this...
