1  Media / Single-Player RPGs / FF:MQ -- Confession Time on: September 04, 2006, 10:55:12 AM
MQ was actually the first RPG I had ever played, my brother brought it over when he lent us his SNES for a week. I never passed it back then, and the style of gameplay was rather new to me. I didn't know what was to become of Phoebe for several years.

When I started downloading ROMs, this was the first game I searched for and passed. It was around the same time I started getting into RPGs entirely, so I went back and started at the beginning.

Just an FYI about the trailer, it's not the actual official teaser. This is taken from snakesonablog.com:

UPDATE (3/17/06 at 5:08pm) ó Iíve gotten more than one phone call today from people at New Line asking me to clarify that this trailer is not the official teaser trailer for the film, it was put online merely for the songwriting contest at Tagworld.  The CG is not representative of how the snakes will look in the final cut.   The OFFICIAL official teaser trailer will apparently be coming out in about a month.  Iíll be out of town for the remainder of the weekend, so updates will be sparse.

Revchu- have you checked out The Minibosses or The NESkimos?  They're "Nintendo-core" bands and IMO both are better than The Advantage Band.  The Minibosses' 10 minute medley of MegaMan 2 is teh pwn.

I've heard the Minibosses, but not the NESkimoes. I think it might be tough to find em around here, though I should probably be looking online...

I bought both of the Advantage albums. Lots of cool rock renditions of old NES themes. The Mega Man and Castlevania themes are well done, same with Metal Gear.

I've always had this slight obsession with the silent protagonists in Chrono Trigger and Terranigma. Chrono and Ark kicked ass.

Ark wasn't silent though. He talked throughout the game.

My memory must be totally screwed up then. I think that's the best sign that I need to replay right away.

New Mogwai. For once here's a band who actually benefits from building up. I think this album would have been a lot better if they just took a little bit more time to get these tracks moving. This must be the shortest Mogwai album so far, it's over in the blink of an eye.

It makes for good iPod tracks though. It can be hard to have Mogwai in there when you're on the bus and think you're listening to 3 minutes of silence or low static...

Iori Yagami motherfuckers.

Cammy from Street Fighter for some reason.

I've always had this slight obsession with the silent protagonists in Chrono Trigger and Terranigma. Chrono and Ark kicked ass.

Also have a soft spot for Locke from FF6.

Hehe, that one's a little trickier...

Hakeem Kae-Kazim -> The Secret Laughter of Women -> Nia Long -> Alfie -> Marisa Tomei -> My Cousin Vinny -> Joe Pesci -> Casino -> Robert De Niro -> The Godfather

whoops, forgot to put a new one:

A few people have made the comment to me that it was nice of SOE to send us one donut for every subscriber they have. The other funny remark I heard was that this is the best product SOE has ever shipped. You guys are mean.

Haha, the best part is there at the bottom :P

Heh, I think we can use Lord of the Rings: RotK a lot ;p

Don Cheadle -> Assassination of Richard Nixon -> Sean Penn -> 21 Grams -> Naomi Watts -> King Kong -> Peter Jackson -> Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Scarlett Johansson -> The Island -> Ewan McGregor -> Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace -> Liam Neeson -> Schindler's List

Hmm, let's try...

Heh, I thought that would be a little tough :)

Paris Hilton -> Raising Helen -> Kate Hudson -> Almost Famous -> Cameron Crowe -> Elizabethtown -> Orlando Bloom -> Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

How about, going with a similar theme...

Even bigger crapfest than Ultraviolet? It doesn't sound like it! As much as I love Milla, that was one of the poorest looking trailers I've seen since Joy Ride. It's built up a 4% rating so far on Rotten Tomatoes, those are big shoes to fill.

Plus, Final Destination 2 is equally regarded as Final Destination 1 and 3, both directed by James Wong. And he directed The One, and Willard. And those were both much worse movies than all three Final Destinations, and especially Cellular, which the Onion AV Club named one of the most underrated movies in 2004. I'm sure if James Wong was responsible, it'd end up worse.

Plus, I find it really funny that David R. Ellis is a former stuntman, he had aspirations to direct, and he was handed two money-making franchises. Laughs all around.
13  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / What the hell. S.O.A.P. on: March 04, 2006, 06:23:04 PM
What the shit is up with the acronym. I hope to hell they don't market this as 'S.O.A.P.' They need to use Snakes on a Plane, or else it's a pointless title.

I love Samuel L. Jackson, even if he's in a terrible movie, he's always the best part. He's right, it sounds hilarious, and I'll see it for sure. And damnit, they better make a damn good DVD of it, because ghetto DVDs of ghetto movies mean no money from me.
14  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Silent Hill - The Movie on: March 04, 2006, 06:19:21 PM
This is by far, the most promising game movie trailer I've seen in years. The game has a tonne of cinematic elements to begin with, so I'm REALLY hoping they translate well.

And for the first time, I think, ever, I'm happy with the director. No Boll or Anderson to fuck things up. I thought Gans' last movie, Brotherhood of the Wolves, was excellent.
15  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / DDO WTF on: March 02, 2006, 10:52:12 AM
EQ2 may be more 'beautiful', but it's significantly soulless. And a constant reminder of how horrible an experience EQ1 was.

WoW maybe fairly easy, but nothing takes the edge off monotony better than actual fun. I might end up playing DDO though, since my tired WoW friends seem to be gravitating towards it for a change.
