You know... I don't think my father would approve of me dating the undead, and you're probably too nice a zombie-pirate for me anyway. Let's just be friends instead.

To your credit blackthirteen, one of my favorite dungeons in EE was the one where I sailed the boat through it.  I think so much more could be done with vehicles in RPGs that isn't fully realized.

Trust me, making the boat wander inside a dungeon was an incredibly hard challenge to me, hearing this may sound stupid to most people but RPG Maker has many bugs that make things complicated sometimes. Each time a vehicle entered a new location the music theme became buggy once the vehicle was disembarked, it messed up all the music tracks. Thus making the boat and airship teleport from the World of Light and the World of Shadow was very tricky too. I had to make extra efforts to make it works.

I can’t confirm it yet, but I’m planning to use a submarine with EE2, but due to this bug I’m unsure if I’ll want to deal with this again…

However, in the future I’m intending to make my own RPG Engine, so I’ll have more freedom :)

One thing I'm looking forward to in the game is the vehicles.  There is a promise of vehicles and I have not had a good airship ride in a long time.  I miss vehicles in modern RPGs.  I remember talking about how I feel about vehicles in this thread: http://www.rpgfan.com/boards/index.php?topic=5159.0

Overworld maps with vehicles miss me a lot too. This feature seems to have become extinct since the PS2...

I didn't mind with FF10, but I would really like to see new gen RPG use this coolness again.

I really hope that Black Sigil will be well received. They worked extremely hard on this game and it's time for them to enjoy their achievement.

Let’s hope Studio Archcraft will earn enough money to feel the courage to work on their next game. It’s also nice of Graffiti to take this financial risk (even if most of the time I disagree with most publisher’s greedy policies).

Once the game is released at Wal Mart I’m going to get a copy + a Nintendo DS.

This game will worth the long waiting.

I know the developer as we used to talk a lot together a while ago and he's very passionate about his game making profession.

I will definitely purchase a NDS only to get my hands on this game.
51  Site Related & More / RPGFan: The Site / Re: Monetize RPGFan by affiliating RPG games? on: May 23, 2009, 10:38:02 PM
I’m sharing this idea publicly because I just wished to offer food for thoughts to the whole team rather than trying to obtain a personal deal with RPGFan, and I hoped that maybe other developers or visitors would share their opinion too, only for the sake of chatting :)

Actually I wasn't referring only to Eternal Eden or trying to self-promote it or looking for an exclusive deal, rather I wished to share a new type of advertising model such promoting future online RPGs via an 'affiliate system'.

Tons of other indie RPGs will be released this year, Aveyond 3 will be out soon, the guy from Aldorlea Games (Laxius Force and 3 Stars of Destiny) is advanced with his new game, Hanako Games just announced a new game this week, and I heard that other RPGs are under way (note that not all of them are made with RPG Maker). RPGFan is already half-built of ads now (at least on the front page), that's why I came up with this idea because I think it could enlarge the possibilities to monetize the website.

A ‘buy now’ button isn’t an obligation, because redirecting toward a developer’s website would automatically allow RPGFan to receive a commission anyway. Under such circumstance the system would visually the same as advertising banners, but could definitely offer more money in RPGFan’s pocket in a long-term basis.

Another nice suggestion would be a special ‘shop’ section. Example, GameDev.net is already using this concept with their books section (and it’s related to their target audience).

I've seen a certain blogger making around 100K a year only by promoting affiliate products. It’s pretty effective when you have mass of visitors.

I just would like to throw a quick suggestion to RPG Fan.

I’ve read that you're trying to monetize your website with advertisement banners. Well, have you also thought of affiliating indie RPG games such Aveyond, 3 Star of Destiny or Eternal Eden? Those old-school RPGs are getting more and more popular and we (indie developers) are starting to build a serious niche market. It's like a new trend.

It may seem insignificant at first consideration, but one of my affiliate partner could easily earn over $3000 USD simply by selling Eternal Eden, and other ones could get between $500-$2000. I honestly believe a website like RPG Fan could get over 15K USD at the end of a year, if not more. The exposure certainly plays a huge role too.

Of course I’m pretty sure you don’t want to transform your magazine into a game portal, but there is certainly a way to make it works in a similar way to ads.

This could be a mutual service to support indie developer and support your website. And it would be targeted toward RPG lovers ( I noticed that you're using some off-topic google ads on your website from time to time). The affiliate system is starting to get dominant on the online market nowadays. The commission range is normally between 20-40%, and most developers usually accept 40% when the exposure is worthy. It's a great way to convert traffic into money (and it's not a bad thing since it's related to RPG games).

It offers food for thoughts, isn’t? :)

(sorry for my bad English)
53  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dark Souls Released! on: May 08, 2009, 11:00:44 PM
I heard only nice things about Dark Souls, it seems that the storyline is very good.

anti-hero main character? Hummm, then it means I have to hurry up and make Western Lords before the concept become too much reccurent... :(

Congratulation for the release Arend! :)

that's wonderful Rapheal! I tried your demo and I liked the storyline so far. I wish you good luck :)
56  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Magna Carta 2 on: April 17, 2009, 11:15:14 AM
I'm usually not picky, but well, let's hope the main character won't be a travesty this time. I really couldn't play Magna Carta because of this.

Honestly I love it very much. I especially love the top section with the big news.

It's perfectly understandable that you try to monetize your website with advertisements. Anyone complaining about this probably don't understand the process of running a website. My only concern is the organization of the ads, it lack of visual balance.

Anyway, I love the new direction with the overall design :)

No April Fool from RPGFan? :(
59  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Final Fantasy IV: The After Years on: March 27, 2009, 01:22:01 PM
Final Fantasy IV is certainly part of my best memories when it concerns a RPG - after all, it was my first one.

I'm quite excited to hear about this new title but at the same time I'm unsure if I'll want to play it. I wouldn't want it to destroy my perception of FFIV, so I'm hoping for everyone that this additional chapter will be measurable to the first one.

60  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Free Indie RPG - Legionwood!! on: March 21, 2009, 02:51:12 AM
Ok.. I am formally, sincerely apologizing for any offense caused by my remarks. I have edited the remark about Eternal Eden out of my post and I will not refer to it again. I sincerely regret putting it there, even in an attempt to try and garner some attention for my freeware game that would not be looked at twice beside a huge comerical game such as EE. But, that's passed now, and I am truly sorry for unintentionally offending people.

Now I urge you to play my game and forget it ever happened. I don't want to let an argument stand in the way of people playing my game.

Hi Dark Gaia, I personally wasn't offended that much, I just found it funny hehe. It's not needed to remove 'Eternal Eden' from your announcement, you can simply alter it to something like 'In the vein of Eternal Eden' or 'if you liked Eternal Eden you should definitely play Legionwood as it was made with the same engine.', etc.

Besides EE is not a huge commercial game, it's still living in the shadow even if it garnered some respect.

You're 16 years old, so don't worry it's normal that you may cause offence with some mistakes. I was arrogant too when I was younger (I'm 31 now), but I learned that staying humble bring better results long-term.

Don't worry about your game, keep working on it and more people will play it and share it with their friends if they love the experience.

From what I've played, Legionwood seemed to be really nice. Too bad it was ultra slow on my PC. So everyone should give it a try and hopefully give you some feedbacks.

(pardon my poor English)
