Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age 3 Thread, Part 2

Not sure why the other thread got locked, but may as well continue talking about the game.

Looked to have been a genuine mistake. Merged now at any rate!

I liked the DLC plenty myself, though I haven't had a strong urge to do the optional part of the Ivory Crown one. It's just too annoying and summons can be hard to come by. Maybe someday, but it's not as if I beat all the optional bosses either.

I really, really want to watch these trailers, but I also want to go in completely blind.

Ugh.  This happens in every Souls game.
Just watch one or two and call it a day. That's not my Souls trailer philosophy, that's my general game philosophy: see enough to know what to expect, don't see so much that I know everything there is to expect.

Okay I played even more LoH and just encountered the stupidest plot twist I've ever seen in a game.

Code: [Select]
So I get to the orphanage and there's this little scene, and all the sudden I'm supposed to believe that Kloe, Clem, Mary, Polly, and Danny just SERENDIPITOUSLY already know each other and always have?

Code: [Select]
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Clem, Marry, Polly, and Danny are all, well, orphans. Of course they know each other, because they live together at the orphanage. And Kloe is good friends with the caretaker of the orphanage, due to having been nearby at the college for so long. I don't really see what's 'lame' here, to be honest.

I think
Code: [Select]
he's mocking the Final Fantasy VIII twist which was how all the cast and the main villain knew each other from an orphanage but forgot due to Guardian Forces eating their brains and the one guy who remembered being an asshole and never bringing it up.

Well what the hell are we supposed to call these?

I'm pretty sure 'no' translates into 'the'>>>'of'>'in the'. I mean, if we really want to get technical, it should be Hero Legend: ____ the Trails.

(My bad on the Nayuta thing though. That really should be Trails in the Nayuta, rather than Nayuta in the Sky, and I think I was running off of another Siliconera mistranslation when I wrote that instead of paying attention to the actual name.)

It's a reasonably simple Japanese name, not something overly long and hard to remember like Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke (was given the unofficial name of Over My Dead Body, now officially Oreshika) or to a lesser extent Zennin Shibō Desu (translated to Virtue's Last Reward by Aksys.) It frustrates me more with Siliconera admittedly because they're supposed to be reporting the news yet they NEVER give the Japanese name and keep using their translations as if they're the official English name, but it's still a Japanese word that comes out as a two-to-four letter word in the Latin alphabet appended to "no Kiseki" and it won't kill anyone to try and actually remember words in a different language than your own.

No word on Ciel...I can't say that I'm surprised but it is extremely disappointing.

Well, for whatever it's worth the offline version was JUST announced, and that probably would make a good cheap downloadable title.

You guys hadn't made a topic of this yet!?

It's out for those who backed, everyone else gets to wait until tomorrow morning/afternoon. Definitely worth it for fans of 8-bit platformers, especially those that had light RPG elements.

Single-Player RPGs / Re: Harvest Drama: Story of Trademarks

Harvest Moon has been billed as an RPG for a long time and there is precedent here... but I also want to make sure people notice this.

Hilariously enough to me, despite this situation Natsume did come out with a better trailer, with XSEED going with the "this is the same series we swear!" type of trailer. Probably do need to spread the word given that it seems XSEED/Marvelous can't be more straightforward for whatever reason. I actually do think in some ways this could be a more ideal situation IF Story of Seasons manages to sell well and get recognized as being of the same series, as this end result is getting us more games, rather than just Natsume being dicks and holding everything up in the courtroom. That was Macross's fate and it sucked.

In general it's frustrating how many Sega games like this are being left behind there. Though here it really does seem to be primarily a problem what platforms they're hitting and how demanding localization is, hopefully with PSP/DS more or less left behind we may actually see stuff like this, but Shining's been effectively abandoned for a long time here.

I think Eusis was just referring to the practice of "derping" up someone's post in a quote to make a point.

This. It can be obnoxious to see, but if he's going to take a condescending approach like that to every opinion he doesn't agree with then we don't need him around.

Personally... yeah, those accents really were overdone. They reigned themselves in better for V but then it came out in the form of puns everywhere instead and seemingly arbitrary name changes so only I think two characters were left alone, and it sounds like a good chunk of them weren't even trying to adapt puns that were in the Japanese game. DQVI handled it best although that was still name change heavy, but it wasn't painfully so. However that was an 8-4 localization so it's less a change in philosophy and more a change in staff.

Sounds like it may just be a barebones update. And if that pans out it makes it all the more baffling that SE felt it was worth cutting Vita out of the loop... and PS3/360 for that matter.

Maybe SE's just lost it entirely at this point.

lol teh axents in dq4-6 suk amirite?

Stop this.

It's gotta to be a mobile game. For starters, 95% of Japanese gamers don't care about consoles but just mobile games and handhelds. So I could see this being at least a Vita game.

He's outright written off doing a mobile game (as in iOS/Android anyway) and there seems to be implications of wanting to do the next game on a console with statements like "looking forward to playing it on the big screen" or whatever. And Vita goes against the philosophy of going for the most active system, though I guess that's probably going to break next time anyway.

I'm starting to wonder if games are wearing out the open world thing.

Zelda was one of THE original open world games, they have a better claim to it than most long running series would.

Nintendo said twice that it was coming this year. Excuse me for believing the game's own publisher. :/

It's a bit late, but after several other games in the past I tend to not believe a game is actually going to come out soon without more substantial information being shown, like characters and the game being named. Now that this is done and they announced 2015 as the release date I'm reasonably confident we'll see it then, whereas "X" always seemed to be shown too early.
